I still think it is, maybe it's because they have a lower budget so they can't be as creative? Sure, the death scenes are graphic as they can be without costing them too much, but aside from that it's just got an eerie vibe at most.

It seems a lot milder than those. Overall it's got an eerie vibe to it but not much more, although the death scenes might be a bit too much for you
Since the episodes are short I'd suggest trying the first episode out and seeing if it's something you would like to keep watching!

Currently at episode 7 and I'm sooo confused about the complete change in Cha Hyun Soo's character. I hope we get more insight on that later.

No worries! If you didn't find Revenant scary I doubt you'll be scared with this one. Personally, I was a bit disappointed with how ineffective the scares & the whole atmosphere was.

If you're not easily scared watching horror movies, not scary at all

The end of episode 5 was so nerve-wracking. I realized just how invested I am getting in the story through that 😩

For people who watched it already, is there a switch in atmosphere later on or is the whole series on the same tone as episode 1?

This one I think you'll have to see for yourself. I've been really enjoying it so far, but it seems like half of the viewers doesn't really find anything to criticize while the other half doesn't really find anything to praise. It completely depends on your taste!
I can tell you what I enjoy about it though. I went in with no expectations and really enjoyed the first couple of episodes.
The child actors did an amazing job and the story is very interesting so far, if you're a regular drama watcher there might be a fresh feeling to it as well. Also love the cinematography!
