Title The Atypical Family Spoiler
The scene where Ina tells Gwiju "You did it. You saved someone with your power like a superhero" is incredibly important:

- Gwiju saved Dong Hee, a member of his family, not Dahae.
- But he saved Dong Hee through Dahae, she's the means by which he can take action in the past
- Ina tells Gwiju that he needs to save Dahae too BUT she doesn't mention his powers. That seems significant. As we've seen with everyone in the family, the powers are useful but they are also a trap. Gwiju may save Dahae but not in the way he thinks (also signalled in the scene where he tells her his sunbae may have been the one who rescued her from the fire)
- Also Dahae is already saving Gwiju, Ina and the whole Bok family, obviously
- At the end when Gwiju reveals how he's going to save Dahae, he's using his powers but not directly. Instead, he's aligning himself with the scammers to steal from the future the way his mother has been stealing for her entire life.
- Ina's and Gwiju's actions are closing the gap between the two families and drawing them closer together and healing both (Dahae's healing has already begun and it will extend to Grace, the silent uncle and maybe even Evil Eomma)

Did I mention I love this show? I love this show 😭😭😭

Thoughts about Dong Hee: when she started getting closer to Grace and broke up with her boyfriend she began to regain her ability to fly. But when she was losing weight in a very unhealthy way and running back to her ex she couldn't fly anymore. Dong Hee's inability to fly has nothing to do with her size and everything to do with her self esteem.

I-na and do dahee are my favorite characters honestly! They're similar in so many ways but also unique. I just…
The mothers are the real villains of the show and they are mirror images of each other trying to make money and using their children

I think my favorite role of Jang Ki Yong (where I was captivated most by his acting) was when he played the loan…
I think it's his best performance ever. he's nailing the character's grief and trauma but also doing really well in the funnier parts and in the lovesick parts

There's so many great things to comment on in this episode but something that jumped out at me is when Gwiju said it's possible his hyung saved Dahae and that she should live a better life out of gratitude. It was kind of shitty that he was guilting her but at the same time it opened the door to him letting go of the idea that he has to be the one to save her.

Guys, i really want to start this one, but i have my doubts on the ML (the actor). I ve only watched him in My…
I think he's extremely good in this, depressed but not wooden and he's handling the comedy bits really well

Well said, people really don't understand PTSD at all. Yes he's a crappy father but it's because he's mentally…
Right! I wasn't trying to dismiss the impact on Ina at all. Regardless of the reason it's awful to have a parent with severe mental illness. I think the drama makes it pretty clear he's a shitty dad at the moment (the comment from the teacher asking him if he ever speaks to Ina)

I love this interview with the music director https://fxtwitter.com/annejjangki/status/1791304543608987649

Jung Jaehyung's Successful Transformation from Composer to Music Director... Participation in The Atypical Family.

Singer and composer Jung Jaehyung has taken a successful first step as a drama music director.

Jung Jaehyung meets viewers every week as the music director for JTBC's weekend drama The Atypical Family. Having continuously expanded his musical spectrum from classical to pop and film music, Jung has received praise for his background music (BGM) and original soundtracks (OST) that enhance the story's immersion.

Jung meticulously crafts the BGM to accompany the characters' narratives. The soundtrack features a variety of sounds within a single drama: electronic music for the superhero family, a jazzy mood for the con artist family, and classical ideas for the romance, bringing a rich auditory experience.

The OST lineup has also garnered attention. Singer So Soobin, the first to sing for the OST, expressed the main leads' uncertain and uneasy relationship with her unique, bittersweet vocals in the song 'Walking With You.'

Singer Lee Sora's involvement has also sparked great interest. With parts of the OST inserted in episode 2, there are already many requests for the release of the track. Notably, this marks Lee Sora's first OST in about 2 and 1/2 years, with singer Lee Sangsoon contributing acoustic guitar performances. The high expectations are set for the highly completed track born from the unique sensibilities of Lee Sora, Lee Sangsoon, and Jung Jaehyung.

Thus, Jung Jaehyung, shouldering the heavy responsibility of a drama music director, goes beyond merely producing OSTs to overseeing all BGM work used in the drama, enhancing its overall completeness. Viewers, in turn, have praised his efforts, saying:

"It's the first time I've watched a drama because of its OST," "The music makes the drama shine even more," and "Jung Jaehyung is truly a genius." (This is true the music is soo good!😍)

I don't like the character of ML at all, neglected his wife when she was around, even after she died he didn't…
Gwiju has PTSD. In fact I think it's the most literal depiction of PTSD I've ever seen, he keep can't stop himself from reliving the past over and over again. So after his wife dies he has an emotional breakdown and falls into depression. That's why he neglected Ina. It's terrible for her but he's not a bad person, he's an ill person.

Then Dahae shows up and she's the first person he's ever been able to interact with in the past plus the entire family starts to slowly regain their powers when she enters their lives. Of course he's intrigued by her. And he sees that Ina likes her and she encourages him to try and repair his relationship with her, that's another reason for him to draw closer.

Finally he finds out that she was the one in the fire and he becomes obsessed with the idea that he can finally save someone and he thinks it's the key to healing from his trauma. He's wrong about that I think. But I actually find him an extraordinarily sympathetic character. I pretty much sympathize with everyone in the story.

Scary mommy has killed people so I'm going to say she's the one straight up evil person in the story. I agree that the uncle seems pretty kind, at least to DDH

The same for the male lead, I saw some people on Twitter dragging Gwiju for chasing Dahae and ignoring Ina. But…
I'm fascinated that the viewing lens for a lot of people is so heavily influenced by tropes that they struggle to see what's going on when tropes are subverted or tweaked. This feels like a litmus test drama in terms of the reactions.

Let me give people some advice it's coming from someone who watches all K drama, c drama, American, German and…
The same for the male lead, I saw some people on Twitter dragging Gwiju for chasing Dahae and ignoring Ina. But they aren't accounting for the fact that Dahae is the only person he can interact with in the past, of course she's going to grab his attention for that alone. And he didn't want to marry her until he found out she was at the school fire and he thinks he's going to save her. Am I justifying his treatment of Ina? No of course not, it's terrible, but saying he's chasing a pretty woman and ignoring his daughter is a wild simplification of what's going on with the character.

How is the other girl? I mean whom Ina gifted watch? Is she good?
In my opinion she's just a typical teenage girl and not evil or good but immature
