On Call It Love Mar 22, 2023
Title Call It Love Spoiler
I'm on episode 2 and thinking of dropping but I have a question: the ML catches the FL going through his mail, he asks her why, she says she's interested in him but not romantically and then...that's it? He goes to his apartment, she goes through his mail. And then the next morning she goes to work early and gets caught in his office by the office manager. Why doesn't she get fired? Do we learn something later that explains it? I couldn't really get past it but if there's some explanation later I can deal for now.

This is another general criticism but the color grading and production design are really off for what's supposed to be a sad drama. For example, the siblings lose their home but they end up living with a friend who has a really nice house. Yes it sucks to lose your family home obviously and there's going to be a lot of anger around that but all things considered they didn't land in a bad place so it kind of undercuts the the FL's revenge arc. Also everything is overlit and kind of looks like a sitcom. It's bugging me a lot.

So far my favorite character is the older sister, she's crazy, slutty and hilarious 😆 I also love the lead actors but the overall production is uninspiring.

Came here after finishing this series and was surprised by some of the negative comments. Are we just getting…
I'm surprised too. Feels like a lot of people wanted a teen drama or more skinship but were served a multigenerational slice of life instead. I loved it though, miles ahead of the typical BL.

I kept on wondering about the reason for Jim's character development in Episode 7. I don't know if it is because…
I agree with you, that's a good take

She did! She’s in the same frame with Li Ming’s mom, right after Heart’s parents.
FYI you can ask MDL to add her. I did that with the kid who played young Ohm in 10 Year Ticket.

Maybe it's a mistranslation, but Li Ming said that people in the US give like 1000-2000 baht tips each, and I'm…
I was just grateful he has a rich boyfriend to travel to the US with. That's the fantasy element of the story because otherwise he'd be working as a dishwasher at a restaurant for sub minimum wage and sharing a room with 12 people.

"Crash Course in Romance" this title really doesn't make sense. Totally misleading.
The literal translation of the Korean title is One Hit Scandal. Very different from the English title.

From what i understood the scenes and interactions between Jim and Wen happens few days or weeks after the other,…
Thank you for this! I caught some of the time passing but not all of it because I don't know the Thai holidays.

Does anyone think Wen and Jim however cute they are now are not actually that compatible? It just feels like that…
Those are potential points of conflict but I also think the drama makes it clear that Wen helps lighten Jim's burdens and brings a sense of fun into his life that was missing. And Wen gets stability and emotional support from a mature partner who isn't needy the way Alan was. Nothing in life is guaranteed right? But I think they have a good shot at a long-term relationship

As an older person I have to say I loved seeing a portrayal of a mature relationship in a BL. I'm not into watching high school dramas with very few exceptions so that rules out a lot of BLs for me (sorry MSP fans, couldn't get into it). But MLC showed adults who were emotionally scarred, had suffered real losses and setbacks, and were overwhelmed by responsibility and the struggle to make a living. It was quietly heartbreaking how much Jim supported everyone in the community, how he was everyone's rock, yet he couldn't let anyone get close enough to share his burdens because of unresolved grief. Same for Wen being trapped in a relationship he couldn't fully let go of because on some level he kept hoping for a return of the love he once felt. Their courtship felt very real as Wen broke down Jim's defences little by little and they both allowed themselves to put the past behind and love again. Alan was a sympathetic person too, very flawed but acting out of grief and desperately hoping to repair a relationship that was already dead.

Even though I'm not generally a fan of teen romances, Li Ming and Heart were so incredibly sweet. Heart was isolated by his disability and deeply lonely, Li Ming was angry and acting out because he didn't feel he had a real future outside of working at his uncle's restaurant. They helped each other to mature and stand up for themselves and their relationship. It was so beautifully done.

I also loved how the show portrayed all different kinds of love and found family. Gaipa's relationship with his mother, Li Ming's relationship with Uncle Jim (the "when did you know yourself?" question from Jim was amazing), the conversation at the mall between Li Ming and his mother, even Saleng and Praew's new family. It gave a richness to the narrative beyond simply focusing on romance.

This is one of those rare gems that's working on every level: writing, cinematography, OST and of course acting (not a weak performance in the entire cast). I hope this gets seen widely and appreciated as it deserves.

I think it is very subtle, but at the same time, very clearly?Like we all can see how Wen fell at the first sight…
I also think that Wen was fun and light-hearted and Jim needed that. He had so many responsibilities and burdens from a young age and he needed someone in his life who made him laugh and experience joy again.

What other romcom are you watching now? I’m also putting this on hold, difficult for me to invest with the characters…
Objectively speaking CCIR is a better written drama but I had way more fun watching Love to Hate You.

Episode 6 should have been it for Alan and Wen's storyline. I really hope they do spend too much time on that…
I think Alan is going to recuperate at Jim's home and that's how he's going to meet Gaipa

i feel like the acting was best during the island episodes idk what made it worse as the show progressed instead…
Because the Island episodes were about them bonding and they have real chemistry so it was charming and sweet even if the acting was shaky. The mafia crap is way beyond their capabilities. But I like this pairing a lot, I hope they get cast in things that suit them better

Wow the latest comments here are so balanced and fair I feel like I walked into the wrong message thread 🤣. The show's writing went to shit but P&P had some achingly sweet moments and I want to see more of them. A lot of GMMTV actors started out pretty weak and got better so I'm rooting for them. They have the chemistry and acting can be learned.

I restarted watching this drama again, starting from Episode 9. Somehow this drama is not really directed or written…
I mean if it comes right down to it he didn't need to go over to the house at all to to her, he could have done it on FaceTime. But you know drama reasons 😅

Btw, what does everyone think of Young Joo's sudden crush?
It came across as predatory and a bit offensive because he was like her last desperate hope for a relationship so she almost tried to trick him into one. What was that business with if you eat the fish you're my boyfriend? Alll the nopes and red flags there.

I was so distracted by the murder plot that I forgot the other trope kdramas love: the last minute break up and…
They foreshadowed a breakup pretty hard when HS says "When I cut ties with someone, I am utterly merciless and make a clean break."

She does look much too old for this role though. Even though I'm quite enjoying the story, it irritates me that…
She's styled that way on purpose because the fantasy is that you can be a mother who is too busy caring for her family and running her business and still win the love of a handsome and wealthy man. We know that the actress can look glamorous when she's styled that way. The dowdy ahjumma look isn't a choice the actress made, it was made by the production team.
