at first I thought that the old man was Gil Chae...
No I meant I don't understand korean so I read the subtitles, a lot might be lost in translation. I think the prisoner was gendered male in the subtitles but not sure in Korean

Who would read the comments on the second part of a show they haven't watch ?

Could be ! The reaction they had when they heard the name made me think it might be Ryang Eum but you could be right. I don't watch in Korean but I'm pretty sure the person in the cell is referred as "him" though

There's no spoilers here, just assumptions on the possible sad ending, also this is part 2, no one here hasn't already seen part 1 ^^

Even though he green flag'd the last conversation I really wanted him to include what happened to her wasn't her…
He already told her that women who got abused by the invaders are not to blame in one of their conversation back in Simyang

If the historical drama does not end with tears, was it even good in the first place ? The red sleeve, Mr.sunshine, Scarley heart ryeo...
Considering the first scenes in the first episode + the fact that it's literally taged melodrama lool, what did anyone expect.
The man in the prison in ep1 seems to be Ryang Eum and he was probably waiting for LJH all those years, meaning he probably died on that beach..
What's heart wrenching is to not expect it, they at least had the decency to warn us from the get go, we'll be prepared, and in the best case scenario, they'll give us a happy ending to beat the expectations.

I thoroughly enjoyed this! Everyone worked really hard for their character, you can tell. I always love when I stumble upon a kdramas that cast for talent above all else (and not look above all else). Yuna was fantastic!

The ending is not really an open ending, we get closure on everything. It's more like a "there is more to the story of the research but that's not what this drama is about anyway". If anything, it's only relevent that we know that the answer to THE question is "Yes".
I don't think there is enough material for a second season, though I would have loved to see Myung Joon dad.
We'll ignore all the things that don't make sense, they are not that much of a bother compared to other kdramas I have seen.
It was a good watch.

Most people will have heard of AIDS but not familiar with HIV. Not because you know, others will know too. Watch…
wtf? my bad, I didn't think it was that bad, it's not like they don't have the mean to be educated on the matter. Are like STDs not that present for them to just act like only foreigners can have them ? what about pregnancies ?

is SK living in the 1600s ? of course people know about HIV and how to get it.
She didn't get her husband tested though. She left without telling him 🙄

I'm on episode 4, and no way in big 2023 are they this uninformed about HIV. Did they really have a character diagnosed with HIV without having her tell her HUSBAND, whom she probably had sex with? lmao
They're acting like she is doomed or something, abandoning her child and all. Right way stigmatise people who have HIV, they don't have enough fingers pointed at them already.

Like, I don't even want to believe she has HIV because there is no way they made a big adult like him not know what HIV is and how it's transmitted. The girl, well, genius or not, she's a child. But it's too convenient that both of them didn't raise an eyebrow.

Title My Dearest Part 2 Spoiler
Ugh, I'm annoyed. It's just a rant, I'm bitter, leave me alone T_T

I saw the preview for the next episodes and the writers having ML save FL over and over and over again is getting old.
I liked the first part, they were not pushing too much. They included the very cliché "ML saves FL" two times, despite her being on the run and the chances of him finding her were low, but alright, I'll allow it.
Now we're doing this again? And to make it more heroic, he has to save her from the ABSOLUTE WORSE right ? They are at two different places with no want to find each other again, you have to put them together again, was making her go through all of that really necessary? Putting her through being kidnapped and having the fright to be raped and humiliated just for ML to save her because "omg he's a hero" with no care to traumatizing her (bc who cares, she's just fictional) is just lazy writing.
Creating crazy and ridiculous opportunities for them to meet just because they did sht with his character by sending him away is lazy writing.
Is the point of the story just him saving her all the time despite the chances of him even being here to save the day super low ?

Having her say "I'd rather die than ask for his help" doesn't change the fact that she is still put in a situation of demoiselle in distress over and over again just for him to save the day. Go away, she sent word to her husband, let him come.

The Manchurians had their hairstyles in the queue style, which was a shaven head except for one long ponytail/braid…
Ah see, I understood why Jang was exposed by his hair in part 1 but I didn't think every slave had their head shaven, especially considering the fact that a lot of the slaves that escaped had their long hair. Thank you for the explanation, it makes total sense!

It's good that the show had enough success to allow a S2. They definitly wrote S1 with two seasons in mind considering all the missing informations and unfinished plot lines, so I'm glad it doesn't get cancelled !
The final reunion was a bit underwhelming though.

it gets more interesting in ep 3 but still not the compelling masterpiece it's claimed to be. in my opinion.
Overall probably not but in the romance genre the bar is soo low that it definitly falls in the top tier, I think the female lead didn't give as much emotions than the ML. His acting was beautiful for the way the character was written.

i feel like gilchae is one of the best written female leads in kdramas.
Her and Deok Im in The red Sleeves. It's even more amazing that they were written like that in a historical kdrama. Strong women who do not let men direct their lives.
