Season one had just as much plot armor and conventient and unrealistic scenes, Dogi getting the life beat out…
I didn't talk about other people, I talked about me. The higher my standards, the less I enjoy things that don't make sense, simple as that. The fact that I don't remember being bothered that much by season 1 compared to episode 2 migt be enough proof. I also know that there are shows I liked a couple or more years ago that I don't enjoy much now because I got to watch better things so I expect and want better. It might also be that the unrealistic things happening in episode 2 are more visible in one episode than in all of season 1, which might be why I'm bothered now but not so much then ? Again I don't remember much of it so I can't answer that question.
Male lead going AWOL for all day and night without anyone checking on him in his cell, I know they don't care…
Exactly ! I can still sort of ignore the super strength or whatever of ML and assume his opponents are just that bad at fighting even though that's not how it works in real life. But the hacking ? Now they can do whatever and explain it by "boup boup, computer skills". The glasses are the worse, I swear 😠like they just work anywhere ? They look so fragile and the side taping ? lmaoo I'll still watch it too for now because there's nothing else and I still like the dynamic of the team, I'm weak for friends turn family groups!
Male lead going AWOL for all day and night without anyone checking on him in his cell, I know they don't care…
hahaha for the doors I was just like "Oh come ON !!!". I know exactly what scene you are referring too about the flying guy, I noticed it too lmao. I'll watch too, I agree that their little band is fun and cute
Season one had just as much plot armor and conventient and unrealistic scenes, Dogi getting the life beat out…
I assumed much, I think my standards got better with time, I have to admit I don't remember much from S1. I don't think they try to be realistic either considering what I pointed out, but it's hard to ignore it sometimes. I'll still watch it though because I like the band they have. We'll see if I'll last until the end haha
Plot armor was strong strong in the second episode + too much things they tried to explain by just "hacking" everything…
Male lead going AWOL for all day and night without anyone checking on him in his cell, I know they don't care but still, it's convenient. They get ambushed, but they can't go to the big boss, but oh well, who cares, it serves the plot that they do instead of just calling him on the side of the road. None of the vilain has weapons ? Sure. He can fight all of them without sweating and even take the big guy in the end ? Sure. They can locate the dirty cop getting away even though he had no tracking device on him ? Sure. Male lead won't make it in time and he knows that because of course he knows the city even though it's his first time in Vietnam and can tell how far away he is from where he is going, right ? Right. But don't worry apparently they can hack into the doors of the abandoned amusement park that look too old to be automatic and it gave him....15 seconds ? yeah he was definetly too far.
I know it sounds like I'm just trying to find defaults in everything and taking it too seriously, but it's the little things like that, one after the other that just ruins the experience for me.
Plot armor was strong strong in the second episode + too much things they tried to explain by just "hacking" everything even when it was not possible, it kind of ruined it for me. I don't know if it was that obvious in season 1 because it's been a while and I can't remember, but there were just too many time where I was like "How even?".
fr i fear nothing's gonna top tkop for me. this and the glory haven't come close
" you know what....yeah that can't be defended but imma stand by it !!" Good for you for standing your ground ! It's a bad hill to die on, but you do you HAHAHA
omg I just realised I wrote "it focuses on this young girl who's very very poor and sees a chance to correct that at the depend of what she will learn is a very very good man" I meant at the EXPENSE. I went with the french word for it and it changed the whole meaning sorry!!!
"my liberation sounds more comforting so i think i'll save that for when aunt flo comes to visit" you let me know if you ever watch it and what you thought of it if you finish it! My mister will still leave you warm, it's a confort in a cold way, if that makes sense.
I think I'll watch the korean version first as to not be disapointed if I watch the british version first since you said they softened the female character a bit more. I'll watch the british version after. I just looked, it's only 10 episode, that's good ! I look forward to see the ending and why people were disapointed now haha
Episode 6 : They should have let the contestants make the team before telling them the new challenge. Had they not know what it was about and considering the previous one, the teams could have been more heterogenous. It gave 0 chances to the last team who has less muscles.
fr i fear nothing's gonna top tkop for me. this and the glory haven't come close
"sis.... don't kill me but i only watched this for the first time recently " LMAO i'm blocking you! You said "also maybe bc i'm old and had just finished high school when it came out" so I assumed you watched it WHEN it came out, what do you mean you watched it recently ????? gIRL, lmaooo, I can't even defend you , I'm taking away all the the gymnastic I made to somehow defend you on it. How does it smell down in the sewer ??? hun??
"don't watch it when you wanna watch something fluffy" I rarely do and the way you describe the drama is how I thought it would be so that's good for me! I love politics and power dynamic. I didn't see the british version, I thought it was a remake of an american production but now I'm conflicted about which version to watch because I do love how british people shoot their shows !!
"i was gonna ask about my mister and my liberation note! i tend to stay away from melos because they bore me to tears or depress me lol. what'd you like about them?"
Ok, so, they are so hard to describe so I hope I won't make you run away from it. You see how you say that nowaday it makes no sense that they wait 15 episodes to hold hands ? In my liberation note, you have two adults who both search in each other something more than romance. It's not about trying to get a boyfriend and a girlfriend but about trying to feel alive together instead of being depressed alone. It's done in a very mature way, not in a "YOLO" kinf of way. See I'm already bad at it lmaoo. They are ALL adults people in the working life and the main comes from a poor family in the countryside with all the children working in Seoul. We actually focus on her but also her brother and her sister. They struggle a lot because of their status now that they all tasted life at seoul because of work. We see them try to find meaning in their lived and literally just, live. It's not boring at ALL. I refuse to believe anyone thought of it as boring, even though it's not filmed in a super fast fast pace. There is so much character growth from literally everyone and it was just so good. Idk how to explain it, this show was such a confort every week. The start is a bit slow but I swear you won't regret it.
As for My Mister, the pacing is actually the same, it's not rushed, it very mature and it focuses on this young girl who's very very poor and sees a chance to correct that at the depend of what she will learn is a very very good man. I don't how to sell you this one, I gave everything on the first one hahaha! Honeslty, it reminds me of rainy winter days at 11pm on the street to my way home after work on a friday night, knowing the week-end is here. That's literally how I would desribe it. But if you have one a chance and you love it, give the other one a chance too. I feel like if you could hold on to Mr.Sunshine, you can do these two. Only these have less episodes :)
fr i fear nothing's gonna top tkop for me. this and the glory haven't come close
"it's wild to me that people will have a bunch of 10s on their list" I think it depends on how accurate you decide to make your ratings and how serious you take ratings. 100% agree with you that havint so many 10s is wild but I think it's because we value our ratings more than them. Or maybe they just have low standards haha. Sometimes I will post a critic and someone will answer disagreeing and if I'm too lazy to debat, I'll look at their 10s and if they rated 10s things that I really didn't like or have like 15 kdramas rated 10, I'll just ignore the reply lol.
" the bullying one second and then falling in love?" I was flabbergasted with the audacity of the writers lmaooo But if you saw it a while ago, I'll allow it. I got into kdramas a little bit under 3 years ago (I'm a lockdown arrivist haha) so it was already too old for me to watch. And the hair ? HAHAHAHA. Sue me, but I don't like Lee Minho, I never saw anything from him because I wan't with his face. But I do get the nostalgic feelings it could bring you, like, you saw it when you could like it and your mind just accepted it that you can still watch it today even though it's bad bad.
"but i love a mature couple" I'm not fan of romance myself but yeah if t's mature enough I'll watch it. It's easier for me if the couple is married because we skip the corny flirting that koreans love to write. I haven't seen world of the married yet, I've been putting off the watch because I feel like it's the kind of drama that could potentially be so good that it could ruin everything that comes after. Mr.sunshine was chef's kiss. I would have loved more romance myself but in the case of the show, the historical and class context explains the modesty of the main couple. In today's time, characters that take 10 episodes to hold hands make no sense because that's not even how koreans are in real life. So for once, I didn't mind, but I was craving for more for sure. I feel like they handled the edginess really well. And the side characters were all so interesting that I didn't feel like they were just here to fill some screen time. The red sleeve is for sure less less less mature than mr sunshine, but like I said, my 10 comes from the female lead's moral and personality :)
I'll check reset first then, it's good that it came out this year!
"it seems like dramas are only written by one person." I sort of dont mind because it's easier to follow a writer's work after that haha. If a writer did a good drama, I tend to check the next one even if the summary doesn't appeal me. Like, My Mister was such an amazing drama that when the writer came up with My libertation note, I had to watch it and I didn't regret it. I highly highly reccomend them since you like more kdramas with a more mature story. It's not corny, it's not too much, it's the perfect amount of everything imo. It's a bit bittersweet but not the kind that makes you regret watching the show.
Actor and actresses who refuse to take on roles fit for their ages are ridiculous af. Song Joong-ki also went…
Like I said, internalised misogyny is hard thing to eradicate. Mix that with fan cultu re and anonymity on the internet and you have the worse things women can says about another woman on full display. It's sad. MDL is full of people from all around the world I would guess and of all ages. It's easy to either find youg girls or women from countries were feminism is not as developed as some other parts of the world to propose an explanation to most of the bad things we can see. I'd like to think feminists are not among the ones being mean but the truth is, anonymity can allow anyone to be mean

I agree. It's because older man/younger woman type of relationships are way more normalised than the other way around. I mean, when the female protagonist in a romcom is older, it's called a "noona drama", but there is no name for when the man is older. In my language there is only one term to describe someone who is older in a relationship and it's only when it's the woman (couguar), I assume it's the case in a lot of languages, though I wouldn't know for sure..
People are a product of their environment unfortunately. If Lee Do Hyun was not as young, I'm sure no one would point SHK's age...
"The fact that women themselves put men on a pedestal and promote contempt and hatred for their own gender is baffling."
Internalised misogyny is a hard thing to eradicate, I wouldn't expect you to fully understand it since you're a man (though internalised racism could have been part of your journey too, and it works a bit the same), but it requires women to question everything they ever learned and how they think and view the world. It's hard, but yes, it is sad indeeed.
