First, I had issues with the pacing. Although the cinematography in this low-budget drama was undeniably beautiful,…
I understand that. I never would have imagined I would watch an 82 episode c-drama, I also watch shows slowly, I'm not a bingewater. I watched the entire show in 32 days. That's 17 days for season 1 and 15 days for season 2, I was also doing exams at the same time. That's the fastest I've ever watched a drama. I used to watch kdramas and they would genuinely take me 3-6 months. I'm quite new to cdramas but they have a certain vibe to them and certain tropes they like to use, Joy of Life is completely unique. Ngl I was really upset after finishing it because I knew I would never watch a show like this again. There is also a MAJOR plot twist that shocked me so much.
The number of episodes scared me first too. Had put this on hold for awhile until after I watch “The Double”.…
also I I watched a few eps of dream within a dream but I can't really get into it...I think i'm just going to bite the bullet and watch yanxi palace...I was thinking of starting minglan but I think I will save that drama
Can anyone tell me if this cdrama focus entirely on romance or is there other plotlines that intersect as well? I enjoy romance but I also would to like to watch an exciting plot!

with joy of life you need to keep watching, it has the craziest plot twist I've ever watched, especially the transmigration part I don't want to spoil it , but things are not as they seem at all (I was so shocked when it happened) but I would say keep watching to ep 7 before deciding to drop it. If you've seen Yanxi Palace maybe you want more classics like Empresses in the Palace, Ruyi's royal love in the palace. If you want something with less episodes, I absolutely adore Flourished Peony, its quite fast paced with a lot happening. If you're feeling fatigued by cdramas, try the anime The Apothecary Diaries, its set in Ancient China and follows a girl who was kidnapped and sold to the palace. She's extremely intelligent when it comes to poisons, medicine and solving mysteries and slowly rises up the ranks in the palace, catching the attention of a 'eunuch' named Jinshi who is intensely beautiful!

I'm screaming😂I loved Legend of Zhang Hai though I thought it was brilliant, but the last few eps weren't as strong. I haven't watched Yanxi palace yet, I ended up watching s1 and 2 of joy of life and loved that, now I'm thinking of watching a dream within a dream!
