I haven't seen extraordinary you but iv seen a lot of clips and basically know the story this was a fun comparison…
I started to watch due to hype (it's a cult drama with dedicated online following but it basically flopped in SK) but had to drop. It got repetitive and Rowoon can't act his way out of a paper bag. Everyone ran circles around him and half of the cast weren't even that good themselves.
Hair color is changed because all these actors look better with natural hair color. Hair dye = impaired visuals (see that Elf guy but he is a background role and a no-name actor so who cares?) . That's all that really is and it's perfectly fine. What works in cartoon form doesn't always work in live action.
Also, they take way too long to establish the backstory. I just skip all the childhood nonsense in the first couple…
Well said! Sageuk tropes are terrible and make every drama interchangeable. It's always kids to lovers crap, secret identity crap and chick disguising as dude crap even though everyone can see it's a girl. Also, recycled sets and costumes make them look beyond cheap. And more often than not, really bad acting. It appears that no one told MLs that men of that time were stoic, they didn't cry waterfalls like anime characters.
Please take the drama outdoors more. Locations are big reason why this drama is so awesome. less scheming in confined places, more exotic outdoors and sweeping vistas.
Please get a new costume design for leading ladies. Taealha's dresses looked too modern and were made of really cheap synthetic. I like men's fashion and what Tan Ya wore before enslavement but Taealha's fashion is terrible, takes you out of Arthdal and into a dollar store.
I binged this on Netflix a year after it came out but have heard they split 18 episodes in 3 chapters that were released few months apart. Please no! I like the thematic chapter idea but without wait. It's bad enough that this will be weekly release as opposed to binge (full season at once) but to wait for months between lets say episode 6 and episode 7 is unacceptable.
For me that Kim ji won scene in the final episode of part 2 of season 1 is the best like whenever I see this drama…
was it the dance? That scene gave me goosebumps because it's such a great Chekkov's Gun. They established that she couldn't learn the steps but we didn't know why the dance was important until THAT twist. Love this drama so much.
that's a given. No way they greenlight this w/o SJK. Too expensive not to have a real superstar attached. Especially since the drama was much more popular internationally via Netflix than domestically (it had average ratings). International markets saved a lot of domestic duds thanks to loyalty to superstars (eg. KTEM).
Hell YES! The king of dramas finally returns. Ever since the first episode aired, this show has shown promises…
Agreed. I hope that season 2 give us more epic moments such as first few episodes and then last few and cut on typical sageuk scheming in closed quarters. Throw all the money you have on world building, epic action and sweeping vistas.
They better have the same cast, especially Song Joong Ki!!
Doubtful this is going in production without him (by far the biggest star and also an actual star) so he's in but they'll announce later. Also, his drama and movie finished production so he has an open schedule for this.
Need more anime adaptations into kdrama, it would be awesome to see some of the amazing anime stories into kdramas
since Hollywood never got around making movies off manga properties they bought rights for (Robotech/Macros - Tobey Maguire was once attached to play Rick Hunter, Akira - Leonardo DiCaprio bought rights, Evangelion - this one had Peter Jackson attached at some point after LOTR) , K dramas can jump in preferably with Netflix money.
I would love to see the following shows remade as dramas but ONLY under these conditions:
None of the dramas will cast actors that I blacklisted for life: AHS, Han So Hee, Kim So Hyun, LDW, Jo Boa, Jeon Yeon Been, Krystal, Kim Ji Won, Song Hye Kyo, Na In Woo, Moon Ga Young. There's more but these are off top of my head.
Must be made by Netflix or other American streamer which guarantees that the drama will be more steamlined, unlike the usual filler-heavy waste of domestic-made dramas, episodes won't be almost 2 hours long, Netflix means binge release (the whole season).
If original content had sex and nudity, that stays in K version (hence why American streamers are the only way for this to happen)
Remake should not be frame by frame so to speak - unique take on the source is encouraged - and if there was something that enraged fandom (think Lost/BSG/GOT ending or turn that TWD took after season 1 but especially after Glenn you know what) by all means change it
Dramas that I'd like to see remade:
The Walking Dead (aka TWD) - K's are masters of this genre and TWD comic book is stronger than what the show ended up being. Daryl was a great addition though (he is show's original character).
Lost - fantasy/mystery contemporary drama meets Singles Inferno is ideal for K remake
Battlestar Galactica (aka BSG) - space is yet widely unexplored genre in dramas but The Silent Sea showed what American budget can do. And unlike that drama, BSG has a great script.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer - cut Angel and Riley nonsense and dive into Buffy and Spike, the TV's greatest romance.
Dark - German time travel masterpiece shows that time travel as a plot device is infinitely more effective than reincarnation.
Game of Thrones - Arthdal Chronicles was a step in the right direction that convinced me they could do this right as well as...
Lord of the Rings - Amazon is making a fanfic, K's would make a remake.
Sex/Life - lets get some use of those impressive bods that are usually covered in tailored suits.'
Mad Max franchise - lets see some dirty futuristic fight for fuel and territory
Star Trek Deep Space Nine - best Trek and different from exploration Trek that all other Trek shows and movies covered.
More Rang (Kim Bum) less romance (preferably zero) since bromance was the best/only good part of Season 1 and I might consider peeking at Ep 1.
