I think those who say that have a fundamental misunderstanding of his character. He's not some seasoned crime boss like Park Hee-soon in My Name. Nor is he really a typical "big-time" thug.

He only killed the previous gang leader because he murdered his best friend in front of him. These are not seasoned criminals; they're a group of young friends who find themselves at the top for the first time. Gicheul's tragic past and love for Euijung are both meant to humanize him. So if you just see the character as you describe him in your comment, of course something would feel off. Because that's not the full extent of the character. He's not a typical crime boss.

I meant to space out the three episodes so I didn't have to wait a week for more. But that wasn't possible, because once I had started, I could not stop. Great start to the show. I also like that most of the stuff from the trailers was in these three episodes, so we really have no idea where this is going to go next.

So petty to pit two successful actors against one another, both of whom are great in this. It also makes it transparent that you, a JCW fan, are intimidated by WHJ's growing popularity.

Sounds like a you problem. They obviously had to establish his rise in Gangnam and the drug trafficking done by his gang for there to even be a reason for Junmo to go undercover.

I actually think it's one of its best features. Too often I find action dramas lack an emotional core, and this show has found a great way to tie its three main characters together through past and present relationships which adds both complexity and emotional stakes to the operation.

I've stopped taking the overall rating seriously. The only rating that still seems somewhat wortwhile to check is the rating among those who have marked it as "Completed", once a drama has finished airing. It's too easy to manipulate the rating otherwise. You see KBLs where every rating metric is like 9.1, and then the show still somehow has 8.2 overall. Then something like King the Land which was given a million 1s because of their portrayal of a Saudi prince still somehow has 8.4. It seems completely arbitrary, or episode ratings have way too much impact.

It was literally just announced. Why does it matter that the page hasn't been created yet?

They are the moment. I can't believe Hyun-wook is having this kind of success already at 21. 😭

Some of this is not working for me so far, but I did cry in episode 2, so let's see how next week is.

For those confused about timelines today:
1) Eun-Gyeol's childhood/back story, portrayed by young actor.
2) Eun-Gyeol in his present, studying to get into med school/playing guitar on the street.
3) Brief parallel to the parents' youth timeline with the Watermelon Sugar ice cream, as evidenced by the period clothing, shop/street decor, phone booth queues etc. I'm honestly guessing this was just done because they didn't want Hyun-wook and In-ah to not appear in the first episode at all.
ALSO: There has been no time travel yet. Eun-Gyeol has not time-slipped yet (not counting preview).

I thought there were clears signs both in fashion and decor. Also the people quieing for the phone booths outside - I assume that's not very common in Korea in 2023?

Absolutely loved this. Will probably rewatch it soon. The main trio were perfect. And the OST! Saw someone below saying that Yeobeen and Hyoseop have no chemistry in this which is the funniest thing I've read today. Beautiful chemistry both on screen and off; they seem to really have hit it off.

He is, people probably just got confused because of the parallel to the past timeline.

I hate when dramas treat the first episode like a prologue. It's almost always better to show back story in flashbacks across several episodes than to spend 50 minutes dumping all of it on us in the first one. As a consequence, we barely got any time with most of the actual leads today. Hope tomorrow is better!

It is my understanding that it is only romanized as "Lee" if it's the family name, and so "Yi" in this case, but I do not speak Korean, so I may be wrong.
