I don't think they need to recast the leads bc they look different after the time skip in the anime, give them another wig and that'll do it. Also, they altered the story so much already, Tang San's physical transformation doesn't have much impact on the story as far as I remember.
I don't think the drama can keep its initial charm if it's without Xiao Zhan and Betty Wu.

I miss this. I watched like over 100 eps of the anime after this, but the drama is more to my taste.
