Ok that's it. It's my favorite BL series now. Yin and War natural acting, complex characters, smart writing, good cinematography, etc. Great series. And I think the development is very logical in terms of feelings, emotions, social norms...Vee is used to the the easiness of his relationship with Ploy. He will be "normal". He will be "comfortable". Pretense. He was with her because people think they look good together. And he gets used to it. He doesn't dislike her. He has affection for her but not love. He is not ready to be true to what he is and what he feels. He is not ready to be out of the "norms". He won't confront his father about it. Beside Mark says it : he's not ready to be out. Vee is a narcissist indeed. A coward in fact. And he is so "human", with flaws. He wants the "social" comfort and what his heart truly seeks at the same time. And he will lose all if he cannot make a choice.
I only hope that, for season 2, the plot will be better, coherent and with more action. It was an enjoyable first season for sure : love the acting of some actors, the cinematography, the "dark" aspect, etc. but the flaws in the writing and in the plot are difficult to ignore. I agree with people when they say there is this weird mix of comedy, angst, action and romance. I hope those different aspects of the show will flow more nicely in season 2. But the most important is the plot and the writing. To be frank, first episode of KP makes me expect more actions scenes, more suspense, etc. But sadly I could not find those elements in the series later. Something is lacking and I think it is mainly because the series needs more suspense and more tension. You can find it in VP scenes (but it was too rushed in some parts) : I wish they have extended that kind of tension to other storylines.
And I've watched the last episodes of My secret Love, Love Mechanics, Kinn Porsche today...all of them having angst too...I've spent three hours crying lol I think I will wait for To my star 2...
Ok. I think I'll be the most positive reviewer here ahah ! What a great episode ! Vegas and Pete scenes were heartbreaking. Build and Bible really acted very well in those scenes. All the revelations about Porsche past and family ! I think the pool scene was beautiful : love the cinematography of it, with all the buildings around. There is something grandiose about it lol Maybe my most favorite episode. I hope we will have season 2 with the same actors ! Because each of them embody their character so well !
This is a nice little series even if it is not always well-acted. I think ep.6 will be quite beautiful. All the couples are interesting, but I like Kim and Mek story the most.
I think it doesn't make really sense in terms of characterization to see Pete as the guy who wants to bring happiness…
Let's just say I have a different perspective on Pete character than Build ;) I agree when you say he "disconnects himself". But him being optimistic and empathetic, I'm not so sure. And I don't think this is believable for someone working in the mafia. If the novel (I haven't read it), goes this way (and describes him as someone like this), it would be hardly believable for me. However, when Builds plays Pete , you can feel that his spontaneous interpretation of his character is fortunately ambiguous (and I guess it's also because the director has also his say). Even when he looks happy and act like someone who's optimistic, you can always feel like he doesn't "think" it or like he is "disillusioned". There's always that "sad"/"dark" aura.

Yes, but this line of work is not the common one. Pete having an emotional reaction (warmer or colder) based on who is in front of him is what most people are doing. Of course, you'll feel closer to someone you know more or because you have the same interest, etc. I don't really think this is empathy. I think empathy will most likely play when you meet a complete stranger.
Pete to me is the most interesting and mysterious character in the series. It is a shame his character is not…
I think it doesn't make really sense in terms of characterization to see Pete as the guy who wants to bring happiness to all the people around him. So I disagree with this analysis (and also with what Build thinks about the character too). And I disagree with the series if it goes that way. It would not be really believable. Why ? - because he works for the mafia. - because he cannot be empathetic if he wants to do his "job". His smiles can be the logical explanation of how he is dealing with his job as a "killer" and an "abuser" : a way to detach himself from the dirty job and from his identity as someone causing the hardship of people who are victims . Like a facade. He is then an hypocrite. And maybe that's why he reassures himself by saying no one is good or bad. Why is he in the mafia then ? I think : - For money reason, first - For a sense of "family", since his father was not really a "great" father...Maybe he's seeing the Big boss as a surrogate for a "good" father. Or maybe in his mind, a "fatherly" figure is always associated with violence. - And because of his family history, he always has a complex connection with violence and pain. The way he seems like a masochist can be explained by : - His feeling of guilt (because of his work) - His feeling of being still unworthy (even if he was aware his father "sucks", it is still very difficult to let go of this frame of mind). - His way of feeling "better" since he has "suffered", so he has paid a little for the bad deeds he is doing every day...just like the Mafia are very religious or use the idea of " a code of honor" in order to appear more "respectable", while they are not...
Dear user of MDL, you've decided to read the comments on this episode. And you've just stumbled upon mine. Let me tell you : my comment will be quite thought-provoking and shocking.
Because I am from a (very) rare species : I belong to this little community of people who appreciate both "couples" and the time they have on the screen :)))))))
