there are lots of actors out there with great potential. in his case probably a mix of luck, talent and the right connections. i'm not slighting him at all though, he made the greatest use of a career defining opportunity that came his way.
I wonder if Prime Viewers especially in the West recognized Park Min Young from Marry My Husband which was really popular for a kdrama on Prime so they were inclined to give Confidence Queen a try. It's quite fun and it's good to see her in a role where she can really have fun in scenes.
