Because Koreans are so reticent with personal feelings, this show was going to be a challenge from day one. I liked the experiment and I agree with other commenters regarding what a leap this is for LGBTQ+ exposure in that country, but the unwillingness/inability to express deep feelings...often times until it's too late...made it slow and frustrating for me.
OK I loved it, Earth & Mix have great chemistry. My only complaint is the ages of the characters. If Win's father started the dairy in 1961, he would have been around 80 when he died. Leaving behind two kids in the mid/late 20s? Not to mention his siblings In and Nu, also in their mid/late 20s. If he was 80, his siblings are too young. If he wasn't 80 it would have been impossible for him to start the dairy that long ago. OK I'll stop. πππ
I absolutely cannot believe this amazing series didn't get more attention. The plot is captivating and it's so well executed. Compare this to something like "My Tee" (sorry, no offence Frank & Drake) and consider how far BL has come in just a few years.
What the actual eff were the last two episodes? Of course Valen didn't give Kaitoon any chance to explain his misunderstandings, but a 30 second conversation with someone he doesn't like makes everything okay. Never mind the fact that they ran into each other randomly on a beach HOURS away from where they live...it would be like two people from New York running into each other on a beach in Miami. Really? Valen is satisfied with everything, so now it's time to reunite with Kaitoon? Um...what about the fact that he asked poor Pango to be his girlfriend? What about her feelings, not to mention how Kaitoon would feel about that? Gun and Pak are both cute and I did like them together, but Valen was written horribly as a character. Don't even get me started on the other couples, this would be a book. But....would I watch a season three? Of course I would. The best part of watching BL is b*tching about it afterwards! πππ
Okay this series wasn't horrible, and as others have said it had potential. The couples had some decent chemistry. The thing that bugged me the most was Aunt Dora (the explorer?). What an annoying caricature of a transgendered person. When she reunited with her nephew Inton after what appears to be several years of separation, her first comment is on the size of his penis. What? Hi, you're related. Who wrote that? Otherwise it was mostly tolerable.
Thank you @mochani for helping me to finally watch this movie. I loved it as much as I loved the series....although there is zero intimacy between Haruta and Maki. Do they even have a sex life? Anyway, the very sweet moment at the end helped to make up for it, but I would have liked to see a little bit of affection along the way. Otherwise it was laugh out loud funny, just amazing.
I thought this series was just beautiful. Jimmy and Jae Hyun had great chemistry and the story was compelling. I'd love a season two where we can see what happens after Peach's bracelet fell off...will his wish be fulfilled?
romanticizing and s3xualizing extremely toxic behaviors like SA or mental/physical abuse is never okay, and lets…
The problem with this show is that it wasn't finished. In Chai Ji Dan's books, the relationships always start out with an uneven power dynamic and lots of dominance. The stories are about the evolution of the characters and how they deal with relationships through the lens of past hurts and emotional baggage. I've read three of her books and by the end, the relationship always matures into one of mutual love.
To anyone who has watched this or is considering it, read. the. books....they're easy to find translated online. This series is really just an appetizer and covers only a portion of book one. The full story ends when the boys are about 30 if I remember correctly. I watched the series first, then read the books to find out what happens next. Let's just say that BLY's girlfriend goes away and she has PTSD. The characters as portrayed by Timmy and Johnny are perfect. You can literally see them in the books. The whole time I was reading, I kept thinking to myself that there's no way on earth the books could be produced as a television series as written. The sex is very graphic (and hot!) and their adventures would require the budget of a super hero blockbuster, the things they do are just so outlandish. This is the first BL series I watched so it will always be special to me, even though it ends with no resolution. And yes, Guhai is that possessive......no-even more-in the books.
I hope all of my fellow MDL-ers don't hate me for saying this, but this was a big meh for me. I didn't really sense any chemistry/sparks between Kijima and Kuzumi, Kijima was indifferent at best throughout the whole thing. The only sexual activity that was shown was M/F, all M/M other than kissing was implied which I found ironic for a gay series. I'm going to watch Mood Indigo to try and gain some insight into Kijima's behavior, but after watching this my expectations are pretty low. OK I just completed the whole series and three movies, so I felt compelled to edit my comments. Mood Indigo adds so much color (ha ha) to Kijima and his relationship with Kido. Playback was just incredible, it provides what we were longing for with ALL of the chemistry. Both of the short films add additional details that flesh out the story nicely. Now that I've seen the whole thing I'm completely satisfied with this series. π₯°
