this drama teaches you the importance of being kind. ji bozai cares for his master because of her kindness, situ ling fell in love with ming xian because of his (her) kindness, fu yue fell in love with situ ling because of his kindness, yan xiao is loyal to lord hanfeng because of his kindness. man if only real life was like that lol
i love ji bozai's character and seeing how hurt he was by ruo shui's end. it's rare for me to see a drama where the male lead deeply cares about a female character who isn't the female lead

thanks for sharing! i love when he sings in cantonese
an acquantaince of mine said she and her brother (who doesn't even watch asian dramas) loved this show, so i went into this with somewhat high expectations.
well........ it was entertaining at the start. and then—dull and repetitive. FL makes food, character eats food, character metaphorically goes into heaven because of how good food tastes, character compliments FL. rinse and repeat. like they really couldn't give FL more personality beyond amazing chef or dive deeper into the many other characters? don't even get me started on the roughly THREE episodes dedicated to a cooking competition 🥱
i saw some complaints about the acting but to be fair, the characters here weren't complex to demand stellar performances anyway so i won't criticize that aspect (like the typical female villain who exists solely to mess with FL since ML doesn't love her). i'll give lee chaemin his flowers though, particularly in the last few episodes.
however, what i will criticize is the romance! i am not convinced by the love story as it felt superficial and rushed. the idea of mangunrok was so romantic and i loved it (i'm a sucker for yearning) but when you don't feel the chemistry/love, it's just like... eughh you know?
although it seems like it, i'm not hating—i'm just disappointed.

thanks for sharing all these! i wish there's an eng subbed version but that's okay; i can just appreciate his voice haha
i hate situ ling's actions but i can't bring myself to hate situ ling himself. really wish he met fu yue instead of ming xian back then..
