One of the best Japanese films I've seen so far. Such a powerful performance from Nakatani herself, as well as Kurosawa. I love how the story was conveyed in a colorful, fancy-like manner with upbeat musicals despite how poignant it actually was.
First half was great. Somehow I was rooting for the characters. But after that, it got lost with the dramatic side plots to add conflicts to already cheating ML. It could've been shorter and more focused to the main plot, but towards the end, their longingness was prolonged that I was just waiting for it to be over.
Love the intro animation! it's cute, but the lyrics is sarky lol. Same with the musical in the second half, it's amusing how they narrated his grim past like a fairy tale theatrical show haha
First half was interesting, its pacing was good - you get to set your mind right away that it's weird (employee koala in a relationship, few more animals lol) then suddenly it became thrilling. I didn't expect they would project an adorable animal like that. But the sequences turned confusing... from what I got, the culprit(s) did some manipulation but Koala wasn't innocent too, so I don't get why it became peaceful in the end...
Also, the prison uniform reminds me of The Boy in Striped Pajamas making the vibe even darker. Plus the ending turned into wildlife issues so somehow it throws a commentary about it.
I love Episode 4 coz the girls were just chatting more naturally than FL & her friends haha. They eat well too so I really enjoyed that one. This drama is all about indulging your meal to every essence of it. FL is so carefree with the way she eats, and as long as she can savor until the last drop of her drink, she is happy xD It also ends with info about the places she dines in each episode so it's helpful for those who want to visit!
In fairness to this original or first adaptation, I heard that it was the closest to the novel. True enough, the execution was good. It was easy to follow and Takayama's explanations were precise. My only gripe is that, the nudity was unnecessary and repetitive at times. I mean, in the following series, Sadako wears long sleeves 🙄
