Every country believes that their ethnicity is superior, but most received a hard lesson. For example, Nazi Germany…
Thank you for this insightful post. It certainly shed some light as to why these 3 countries (China, Japan, Korea) have serious underlying prejudice against other races, especially of colors. For example, I'm a half Chinese half Indonesian descent, people always find it hard to believe I'm a Chinese due to my darker skin tone because they always regard the darker skin tone as inferior to the fair ones, especially the Chinese because they do not want to associate their race with such inferior connotation, hence the obsession in Asian countries to have fair skin. It's sad that we grow up in such an environment accepting it as a fact/reality without knowing the implication behind such mindset.

Honestly there were some parts that were a bit off color and borderline offensive but it doesn't last that long.
I don't like to FF because buildup and progression of feelings matter a lot to me. 30 episodes isn't so bad, I think I can get through it, hopefully not as irritated as you were when I get there.
On Clean with Passion for Now Jul 6, 2020
Binge watched 5 episodes in one sitting, the first two episodes were wacky and hard to get through because of all the secondhand embarrassments I felt for the FL, but it gets better as the ML and FL settled into the same workplace, setting up for more chance of encounters and budding relationship. I couldn't get past the age difference when this first came out but now that I've seen 5 episodes, I actually feel it's not as bad as I thought it'd be. The main leads actually look good together. And for a OTP that's not yet together, they sure kiss a lot, that's a bonus.

Good to know. I also remember you said this is the one with the hot kiss scenes? Lol.

Title Backstreet Rookie Spoiler
i thought this drama will be a stress buster but i felt really emotional seeing SB and DH's mother together..…
I cried a little when Saet Byul choked up in front of Dae Hyun's mom and admitted it had been a long time since anyone did that for her, and when she brought Eun Byul out of their aunt's house determined to raise her on her own.

As for Yeon Joo and Dae Hyun, it's clear they like each other a lot but they're not making enough effort to stay together. She's not willing to date openly and he's not pushing for more. It makes sense why this relationship is doomed from the start, although I really love the fact that Dae Hyun was willing to consider Yeon Joo's opinion on whether to keep Saet Byul or not.

why is puppy in the guest star category? he is clearly not going anywhere for at least 2-3 episodes more..
He's credited as a special appearance on SBS official page, that's why he's barely on screen and chances are bowing out next episode. However, as this is live shooting, if there's enough demand for his character, there's a tiny chance they could extend his appearance, but that might risk ruining the flow of the story. I personally like him with Saet Byul but a relationship between them would be a repetition of Dae Hyun and Yeon Joo's current relationship, it's clear he's unable to make time for Saet Byul due to his rising popularity.

It's true this drama starts out awful with its over-the-top characterizations (eg. Saet Byul is an extremely violent girl), sexual innuendos that are uncomfortable to watch, the blatant portrayal of racism, the list goes on. In fact, episode 1 is plenty enough to discourage any viewers. I'm not even gonna pretend I'm watching this for any other reason than Kim Yoo Jung, maybe a little for Kim Min Kyu, the cameo guy who resembles Park Bo Gum so much they're giving me the MDBC feels all over again. By episode 6, I can see the show finds its footing and being mildly watchable. Some issues are being addressed and explained, which gives a dimension to the characters than what was shown in the premise, though that doesn't mean it's all sunshine and rainbows now.

I understand how this show is triggering and alarming many people, I don't disregard its many issues but I personally find it tolerable. Everyone has a right to an opinion but the amount of passive-aggressive comments in this thread to discredit/invalidate how we each feel about the drama is really discouraging. There's no shame in enjoying a show that people abhor, and there's nothing wrong with expressing what offend you in a show. So please, treat others the way you want to be treated.

I love all the youngins in this drama, I might not relate to their romances but I'm rooting for their happiness, including Qing Ci and Yun Luo, I'm just tired of their back and forth. I hope the show moves on and excels on what it does best instead of magnifying its weakness in developing the romance.

I'm a little embarrased to admit I'm not familiar with the original source coming from a Chinese household. I've heard of Dongfang Bubai a lot as a kid, I just wasn't interested in it. I'm here purely to check out that one young actor lol. Thank you for your recommendation, I will def check this one out.

Agreed, good on her. The girls are strong in this drama, they know what they want and they to pursue it without reservation, i.e. Mu Lian, Man Qing, Jiang Er, and now Yun Luo.

Really? I saw from one of the BTS that they were using audio/mic equipments, except for some who were dubbed, I think most of the actors' voice were recorded on the spot.

Your review piqued my interest, putting this on my to watch list. I want to check this out for Zhao Lu Si, already am aware of her acting range so it doesn't bother me, I'm only slightly triggered by the word "stalk" and "harassment". I have a low tolerance for obsessive/stalkerish behavior so I hope this part wouldn't be too overwhelming.

Oh, that's...uncommon. It's a shame, I'd love to hear his real voice, although the voice actor did great too, his voice matched Han Shou's character/face. Su Mu, on the other hand, gave me a seizure every time he opened his mouth.

"I'm going to pull my hair out if I see another "tear dramatically trickles down character's face as love interest walks away in slow motion with dramatic music blasting in the background" scene for the rest of the year."

LOL, good luck with that.

I don't wanna hear another "we're through" from Yun Luo ever again, I'm sick of this back and forth. Seriously, I get depressed when I see Qing Ci and her on screen, I used to love these two!

Yeah, I don't even want to delve into that. All these pinings and crying over lost love turned me off, I don't even feel anything when Xie Li died, shame because I liked his character but all the emotional development left me feeling dry.

I'd like to add that it's awesome to hear the actors' real voice instead of dubbing, although some are dubbed, it adds to the characters' charm, especially Zhao Lu Si. Patrick Quan/Su Mu's dubbing on the other hand, kept giving me the chill, so props to that?
