I must be the only person who realized he found them both at the end....she was cooking the noodles and his brother…
I agree. The ending was happy. I think that viewer disappointment with the ending is for two reasons.
1) They only show the joy on the ML face as the FL serves his noodles, but they don't show her face. So, despite the letter she wrote, she ultimately stayed with him.
2) I don't think that everyone watched to the end to see that the brothers are reunited. There are out takes at the end of each episode while the credits role, and then each segment ends (after the credits!) with another scene from the episode. If you don't keep watching, you miss the reunion between the two ML brothers.
Both reunion scenes are only a few seconds, so easy to miss!
This drama is not a block buster. It's a low budget film with apparently a single sponsor. The product placements do get a little old. Plus, the drama is flawed in a lot of ways. But, it's not terrible. The current 7.1 rating on MDL is a bit low in my opinion. It should be trending at least a little bit higher ( 7.4 - 7.6 range).
If anyone is looking for Xiao Zhan. He does a cameo in the first two minutes as a dancer in the opening village dance. He's in the front row of line dancers, just left of center for the most part. I watched it in hi-def (Amazon streaming purchase) on a big screen, otherwise I would have missed him.
Also, he's not the only X-NINE member in the movie. There's a bunch. Maybe someone else with sharper eyes than mine can tell us the other members that had cameos in the movie or maybe just tell us if anyone is missing? Anyone up for the challenge? :)
Their singing is aweful! I saw a horrible trailer for this on Netflix, but decided to check it out on MDL anyway to see if it had any redeeming qualities. Thanks everyone for confirming my suspicions. I'm going to pass on this one.
I know, right!?!? I'm on episode 18, thinking that it must not be many more episodes before the main leads finally…
Yeah, I'm good with them waiting (I doubt she is even 20, probably more like 16-17) as long as they talk about it. It's like the elephant in the room that they are pretending not to see. They even know that it's an issue that other people care/talk/scheme/take action about, and they act as a team to deal with those situations. That makes it even more strange that there is little to no dialog about the progression of their relationship. Those closest to them (their servant/friends) try to talk to them about it. She says, I know what to do. He just threatens to punish or marry off his aides (half jokingly). The writers are showing us that the topic is off limits (for now). So we don't even get dialog to explain it to the viewers, much less between the couple.
I'm almost to episode 25 now. The main leads continue to grow closer, despite seemingly being pulled apart. He's completely in love. She's falling in love. Hopefully, one of them breaks the ice on the topic soon.
Thanks for the chat and letting me vent! I see your Untamed photo. Loved that drama! I've watched it at least 7, maybe 10 times, including last week (I quit counting)! :)
The sword n the brocade 2021, the main heroine of the girl in this TV series is really very disappointing…
I know, right!?!? I'm on episode 18, thinking that it must not be many more episodes before the main leads finally consummate their marriage. So I check the recaps to see how much longer... it's not until episode 35!!!
I'm all for building a strong foundation in relationships, but this is ridiculous. I'm hating the writers right now!! They are doing a great job of building trust between the main couple. It's obvious that they are going to be rock solid in every other way. That just makes it even more ridiculous that they continue to sleep in separate beds. The ML is in love with his wife (he always stands firm in defending and caring for her), and keen to make it happen between them. But he never says anything to her, and leaves at the slightest excuse from the FL. It just doesn't fit the story line, and I can't see any reason for it. I mean, he already has children with other women that he doesn't even like! The FL is his fifth wife!
This is a very low budget and boring film. I suffered through every second of it because all websites that mention this film claim that Li Yifeng is in a main role. Must have been another Li Yifeng because he wasn't anywhere to be seen in the film I watched. Also, I am not even sure that Sun Boyang was in the movie either.
Maybe I watched the wrong movie? If I'm wrong, please lead me to the correct film!
This was really good! Thank you Productive Procrastination (P>P)for the subs!
Now I wish the cast list credits for some of the secondary actors was available. I really want to know the actor that plays the royal astrologer. He's definitely not a guest and should be in the credits. There are several others that should be credited too.
Its a tragedy but if you stop watching at 60 its an open/happy for now ending but you won't know what happens…
PeachBlossomGoddess... Are you talking about the book having a sad ending, the drama or both? What is sad about it. I'm very confused.
I haven't watched the full drama or read the book. But the drama looked so good and I was upset to find out it had a sad ending. Then I watch the last few minutes of episode 60 and the ML and FL are together at the end. It's a beautiful, peaceful, contented scene. The episode 60 synopsis on Amazon Prime reads: Xiao Dingquan's uncle wins the war, but he is ambushed by the enemy on the way to the palace. Xiao Dingquan eventually stays with Lu Wenxi.
If the two main leads end up together, what is the sad part? Spoil me please! I won't have the courage to watch otherwise.
This is available on iQIYI app/website. However, the most disappointing thing about this movie is how iQIYI butchered the English subs. As an example: 娘 niáng translated as "daughter", when the son is clearly calling for his mother. All the names are butchered, too. Must have been an autobot translation. Hopefully, this will get corrected. Otherwise, the movie is light entertainment for the most part. There is a good moral to the story and the emperor learns and grows from his experience. The battles get better and better throughout the movie as the story builds. And... the end is happy! NOTE: If you are coming to this movie because of The Destiny of White Snake (2018), be warned that this is not a continuation of the drama. It is only loosely based on that story. Here the jaded emperor has sat on his throne for millions of years under the watchful eye of his queen mother. He's spoiled and bored and in serious need to adjust his attitude and his life. This is what the story focuses on.
Thank you this excellent write up! Your assessment is spot on, in my opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this drama right down to the last plot twist. Also, it does better with the second viewing. You probably won't want to watch it over and over, but a second viewing is well worth your time. I also agree about the possible second season. It could be wonderful or ruin the whole thing - even souring your view of what happened in the first season. Also, I'm pretty invested in the characters/actors. If too many are recast, it won't work for me.
Can someone help me with the translation? Is it really Purple Palace (Ghost/Demon Tribe)? I've tried looking up the chinese characters and come up with nothing for the color purple. Help please!
Just finished the drama. Wow, so many kisses!!! Fang Yi Lun (Alen Fang) sure can kiss! I had my doubts about him as the lead at first, since I'd never seen him before. But, he definitely delivered! Props to Ling Mei Shi in her first role, and first leading role. She was wonderful! I'm looking forward to seeing more of these two. Kudos to the other supporting cast, too. Overall, a wonderful drama with a HAPPY ENDING! :)
It's only 70 seconds long.
