At the extended scene (OTP reunited after losing their memories of each other) when FL celebrated ML's 28th bday,…
I agree with your comment.
Everything about this show is great but the large age gap in the extra scene is too weird.
I don't think they were in a relationship yet, but it seemed LZW already liked HYX since he looked so happy when she brought the cake, which means he must have started to like her when she was a teenager. I'm closer to LZW's age and falling for a teenager is just unthinkable.
I understand LZW looks young for his age and his personality is a bit childish, but it still feels wrong.
It is the same old stew like we got fed in about a felt 1000 drama series over the bygone two or three years and…
You must be good with languages! I watch Chinese and Korean dramas and only picked up small phrases and some words of both. Definitely not enough to follow the story unsubbed.
Also I'm curious about what you said that "pale-faced guys look more and more European". Which actors are you referring to? I guess, I just don't see it. I can only think of one minor actor in Ashes of Love who looks decidedly European-ish. The rest of them all look Chinese to me with various skintones and such.
Yeah, all these actors are looking more and more like sculptures from the time they start their acting career.…
Yeah, it's true American actors also get plastic surgery. People around the world do it just to fit some restrictive ideas of beauty.
I'd also like to see more diverse, more average depictions in Chinese media. Of course, I'm okay with double-eyelid, fair-skinned Chinese if they have those traits naturally, but it looks strange if it's obviously plastic.
Btw, they usually have straight or flat noses, not a Roman nose 'cause Roman means hooked, lol.

"Faces like Americans"? Umm, okay. Not all Americans have big eyes and slender faces. Conversely, some Chinese and Koreans have big eyes and slender faces without any plastic surgery. I think this kind of stereotyping and idealizing (in this case, Asian patients seem to think all Caucasians look automatically good, lol) does more harm than good.
I agree they should include less plastic-looking actors, though. It's judgemental of me but it feels strange to look at close-up shots of an actor and see an obviously plastic feature.

Because of traditional beauty ideals that date waaay back. The preference for fair skin is maintained to this day. But I live in a country with solariums, so no judging here, lol.
His changed voice bothered me so much that I looked up information about it. One Chinese article I read with the…
The article was posted before the first episode was broadcasted and now I can't find it anymore among the new search results. I came across it on Baidu by typing in 月上重火 配音.
Why did they change his voice? It's distracting. Is it dubbed? For now the first 12 episodes didn't get me hooked.…
His changed voice bothered me so much that I looked up information about it. One Chinese article I read with the help of a dictionary said, his real voice didn't match the role he plays, that's why they chose a deeper-voiced voice actor to dub it. A Twitter fan account speculates it's because the broadcast of this drama was rushed, hence there was no time for the actor to dub his own character.
I'm aware dubbing is normal practice in C-dramas. But since we're used to his real voice, it's strange to hear a different voice coming out of his mouth.
After Addicted he got the title of "National husband", but people who didnt watch addicted, but have heard about…
I'm not a hater or anti but how can you say there's no proof? There's proof out there, with photos and screenshots. But whether they're real or made-up (photoshopped), I don't know because I can't read Chinese well and look up the original sources.
I can't believe Yunxi哥 actually took on a BL project. I'm not into BL but it's Yun Xi so it's definitely a must…
Considering the censorship for homosexual content, can this drama really be called a BL project? I don't really understand how C-drama fans use that word, to be honest. I was once an avid reader of Japanese BL comics and "Boys Love" usually refers to obvious, unambiguous romance between two male characters.
Honestly I don't ship those two after watching Ashes of Love.
Yep, I finished Ashes of Love not too long ago and it's strange to imagine these two as a couple. Moreover, the second male lead in this drama played the lover of the female lead in the other drama, haha.
How many dramas did this actress had as a modern girl traveling into the past? And in none of them she was brilliant…
Well, it's hardly the actors' fault if the scriptwriters and authors write dumb characters and annoying love triangles. I don't think choosing these kinds of roles reflects badly on their acting styles.
But, I'd also like drama writers to come up with more intelligent (female) characters and plots.
A lot (I mean a LOT) of Chinese actresses, especially young, get plastic surgery as a given now. The double-lid…
That doesn't really have anything to do with this actress because plastic surgery isn't the reason she looks "not Chinese". I found some old photos of her and even though she looked a bit different in the past, she already looked mixed to begin with.

Can I ask if you're a native Chinese speaker or did you learn it and watch it subs?
