The only project of his I've watched all the way through was Aogeba Toutoushi, and I loved it! Definitely would recommend it if you're into character development and seeing a group of misfits improving themselves with the help of an awesome teacher. Tried to watch Peach Girl (never read the manga), but I couldn't finish it. Totally agree with you about Mackenyu being the lead.
I'm a huge fan of the first Pacific Rim movie, so when I heard Mackenyu was going to be in Uprising, I knew I had to see it in theaters. I'm disappointed Guillermo Del Toro isn't the director for the second one, but I'm hoping it'll at least be a fun ride (and that Mac has a good amount of screen time heh).
Suda Masaki is gorgeous in my eyes! I'm excited for My Little Monster! :D Since you mentioned Yamaken and Mackenyu,…
You have great taste! Haha
And yes I am! I'm not completely caught up atm, but I've been really enjoying this character Yamaken has taken on. It's quite different from any of his previous roles, and it's fun to watch him try something new! How are you liking it? :)
Love the list! I was hoping to see Suda Masaki on here, though I understand his looks are a bit more...unique than the rest of the guys on this list? He's definitely my favorite Japanese actor (he's just so good!) I can't wait to see him as Haru in My Little Monster. He was the perfect casting.
From your list, my favorites are Yamaken and Higashide Masahiro. The first time I had heard of the latter was from the Ao Haru Ride adaptation and thought (still think) he looked way too old for Kou. He wasn't really on my radar until I had seen him with shorter hair. He's just...so handsome. My weakness would be his height!! As for Yamaken, like you said, it seems like a lot of non-fans are getting sick of him, but I don't think I could ever! His visuals are so unreal. Definitely worthy of being the prince of shoujo. Also love Mackenyu!
I binged this drama in about three days and regret nothing. I only wish I could rewind time and do it all over again. The chemistry between Doona and Seungwoo is no joke! I hope we get a season 2 with the same main characters.
I'm loving this drama! The three main ladies are awesome, and Nami and her husband are a great pairing. If you're debating about whether or not to give this drama a try, please do! And thank you to HPriest for subbing all the episodes :)
I'm so heartbroken by this. He was such a positive presence. This hit me harder than some recent celebrity deaths.…
You managed to eloquently summarize all of my thoughts in one paragraph. Thank you for that. It hit me especially hard since I've been rewatching season 3 of 2d1n recently and have been reminded of just how great of a casting he was. I can't say I've been watching s3 since the beginning, but I started in 2015, and have anticipated every Sunday/Monday (accounting for the it takes to sub) for my weekly new episode of 2d1n. The cast and crew have cheered me up immensely during tough times, so I will forever be thankful of Kim Joo Hyuk's influence on my life, as well as the rest of the members.
the whitewashing itself is enough for me not to watch it but lmao i'm not surprised it's bad at all.
@jaded14yaoi, I totally agree. As an Asian American, it's so disappointing to see people excuse whitewashing because they default Americans as white. What am I then? An anomaly? Sure Asian Americans are a minority, but we DO exist, and it would have been so gratifying to see them cast an Asian American for the roles of at least either Light or Misa (Mia in this verison), especially considering the story they're adapting is so rich in Japanese folklore and culture. The story also took place in Seattle, where Asians are the second biggest percentage of the city's racial makeup after whites. And I'm personally from a part in California where Asians are everywhereee. Although I will say, if they had just completely remade Death Note into an American version with brand new characters and a brand new plot, I would have been much more forgiving. You can't just take the original idea, keep many of the original, notable (Asian) characters (minus L), and expect people not to compare it to the source material.
Great article! I knew a few of the cases were based on true stories, but never knew which ones. You summarized each of the cases really well. Each of these crimes make my blood boil though ugh.
Am I the only one annoyed by Ae Ra's ultimatum? I understand where she's coming from; she wants to protect him from the dangers of fighting, and it must be crazy difficult to watch someone you love fight for a living (like, I def can't watch UFC/MMA matches), but to love him means to support his dream? He even implied that if he went back to a life without fighting, he probably wouldn't even want to live. It's sad that she made him choose between her and fighting. Her stubbornness is really aggravating to watch, but at least the writer is keeping her character consistent? lol
From your list, I've only watched Nigehaji and Boku Unmei no Hito Desu and I really enjoyed both. I love how easy they were to watch, and the number of episodes was perfect! Doesn't make them feel too dragged out.
I'd also recommend Jimi ni Sugoi. It's not as romance focused, but I'd say it's enough to qualify as rom-com. Etsuko is an awesome character and Suda was great as her love interest.
I've been wanting to watch Please Love the Useless Me, but I've heard mixed reviews. Maybe I'll give it a try anyway because I like the manga.
What is going on? why there are so many bad comments? Goblin is one of the most beautiful, well made, well played…
There's always an influx of negative comments on this page. It's almost like it's orchestrated lolol. But no worries, it's still rated a 9.1, which means the negative comments are just from a loud minority :)
I've fallen in love with just the first episode alone. I'm a sucker for detective dramas with hints of comedy that include a team with specialized members. I can't wait to see more of Shun and Hidetoshi together!
