The ending in this drama was well tied together. They dropped a lot of hints in the first and last episodes, and even throughout the drama to give it a cohesive happy ending. The most important thing is that they recognized each other in the modern world, and that signals the start of their 4th life time together. But of course it would be nice if they extended the modern arc even more, but censorship won’t allow for that. I hope they have a modern drama together.
I think some international viewers didn’t understand the end. It’s actually a rebirth loop that tied together the first and last episode. The timeline is that sima jiao arrived first. He established the company and named it Sanshan (three holy mountains) technology, with a focus on resort investment, and also named the project qinggushan. He had been planning for years, while waiting for Zou yan. Zou yan slept in the hospital for one night, recovering her memories, and upon waking up, she was supposed to meet him. He rejected other proposals, and was waiting for hers instead. So in their meeting, they both recognized each other (she verbalized it and he smiled at her) and it was the start of their 4th life time together.

This drama is a weird one. Some cases are quite interesting, while some are a slog to get through. Overall, it’s a good watch but I didn’t find it so engaging. I usually binge investigative dramas like this within a few days but it took me several weeks to finish this drama.
The main lead, Lu Linfeng was smart and very good with martial arts, but he was really arrogant initially. He lost everything at some point and eventually became humble. I liked his character arc. His love interest Pei Xijun was also a spoilt brat who was obsessed with him initially, but she eventually mellowed down, and towards the last third of the drama, she became one of my fav characters. Su Wuming is the typical very smart and funny detective with great people skills, and he remained like that till the end of the drama.
One of the glaring weak point of this drama was the romance. I eventually warmed up to Lu Linfeng and Pei Xijun’s relationship, and even thought they were cute together with time. But I was shocked the drama decided to insert a “romance” between Su Wuming and Yingtao. First of all, he was too old for her, and there was no chemistry whatsoever. Infact Yingtao was believable as his daughter, so when they made her the one taking the initiative in the relationship, it was so uncomfortable to watch, I skipped those scenes. Otherwise, this is a slow but good watch.
The reason everyone hated the second half was because Sima Jiao is the weakest in this arc. He was so heartbroken…
Yea, but I didn’t find it annoying because even though he was trying to reconcile the spirit fires, his power wasn’t nerfed. Everyone was still scared of him, and he ended the immortal demons war in one min, and still captured demon cities at that. No one could actually touch him, and the only reason Frost fish TY could actually stab him is because he let her do it.
Rewatching episode 27, after she took the thunder tribulation for him to let him recover, then they were making out in his soul manor, everything about that scene is so sensual. It’s not even just the kisses, it’s everythinggggg! The way he was nuzzling her face and their noses were just caressing each other, the way they sat with his head on top of hers, his big hands literally cupping her whole neck (positive the director just wanted to show off AC’s lovely hands in this drama). The effortlessly natural intimacy the main leads had in this drama is just unmatched. Usually when a couple gets together in Cdramas, it just becomes boring. But in this drama, their chemistry became even more intense when they got together..as it should be.
Anytime I hear the ost of this drama on tiktok, I just feel so nostalgic and go back to watching clips of this couple or Sima jiao’s hands and feet 😩. I miss when Cdramas had 70-80 episodes.
