Ep 11 thoughts: - Who the hell is Bok Gil and why is he being mentioned so much. He definitely is either the Imoogi or connected to its origin. Taluipa killed BG’s wife who was possessed by a ghost causing calamity and that’s why he committed suicide. - Shin Ju would be a great house husband. Loving his chemistry with the Russian fox. She’s soo pretty too. - I knew it Blackie was being abused by his parents/stepdad. - Love Yeon and Ji Ah’s open communication in this episode esp when she tells him exactly about her dilemma - Rang looks super depressed in this ep, I just want to give him a hug. - This butler is so dodgy - I wouldn’t be surprised if he has his own agenda. - Loving Ji Ah’s backbone in this episode - it feels like we’re getting back her feistiness from the earlier eps. - Does CoffeeBay have a deal with K-dramas lol. I’ve been seeing them a lot on other k-dramas. - Okay, I get the whole Rang being angry thing. Yeon, whilst someone who shows tough love can be a bit dismissive, esp. when it comes to Rang’s vulnerability about his abandonment issues. - Oops okay. I knew it Rang had a plan. - Ew the Imoogi kissing Ji Ah’s hand. - Soo excited for Ep 12! I feel like this drama has finally found its footing.
This BTS of the kiss scene in Ep 9 or 10 can't remember exactly which is oozing with chemistry at least for me (don't ruin my vibe lol) at 1:01. See : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMIh95MZmrs
LDK kisses Bo Ah and she makes a surprised noise. I think LDK was trying to teach her how to do the scene but looks like he initiated a kiss out of the blue hahaha.
Hmm he made a comment that he'd be living a long life and that the slave contract he entered into was helping out in the underworld but are we really sure that that's the contract? In any case, even if he's not required to sacrifice himself, by virtue of his loyalty to Yeon, he probably will. :'(
Like with every show, there are things I like and things I dislike here... But what really frustrates me is WHY…
Hmm that's a good point but is it just a lack of English equivalent in terms of translation? I know some languages use referrents as opposed to repeating the name over and over.
I came across another theory today as to why Ji Ah is immune to the Imoogi's mindreading and to Yeon's hypnosis. So as we know that this drama is based on Korean mythology Ji Ah is based on Princess Bari who is apparently a shaman's daughter. There are many versions of the story but I think this explains it best why Ji Ah is desired by the Imoogi.
Lol. Apparently there is a theory that the Imoogi is the son of Taluipa/Gatekeeper lady. If that's true then that…
In a previous episode he was mentioned to have killed himself. Killing yourself means you can't be reincarnated. If the gatekeeper's son is not an important character, why would they have mentioned that? Quoting a theory from MindMeltonABun on tumblr:
"Taluipa’s Son/Bok Gil = The Imoogi
As previously mentioned, I had theorized that Taluipa’s son, Bok Gil, must have been one hell of a powerful being given that his mom was a powerful Goddess herself. As to what those abilities could have been, it is still a mystery. However, I feel like his powers would’ve been connected the ones Taluipa had (i.e birth, fate, and ability to see what others cannot see). Again, not much was mentioned about him other than he committed suicide and that his name was Bok Gil.
Now let’s look at the Imoogi, we know that he has the power of life (bringing the bird back to life), death (sucking the life out of his nannies), and rebirth (being reborn as that boy).
If you think about it, when Bok Gil committed suicide, his soul/body was neither in the land of the living nor the dead. He was in between those two realms or in limbo. Connecting this to the fact that the Imoogi said he was born in a place between the living and dead, there is a significant possibility that Bok Gil is indeed the Imoogi. Furthermore, if you look at the kinds of power the Imoogi has and the powers that Taluipa has, you will find that they are strangely similar or related. If that doesn’t convince you enough then just compare the voice of Bok Gil to that of the Imoogi!"
I mean after knowing what really Imoogi wants i am like...."Really boy" , you just want Lee Yeon's body so that…
Lol. Apparently there is a theory that the Imoogi is the son of Taluipa/Gatekeeper lady. If that's true then that might have some impact on why the Imoogi wants to covet something that is supposed to have been his. I still don't know what he means by that but it would be interesting to know how he became the Imoogi.
This is why communication matters lol. But it's so hard to sit down and chat to be honest.
Same. It feels like they might go with that BUT I do hope he gets to redeem himself before he makes the ultimate sacrifice. Apparently there is foreshadowing according to the one scene where the Underworld lady was holding a book (?) about two brothers paralleling the brothers' current relationship with each other.
idk if it's just me but i think ji-ah fell for lee yeon too quickly/abruptly? at this point, I'm rooting more…
Yes, it's exactly what I've been saying. I was thinking that we'd get a few episodes after episode 2 where there is a push/pull between them and where she takes some time before she finds him. I really enjoyed the vibes during the first two eps because it was thrilling. Slowing it down for the romance plot and having them, or her, fall into insta love after ep 4 and finding the fox bead is probably what's hurting the romance.
My main critique would be that her traumas while still valid feel a little shallow. The romantic thread of how two people fell in love is missing and the show relies too much on the chemistry of the past to establish how they fell in love at present time. I'm not sure if the FL actress is a weak actress. I think it might just be the writing being poor when it comes to executing a stronger world building with clear rules of who gets punished or not, and not just arbitrary decisions by the "Immigration Office"; underutilising the side characters even the vet and the Russian, as well as the co-workers - I think a greater thread of connecting their stories to the FL as character background would have probably provided her with greater depth and probably explained her traumas, and why she seemed to cling to Yeon after he showed her interest as she seems to have always been looking for a "stable" base.

Yeah. I think in adult relationships and in my own experience, the more time you let it sit and not talk it out, even if you end up meaning well for the other person, the bigger the problem gets. If Rang ends up having to die as his redemption arc, I hope that he at least gets to call Yeon "hyung" before being stabbed or something.
I always fail to understand the women who just see themselves as a tool to bring another life into this world.…
Hmm it didn't seem to me that she saw herself as a baby making machine. If she did then she would have had kids earlier. I think she is motivated by the happiness she felt being with her mother since her dad left. She seems to have already achieved her goals - she has money, has a secure job, friends.
Really enjoying this so far. It tackles real themes and you feel very sympathetic for the main character. At first the main dude with no emotions was so annoying but I am warming up to him. He is very beautiful when he smiles!

In any case, if Rang dies, at least she'll have the vet hahaha.
