I always feel that douban and mdl have its own pros and cons. With douban, a fluff only drama bears no chance…
Yes, Douban is harder to use, but I agree with Douban ratings more often than I agree with MDL ratings, so at least for me, it's worth putting up with the inconvenience for the sake of getting better recommendations.
One way to browse Douban is to use the "People who like this drama also like" section.
For example, I just looked up "A Love So Beautiful" on Douban. If I scroll down to the similar dramas, most of them are either romance or youth dramas - Put Your Head on My Shoulder, With You, Le Coup de Foudre, etc. By doing that, you can quickly see which dramas in the category have a high rating. The highest rated youth drama is "With You". I haven't seen it, but I watched the trailer and it looks kind of fluffy.
Other dramas that may have made the list if complete English subs were found on my end:- Dream of Red Mansions…
Is it possible to edit the article to add in the dramas that you missed? Or is it too late for that?
I think it would also be a good idea to add streaming links to the article (at least the official ones). 9 of the top 10 have an official stream with English subs. I think Ming Dynasty in 1566 is the only one that's unofficial.
On MDL, the ratings are 9.1 (number 1) to 8.8 (number 10). On Douban, below are their ratings with raters' numbers:Nirvana…
I watched Eternal Love because it had a very high MDL rating (8.9). It's by far the worst C-drama that I've seen. The Douban rating (6.5) seems about right to me.

How do you know it's official? I thought it was unofficial. Usually official channels have a link to an official website or social media page, but this channel doesn't.
"You will notice that while many say that Douban raters are harsh, the MDL ratings on these ten dramas beg to differ."
- If you look at the Douban top 10, and compare to MDL ratings, MDL raters seem harsh. - If you look at the MDL top 10, and compare to Douban ratings, Douban raters seem harsh.
Obviously both methods are biased. Also MDL ratings are weighted, so they can't be directly compared to Douban ratings. I don't think either website is significantly harsher than the other, but it's hard to be sure, since I don't have access to the complete ratings data of each website.
The Reddit post lists every C-drama, TW-drama, and HK-drama rated 8.0 or higher with at least 20,000 ratings, that has been subbed into English. I included streaming links, if available.
Here's my top 10 J-dramas: 1. Suika (2003) - More people should watch this one! Hardly anyone has seen it but it's amazing. 2. GTO (1998) 3. Long Vacation (1996) 4. Nodame Cantabile (2006) 5. My Dangerous Wife (2016) 6. Hero (2001) 7. 1 Litre of Tears (2005) 8. Kazoku Game (2013) 9. Jin (2009) 10. 17.3 About a Sex (2020)
The top 100 Asian movies of all time, voted by 140 film professionals. Most of them still have less than 500 watchers. It was published by Busan International Film Festival earlier this year. There's also a list of the best movies since 1996, and the best movies made by female directors.
Thanks for the article. I didn't know much about his life, so it was an interesting read. I've seen 16 of his movies so far. My favorites are (in no particular order) High and Low, Throne of Blood, Seven Samurai, and The Bad Sleep Well. But almost all of them are good, so it's hard to choose.
"I prefer anime over their dramas."If they made a drama only because the anime was popular, they're probably only…
I thought you were talking about dramas based on a manga that was also made into an anime (e.g. Death Note or Ouran High School Host Club), but I guess I misunderstood.
I've tried to get into J-dramas but I couldn't get passed the first episode in the ones that I watched. I prefer…
"I prefer anime over their dramas." If they made a drama only because the anime was popular, they're probably only doing it for money, so it won't be good. I suggest watching some J-dramas that don't have an anime. If you like historical dramas, then I recommend Jin (2009).
I think there are plenty of J-dramas that would appeal to a global audience, but the problem is availability and marketing. Japan doesn't seem to care at all about putting their dramas on streaming platforms like Viki or Netflix.
I got into J-dramas first, and K-dramas later, but I got tired of K-dramas. Japan seems to do most genres better, especially comedy, romance, slice-of-life, and thriller. So far my favorite K-drama is Signal, but I think about half of the J-dramas that I've seen are better than Signal.

Dream of the Red Chamber has been subbed into English, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be on any streaming websites.

Mei Changsu would send a friend request to Edmond Dantes, because I'm sure they have similar taste in dramas.
