Another Czech person here! :DWhen I checked MDL yesterday, I thought I accidentally went to wrong website when…
For anyone who wants more recommendations, here are some of my favorite Czech films:
Happy End (1967) - My favorite Czech comedy. It's one of the most unique movies that I've seen. The entire movie is in reverse, but the narrator doesn't seem to realize that it's in reverse, so he tries his best to make sense of it.
Tomorrow I'll Wake Up and Scald Myself With Tea (1977) - Time travel comedy. (in the comedies folder on the google drive)
Valerie and Her Week of Wonders (1970) - Surreal horror fantasy, with very good cinematography. (in the new wave folder)
Daisies (1966) - One of the best Czech New Wave movies. (in the Vera Chytilova folder)
Panna a Netvor (1978) - One of my favorite adaptations of Beauty and the Beast. (in the Juraj Herz folder)
Three Wishes for Cinderella (1973) - I think this is the most popular Czech fairy tale movie. Directed by Václav Vorlícek, who directed a lot of good comedies, as well as the TV series Arabela. (in the fairy tale folder)
Give the Devil His Due (1984) - Another one of my favorite Czech fairy tales. (in the fairy tale folder)
Carodejuv Ucen (1978) - An animated fantasy/horror movie about a boy who becomes a sorcerer's apprentice. (in the Karel Zeman folder)
oh my gosh, I though your description for the show Arabela seemed familiar and I looked it up. It is the show…
The show about the robot doesn't sound familiar. I don't know what it is, but it does sound like the kind of story I would expect to see in a Czech comedy.
I've only seen 2 Czech TV shows so far. The other one is Návstevníci (1983), and this one is good too. It's about scientists who time travel from the 2400s to the 1900s in an attempt to save the world.
It's on Youtube, but unfortunately there are no subs. I noticed that it stars Vladimír Mensík, the most popular Czech actor of the 60s and 70s. He's a great actor. I've seen 13 of his movies.
If anyone wants to see a great Czech TV show that is available with English subs (starring the same actor, Vladimír Mensík), I recommend Arabela (1980). It's a fun fantasy/comedy series about a princess who escapes from the fairy tale world into the human world.
I really enjoyed reading your article ^^Personally I do try to step out of my confort zone especially when I'm…
I'm not sure what you mean about the Thai language. I've watched 3 Thai dramas so far, and I never felt like they were always shouting. If there are too many harsh scenes, maybe try a different genre. Do you like romcoms? If so, you might like the Thai movie, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love".
It annoys me when people don't step out of their comfort zone, especially if it's something that they never tried, and they're just making false assumptions. I try to give people recommendations outside of their comfort zone whenever I can.
It's not just about genre, but also about country and production year. There are some people who only watch Korean dramas because they think they have better acting or better cinematography than J-dramas or C-dramas (which is completely wrong). Maybe they watched 1 episode of a J-drama or C-drama that wasn't even good, and then they overgeneralize and assume that all of them are like that.
There are some people who refuse to watch any drama more than 5 or 10 years old. There are some people who don't watch dramas at all, because they think anime is better (even though they never watched a drama).
Both seasons are realated? Like watch the 1st season then 2nd? :[
It's mostly episodic, but all of the episodes feature the character Nanno. You'll have a better understanding of who she is if you watch everything, so I recommend watching season 1 first, then season 2.
For anyone who wants more recommendations, here are the highest rated Thai dramas on Douban (with at least 5000 ratings, and not including sequels): I Told Sunset About You - 9.3 Diary of Tootsies - 9.0 SOTUS - 8.8 Theory of Love - 8.7 The Gifted - 8.7 Love Sick - 8.6 He's Coming To Me - 8.6 Dark Blue Kiss - 8.5 Girl From Nowhere - 8.4 Love By Chance - 8.4 Hormones - 8.4 Bad Genius - 8.4 Love Destiny - 8.3 Kleun Cheewit - 8.3 Until We Meet Again - 8.3 A Tale of Thousand Stars - 8.3
I haven't seen any of them, but I do plan on watching them in the future. Thank for you reading my article
I'm a millennial and I loved LOCH 1983. I often see people make comments like "I love it, but it's old, so maybe you won't like it." But of the people who actually watched it, it seems like almost everyone likes it.
This article is clearly written by a Priest fangirl, I get it but please don't be lazy to look at the fact of…
I don't think the lack of a rating system is the issue. It's not like there's anything inappropriate about LGBT relationships. The issue is homophobia. Chinese lawmakers are homophobic, so they don't allow LGBT content.
I don't see how a rating system would change anything. The lawmakers would still be homophobic. For example, Malaysia has a rating system with 4 possible ratings (U, P13, 18, Banned), but they don't allow LGBT content.
Interesting interview. Do you have any more information about the "poll among North Korean refugees"? Did Chosun Ilbo only publish the winner (Hong Kil Dong), or did they publish an entire list of the best North Korean films?

Is Chalupáři available with English subtitles? I couldn't find it.

One of the most famous Huangmei opera movies, The Love Eterne (1963), did the same thing (the ML was played by a woman).
