This drama is so damned good I had to start reading the webtoon and I have to say that so far the drama is WAY better than the webtoon, but it's only the first two episodes and first two chapters so I'll have to wait and see.
I really, really enjoyed this movie a lot! I'll say one thing about Chinese Xian Xia writers and that is they make up the most elaborate and beautiful demon worlds with a dazzling array of monsters, both good and bad, and this movie showcased that skill wonderfully. The characters were all enjoyable, the CG FX incredible, and the fight scenes spectacular.
My only complaint would be that the movie was too short. There just wasn't enough time to really get to know the characters very well so other than the MC, we only get brief histories for the characters that had bigger parts to play in the story. It's a real shame this wasn't done as a series but if it had been, I suspect the CG FX wouldn't have been nearly as well done.
There are so many serious people watching this show getting so angry at the evil family. I think they are so bad it's funny, especially seeing as how they get outsmarted at every turn and it doesnt take a whole drama for them to get their comeuppance. The banter between them all is a riot and the FL and ML already have great chemistry. I am really enjoying this show a lot!
For non spoiler thought, this show has one of the best female empowerment I have seen. I love all the female characters…
Totally agree with you on the female empowerment aspect. It was great with many amazing and strong women. I also agree about Yi Mei and the actress who portrayed her. She was devoid of any emotion throughout the whole drama (because she was a doll, not bad at acting) but in her final scene she really showed her emotions. I was so moved! One of the best death scenes I've ever seen.

I kind of got the feeling that he merged somewhat with XH because XH was a bit different after that. It was like Yan became more like XH and XH became more like Yan. And Yan definitely redeemed himself by doing what he did.
Never again will I read spoilers for a drama before the end because they have scared me away from so many dramas and that would've happened with this one as well. Reading somebody else's idea of a bad ending is not necessarily how I would feel if I'd taken the time to actually watch the drama myself. Lesson learned.
I had a feeling some very important characters would die and that did happen but honestly, it felt right to me. I mean that they didnt seem gratuitous or out of place or happen for no reason.
Because this was all about the tiger and the crane, it makes sense to me that they were the only two of the 4 that survived. I was sad that Xingtong and Brick died, but I also understand why they did.
In order to keep the story about the two MLs, Hu Zi couldnt have a wife so I felt she wouldn't make it from pretty early on in the show. Plus, dying the way she did brought honor back to her sect in a very big way.
Brick had to die in order to use his lotus power and also, if hadn't, after everything was done, he would've had to go be king and he never wanted that. It was a fate worse than death for him.
I really liked the ending. I felt it fit the story. I have read some of the comments and I dont agree that the ending was rushed or weird or crazy. It was all laid out and easy for me to follow and understand.
If I had one thing to complain about, it would be giving all the villains an excuse for their villainy at the very end of the story. Showing the reasons why they're bad all at once at the end feels like a cheap excuse rather than a real reason to feel sorry for the bad guys. It's also way too late at that point for me to feel any sympathy for them. This is a problem with many, MANY shows these days and it's a shame. If the writing was better, we'd learn the reasons why bad guys choose to be bad throughout the story so we can develop some kind of sympathetic understanding along the way.
To sum up, I really enjoyed this show. It was well acted and was very exciting in parts, very sad in others, and I really loved the bromance between Hu Zi and Ice Cube. I think those two would be great in a modern cop drama.
This was really watchable for me. The acting wasnt real smooth for the first 8 episodes or so, but it got much better after that. I've learned to expect the first few episodes of any drama to be a bit rough when it comes to newer actors, but after the cast and crew get more acquainted with each other, things improve and that happened with this drama as well.
I thought the leads were really cute together. They are both very good looking and they had pretty good chemistry.

What I really liked though was the OST. Those smooth, R&Besque songs sung by the same woman, I think, were really, really nice.

There was a nice balance between the touching memories and bloody revenge action. They didnt make the FL into some kind of a superhero that nobody could touch or hurt either. And how she gets her revenge is just so damned good. She didnt mess around. There is no lame monologuing.
I loved the noir feel that was there from start to finish. I think it really fit the story and the characters as well.
The fact that I know that what those bastards did to those girls happens in real life, not just in SK, but all over the world, made it a little difficult for me to fully enjoy the story. Reality kept breaking through the fantasy, making me have to stop and think about how horrible things can be for so many people. The fact that all the men just refer to every woman they talk about or see or control as b!th@s is what I think kept throwing reality in my face. Not sure.
And that old couple were just so great!!! I love that actress. Dont have her name handy at the moment, but she is in a lot of dramas I've seen. I saw her in a completely different role in this movie and she did not disappoint.
If you're looking for a good revenge flick with a gritty, noir feel to it, this is for you.
Half way through episode 10 and the only reason why I keep watching this is because XKC is so freaking HOT! But seriously, the FL character is just detestable. She might improve at some point, but for the first 10 episodes, she sucks.
So far it seems to be, but that could change in later episodes. I dont know anything about this story outside of the drama so Im not sure how it will all go in future episodes.
I am really enjoying this so far. I was not expecting such a heavy bromance, but I am happy to see it. That sword tassel gift and reaction was so darned cute!!! I think this will stay on the bromance path and never go into BL territory, but whichever way it goes, I am invested at this point. I really like the quartet they form and am really looking forward to seeing how all 4 move through the world together, slaying demons. I binged all 6 episodes on iQIYI in one morning.
They mixed two big reveals in the same episode at the same time and unfortunately, one of those reveals didnt get the attention it deserved. I hope they make up for that in the next episode.
Curious how SQ is going to explain the blood. Mensis? Not sure they talk about that kind of thing in Chinese dramas, but that would certainly work with her having a fever and not feeling well and it would definitely embarrass GSJ enough to throw him off pursuing it further.
I'm also not sure how they're going to explain the guards seeing a man fly out of the pros window and seeing WYS there as well. It seems nothing was really done about that and I thought for sure she was caught red-handed because of that.
