Okay granted often I have unfounded gut hunches that end up being pretty controversial, like the fact that I think the 2ML in Lighter & Princess is a closet homosexual, or the fact that I think Lee Sun Kyung probably has an eating disorder, or that 'I Love My President Although He Is A Psycho' is actually a genius drama.
But I have to say, I got this weird vibe from that show like all the actors onset were uncomfortable for some reason. The same vibe you get when you walk in on Thanksgiving dinner, and everyone at the table has been fighting, but then they pretend everything's fine because you showed up and interrupted their fight, so it's like really quiet and awkward? It seemed like everyone was just phoning in their acting performances, like they were distracted, or like the atmosphere onset during filming was oppressive and so they couldn't give full energy to the roles they played? Idk, something about it was just "off". And the storyline was completely uninspired.
Funnily enough, I think My Demon was actually better than Shitting Stars, because at least there's some lively moments in My Demon. Shitting stars is just so.... forgettable.
Just IMO tho.... I mean, some people really liked it, god knows why.

Ohhhh, so like the "Sh**ting Stars" kind of bad.... not like a "worth it for a few laughs" good/bad, but more like an "unpleasant NyQuil PM trip" bad/bad
I gave it a 7. The ML and FL had some chemistry, but they didn't make any use of it, and the kiss scenes are not really anything to write home about... which was clearly to do with the director and not the actors on this one.
The story is interesting enough, and has a lot of potential. The writing was a mix of very smart, and very stupid. The ML had to act two characters, and I think he does a pretty decent job of it. There are big problems with it imo. One, they make a mockery of dissociative identity disorder, just like most shows of this subgenre. In this drama, the DID is supposedly the result of a car accident at the age of about 10, and his one and only alter is a kid who died in that accident. 1000% NOT how DID works. Then at the end, one of the personalities is dissolved without any integration of the two personalities, he just *dissappears*. Again, not how DID works, it can't be "healed" by an alter dissappearing.
In the end, the FL initially falls in love with the alter, and then later she chooses the original personality over the alter, and the alter subsequently leaves. I would have been MUCH happier with an ending where the FL falls in love with BOTH personalities, and they learn how to live together. But I suppose according to Asian Drama Rules, that counts as polyandry and is therefore verboten.
That being said, there were still a lot of good things about the story. I like how there are many scenes where you're not sure which personality is driving, and I like how they portrayed the ML and FL struggling with being truthful and accepting his condition openly. I also liked the tertiary relationships between characters. I like the FL, who is not only beautiful, but also versatile. I've seen her in other things, and it's satisyfing to watch her grow as an actress and continue to improve with each project.
An okay one-time watch, if you don't mind that they really skimped on the spice and kilig.
started off with a lot of promise, and hooked me from the start, but then you find out that the kiss scenes are TERRIBLE, which is not what you'd generally expect from a short length, especially not one calleed 'Slave to Love'.... and the few kiss scenes are right in the middle of the drama, after that you get NOTHIN. Just 45 minutes of plot wrap-up.

The chemistry was there between the ML and FL, and they have some average kiss scenes, but there's also a few very good kiss scenes. Not much kilig, just a little bit. The story is pretty cliche, not a lot of new variations on the theme. The comic relief isn't really on the lol level of funny. The ost/bgm worked with the drama and not against it. But it's solidly acted and solidly directed. The writing could have been a bit better, but it's not bad.
I would have given this a 7.5, which is what I rate things that are a decent watch, but with pretty much no rewatch value and some flaws that are hard to overlook. However, I'm bumping my rating on this up to an 8, because in current year it is VERY hard to find a drama that stays true to it's oldschool roots. This has a very realistic throwback feel to dramas of the 90's and 00's and I find it encouraging that at least some people are still making dramas in the oldschool fashion.
Not the best thing ever, but decent one-time watch with all the little, overlookable shortcomings of an old style drama, and a couple kiss scenes that have a nice spicy kick.
People keep talking about the ending. It WAS a wtf ending, but not in a bad way. The ending didn't ruin anything for me, it isn't bad enough to negate the rest of the show. More like the cherry on top of this vintage-style story.

In my mind I had chalked that up to the fact that for this role the FL has to be proficient in martial arts. It's probably hard to find an actress/martial artist double-threat whose schedule was free for the time of filming.
I also got the sense like maybe there was too much stuff going on on set during the more intimate scenes between them, too many people running around, the director not creating the right atmosphere for them to really let the character's attraction come through. This could especially be true because Kai is a Pisces, and Tian is (probably) a Cancer, and water signs are very sensitive to their environment, they would have a harder time acting in lovey dovey scenes if the set feels "off".
Just guesses, of course, I don't really know.
I think "chemistry" gets bandied about a lot on MDL by younger people who don't have enough love experience of their own to even know what chemistry IS, or what it should look like, and they think just because their hearts go pitty-pat for the ML, that means there's "chemistry". No.... chemistry is when you get the feeling that if the film crew turned the lights off, stopped the cameras and went home, that the ML and FL would still be going at it!

YES! So much this! Way to take a budding romance and just crush it to death, which FL in particular seems perfectly willing to do, but both are guilty of it. They even got mad enough to trade the pearl and the hairpin back. And half the time I don't get why they're both so mad. Neither ML nor FL know how to 'use their words', so their makeups take forever because they refuse to open up to eachother and communicate, they just fume instead and expect the other one to guess why they're mad and grovel. Not kew!!! Not romantic!
