i think the food thing it's because they're supposed to promote korean culture since kdramas + kpop have become…
Idk, I've had korean friends that get really homesick because american food sucks. And I started making korean food, and it's HIGLY addictive if you're cooking it right. There's another thing at play there too:
They have not long risen from poverty as a nation, and for people who still have family generations alive who know what starvation feels like, the whole family kind of focuses around food because it's a symbol of safety and prosperity. My gramma used to tell us stories about being so poor and hungry that once they actually ate sawdust soup. And when she got older, she was obsessed with cooking and baking, and it was her way of showing love.
Another dimension to it: I've seen a lot of those youtube documentaries about Nkorea, and it is BAD up there, they've had waves of famine that are unspeakably horrific. Koreans are big on family, and many families still live with the pain of separation. South Koreans know they might have loved ones literally starving in NoKo. That kind of upset makes you feel guilty about eating. I've seen North Koreans smuggled into SKorea weeping over their food and unable to eat due to guilt. SKoreans as a mass-culture have learned to process this bad feeeling, by being APPRECIATIVE of food, in a way many other cultures are not. They eat enthusiastically because if they were stuck in NKorea, they would want their loved ones who were free from Kim Jong to eat and be well and healthy and not feel guilty about eating.
Food is very very important to koreans on some really deep psychological levels.

I've been cooking and eating about 60% korean food at home for a few years now, and the other day my boss brought in a 2-gallon tub of kimchi along with some other foods, and I was like "KIMCHI!??" and couldn't stop thinking about it all day, how it was yummy and I was going to have a lunch that would go good with a pile of kimchi. But then I got to the break room for lunch, and my dumb american boss had turned the ENTIRE container into a very unappetizing and amateur vat of "kimchi friend rice" and it was so laughable, I felt like Uncle Roger "AIYAAAAA!!! What is that, chili jam?!?! Did you rinse your rice??" And I was so upset that she'd wasted all that yummy kimchi.

Since watcing K-dramas I think the biggest shocks for me are:1. the whole Oppa thing - is he a friend-brother?…
HAVING to drink with your bosses/coworkers... not being able to refuse "team dinners"....

Korea- it surprised me, that their food consist of many separated ingredients in many bowls instead of just one…
omg with the ancient chinese/korean cross-dressing thing, in some of them, she's even wearing lipgloss and shadow/mascara and we're supposed to believe that they all believe she is a male. Come ON. Women have hips, women don't have stubble or adams apples. Women are smaller and have different voices and bone structure. AI can tell a male vs a female face with a 95+% accuracy rate, and that's just AI. People aren't stupid. I have never understood why they rely so much on this trope when it's so ludicrous.

The only thing close to the books thing I have ever experienced here in the US was when a new Harry Potter book…
The Twilight series and the Hunger Games series were really hot too. Also, J.K.Rowling should never be forgiven for killing off a Weasley. Not cool.

Xie wei is the hottest male role, but I think she would be so much happier if she ended up with Yan Lin. She is…
I'm really cheerful and free spirited, and I ended a 5year relationship with a perfect nice guy because it was too tame and predictable of a relationship for me, it started to give me bad claustrophobia. Then I ended up meeting a hot tempestuous "bad boy" type, and we were together for 12 years, and all the way through we were gaga over eachother like teenagers, it never got boring, or predictable at all.

Of course all women are like snowflakes. But just in personal experience, it came down to this: "The only thing worse than a man you can't control, is a man you can."

Not to mention, if you are with someone you think is "better" than you, then you may have landed a man above your level, but you'll always feel A) guilt that you're not as good of a person has he is and B) isolated, because there's parts of your character you don't think your man will ever be able to truly understand and C) Existentially bored.

I know this is completely FICTION, but still I don't understand how could they can describe 'god (???)' like that..…
Or god saying "Love can sometimes be poisonous." Yea no, I don't think so. In fact I can't think of any religion where the god of that religion would ever say that.

or "I am a mere companion on the journey to everything."

It's obvious the writers weren't into theology or philosophy because wow.

Lost my interest after 3 eps...😭😭Someone who finished it- tell me if i should continue and they have a happy…
imo, if you have nothing better to watch, it's an okay one-time-through. But if you have other things you're interested in, I'd give this a miss. It's one of those that could just sit parked on your "Plan To Watch" list until you feel like picking it up. The HE is okay. It's an HE.

Totally unrelated, but I love your profile picture of Cho Seung-woo. Is it from Stranger?
>Song Kang could definitely pull a more mature version of Gu Won if he was given the chance.

YES!! They didn't capitalize on that edge he can exude.

>, brushing shoulders with sketchy people from the human underworld, where he would ultimately find his so called "victims"

gambling dens, nightclubs... it would have been so cool if he sent guys to hell who preyed on women in nightclubs, because that's a RL problem in SK. We could have rooted for him more. He could have gone to racetracks, gangs hanging out at the docks at night, evil business deals in fancy sushi restaurants. But no, he's hanging out at the childrens cancer ward looking for greiving families?!?

>His tragic backstory should've only contributed to him choosing to be a libertine in order to forget all that immense pain, instead of the doleful theatre owner who goes shopping, eats cakes, drinks coffee and watches funny little plays when he's not busy with contracts...

YOURE HIRED!!! <3 <3 <3

LOLLLLL the more I think about it.... he slew all those people and now.... eats cake and takes in a play..... waaaahhhhhhahahahhah.... also. That coffee was the weakest-ass coffee, I watched them drink it and I was like "nooooo! It's gonna taste like shit!" Normally I wouldn't care. If the grandpa from Pinnochio made coffee like that, it would fit his character. But this is the devil we're talking about. The cake snob who wears brooches. That coffee should look PERFECT, rich and dark with a little bit of crema floating on top.

In the end, the producers are the final say-so, they should have stopped the writers from taking that direction in the first place. "So hey, we're gonna have the devil sitting there in shoulderpads and slacks eating cake and---" "Ah, let me just stop you right there, guys."

In the drama, she jokes about him being a pokemon, but that's basically the interpretation of the word "demon" that they went with. They should have called it "My Pocket Monster".

does it have annoying love triangle? i mean i'm fine with love triangle but i had to make sure if main couple…
There is. If it matters to you, the intensity of the triangle is not that strong, it's not as bad as Lost You Forever, BoF, What Happened in Bali etc. The choice it presents the FL with is "good boy" vs "bad boy" basically.

Totally unrelated, but I love your profile picture of Cho Seung-woo. Is it from Stranger?
...with the hammy overacting simpy butler... the overacting sister... and the fact that after they "get together" there's almost like a relief on the part of the production like "whew! finally the steamy kiss scenes are overwith. Let's just have them cuddle sweetly like an old married couple for the rest of the drama".... which doesn't make sense, because they've already kissed, got half naked, and consummated by ep 8 or so. It's already mildly risquee, why the need to reel it in and be tame for the entire back half of the drama? And the way they wrote in the perilla seeds and scallions, you'd think that later in the drama they have some crucial part to play in the plot, but no. They were seriously just there for comic relief. And they didn't even bring a whole lot of that. The gang from Strong Woman Do Bong Soon was hilarious. This one, not so much. The idea was good, but they didn't maximize the comedy they could have gotten out of it.

One of the things I can't get over was the ML in a sweater TUCKED IN to a pair of slacks. With a body like that? The things they dressed him in were borderline criminal. They should have immediately fired his stylist the second he walked on set wearing a silk scarf with a brooch and shoulder pads. Did they find Prince's old stylist from the 90's? What is going ON with that?! All they needed was a pair of tight pants, black boots, and a form-fitting black or white shirt. Maybe a black leather biker jacket. No need to overthink it.

The tango scene in ep 4 is literally the best scene I think I have ever watched in all of the dramas I have seen…
I thought it was one of the most cringe parts of the entire drama, personally. It started and I was like "omg no..." (facepalm). I skipped through a bit of it to get it overwith faster.

well you can't really go wrong with a short-episode c-drama, because it's not a huge time investment. Even if it sucks, one binge-session and youre done.

I don't know why, but the whole execution reminds me of a teen novel adaptation from the 2010s (Fallen, The Mortal…
Part of that is translation issues.... the word 악마 (agma/akma.... which they are pronouncing as "angma" in the drama) can mean the devil OR it can mean demon.

As for the "god" part, I thought it was so cringe that it reminded me of Alanis Morisette playing god in Dogma. Maybe there are translation issues there too, but my Korean is very very spotty, so I wouldn't know one way or the other.

>Never have I seen a more suitable and beautiful Kdrama couple Maybe because you've only seen like 10 dramas?…
If this person's watchlist is accurate, they've only seen about a dozen asian dramas. I am excited for them that they still have so much good stuff out there left to discover. I think if they like this couple, that they'd also like the couple from Devilish Joy. I'm basing this recc off their watchlist and the fact that they liked this onscreen pairing.
