This person’s taste is the exact opposite of mine, lol, so I’m using this list to add to my to-be-watched…
I was debating watching a c-drama called Skip a Beat, and one of the reviews starts out with "GARBAGE. THE ML AND FL DAMAGED THE ENTIRE SHOW."

So immediately I started watching it, ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

of the 5 cdramas I have watched 4 are where ML is a complete simp and just hopelessly in love while FL is alright,…
Oh so you haven't seen all the ones where the ML is an arrogant psychotic megalomaniacal tyrant who GRABS THE FL BY THE THROAT at some point before or during the courtship phase of the relationship? Because that's actually a thing.

I don't know why it's a common trope in c-dramas, do chinese men just every now and then grab their womens by the throat when they're upset about something? Do chinese women really put up with that kind of crap like "oh whatever its ok he was just mad."

BELIEVE me, five c-dramas is NOT enough to generalize about c-dramas.

I've seen almost 50 c-dramas at this point, and what I would generalize is:

When the writers are good, they are better at understanding aberrant and unique psychology, and so their characters are more true-to-life and dimensional. And I'm just saying WHEN THE WRITERS ARE GOOD. Think about the k-drama Kill Me Heal Me, about an ML with multiple personality disorder. The drama APPEARS to treat DID (dissociative identity disorder) seriously, but at the end, the FL is looking forward to being with him to help him heal from his disorder. Well, you don't meet a hot chick and suddenly get healed of DID and have a nice lovely LTR with her. It just don't happen. But then take the c-drama I Love My President Though He's a Psycho, which is BATSHIT CRAZY from start to finish... but as implausible as the story is, the characters are true to life. They behave the way real people might behave if they were in a similar situation. Or take Timeless Love, which is about an ML with "Paranoid Personality Disorder" (is that even a real thing? idk). The ML seems normal at first, and slowly more layers are peeled back and by about 2/3 through you see the true picture, which is YES he has a mental illness, and it really hinders his ability to have a relationship at all. The FL reacts the way many of us would react if we were in love with someone who had a problem like that. So more thought and care goes into the psychology of the characters.

Another generalization I'd make: modern-setting c-dramas have TERRIBLE aesthetic, style, and fashion. They're totally hopeless when it comes to fashion and style, unlike the Taiwanese, who KNOW what cool actually is, and have excellent taste in clothes and hair etc. Modern c-dramas I find depressing because everyone has utterly awful hair, the guys wear mom-jeans, everyone's shirt is tucked in wrong, everything meant to look luxe actually looks tacky and cheap. They also treat water like a legit beverage, and sometimes they will invite eachother in for a glass of WATER. One person will offer the water, and the other person will be like "oh thank you so much, I'd LOVE some water", and they put it in a nice glass and drink it on the couch like "MMM, that was delicious and refreshing, thank you so much for this tasty and amusing beverage. Well, I better be going now." It's weird, and it adds to the cheap, tacky feel of the shows.

Another generalization: Why do c-drama producers like to STOMP all over the hottest and most sexy scenes in a drama with the "whimsical music". Just no with the "whimsical music". Please.

And another: The "spunky short-haired ecclectic 2FL". She's invariably loud, annoying, overacting really really badly and ruining every scene she's in, kinda ugly, and wearing the worst clothes I've ever seen. Why does this have to be a thing.

Welp. The first few episodes start off really well, the magnetism is there between the ML and FL and the story picks you up well enough. So, you get two pretty fiery kisses in just the first few episodes, and then THATS IT. No more kiss scenes till the last episode.

And that pretty much sums up the entire drama. Who cares about anything else when the writers are jerking you around treating you like a person they don't like and don't want to make entertainment for. It's boring, it's flat, it's uneventful, and as the romantic elements fizzle out, they try to replace what SHOULD be real chemistry, with very heartfelt OST ballad music over it to try to convince you the scene is emotional when it just isn't.

If you need to watch this, I'd say watch to the first two kisses, then skip to the last half of the last episode and that's as good as it's ever gonna get, and you don't miss a thing.

Choi Jin Hyuk is the reason for this drama. He is everything I could ask from a ML in here. He had such a Prince…
Perfect review. My thoughts exactly. CJH was soooooo fire in this drama, and the kiss scenes were enough to just melt me right down to the ground. I can't believe it took me so long to watch this. I thought it was going to be just a straight rip off of Memento, but it very much is not. This is def going on my rewatch list.

Neither statements are true. There was a time when she went on a hiatus because of the controversy of plagiarism.…
Well if you look around for info about it, it looks like the plagarism issue may have played a part in what happened. They both happened around the same time right? Here is a soompi article where YEH even made a statement that she was not taking a hiatus, despite the plagarism claims:

https://www.soompi.com/article/784645wpp/yoon-eun-hye-is-not-planning-a-hiatus-despite-plagiarism-controversy

But then she ended up taking one anyway.

Theres still conversations about what happened to her like this one:

https://www.reddit.com/r/KDRAMA/comments/go3h00/what_exactly_happened_to_yoon_eun_hyes_career/

And different people have different opinions on it. There's just still a lot of speculation about her I guess. Theres no way to know who is right, or if it was several factors combined that caused her acting career to not really blossom the way people thought it would. I also read some things that seem to point to the idea that she wasn't even really set on committing to acting, she was also producing and making art, so she was on several creative paths at once. Maybe being a superstar actress wasn't even what her heart wanted for her. People act like there's got to be something wrong with you if you don't want to be an A-list actress or actor, but that kind of life is not for everyone, and there's nothing wrong with having other kinds of dreams and goals for yourself.

As for the plastic surgery, the thing about plastic surgery is if it was done well, people would think you didn't have any work done! I don't see much different about her except that her jawline and mouth look a bit different to me. Was it weight loss and fillers? Who knows. I certainly don't. I think she basically looks fine.

I suppose if you were fooled by her in CPrince, you might think she was doing a great acting job. But I didn't ever see her as a male in that role. I do like the way sometimes her acting seems natural. But I'm really neither a fan nor an anti-fan.

Sometimes plastic surgery can ruin a career (like Jennifer Grey from Dirty Dancing, who looked so unrecognizable after her nose job that she lost her career over it, even though her surgery was relatively minor). But in this case I don't think YEH did anything that would ruin her looks at all.

I saw her in Coffee Prince and Goong, and absolutely hated her acting, but then I watched Lie To Me, and thought she'd improved a lot as an actress over that span of time.

In SKorea, all it takes to ruin a career is stuff that an American would consider laughably minor... and it doesn't even have to be true either. Many of my favorite Korean entertainers have been taken down by just unsubstantiated rumors, or things so minor that a westerner wouldn't even think twice about it. Like Hongbin and Ravi from VIXX, or Choi Jin Hyuk.

This was sort of like a prelude to a romantic drama. The music in the first 4 episodes or so is absolutely incredible. Production values and aesthetic were on point. It evokes a very 'Twilight' kind of feel. But for some reason, the latter episodes get really 'cute' and 'heartwarming', and all the Twilight is sucked right out of the show. It does have a nice ending though, and it was so well written and acted. I would recommend this for anyone who's between dramas and wants a little break. It goes fast without feeling like you're being rushed through the episodes. It's also nice that the mini was about a tailor making clothes, and the clothes that are showcased ARE actually good. That's how you know it's not a chinese drama, ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ :P

If you're in it for LSH, I don't know if this is a good one to watch or not. On one hand, there are a few really incredible scenes worth watching just for LSH, and his acting all though this mini was like velvet. On the other hand, to put it like Obi Wan... "this is not the romance you're looking for." No kiss scenes, no kilig anywhere. You'll have to just wait for S-Line to come out.

(FL was very good also, btw)

Not saying I disagree, but what about american dramas? 🤔
This is exactly why I started watching asian dramas, I ran out of Hollywood dramas and British dramas that were any good. I don't want political wokeness and liberal moral sermonizing rammed down my throat every time I watch a show. I'd had enough. Not to mention, American dramas now are just always trying to go for shock value in everything they do. They get more and more explicit as time goes on and now they're just trying to win some kind of Edgiest Drama competition.

Plus... American dramas usually you'll get hooked on something and then they pull the show and leave you hanging... or else they realize people like it so they make 100 seasons of it. I like the formula of 16 episodes and then DONE. Stories with a beginning, middle and end.

I rarely find an American/British drama that I like. So, I just gave up on them altogether and now I'm teaching myself how to speak Korean so someday I can watch them without the subs. I'm totally addicted.

I thought Love O2O was HORRIBLE... and so many people have it in their top ten. I will never understand. My Lovely Liar, I just got done watching that and thought it was really dull and snoozy. No chemistry between leads. recycled plot devices etc.

I havent seen It's Okay Not To Be Okay, and wonder... why the people who like it like it and why the people who hate it hate it? I've always been curious about it, but I watched episode 1 and couldn't get behind that FL, she seemed like a real b*tch to me. Of course, I just mean the character, not the actress. I've seen her in other things where I liked her acting.

If its about KDrama vs CdramaKdramas nails Modern dramas ( Most of the historical dramas will have same template)…
Its weird, but true. That just about sums it up. Modern setting c-dramas are so abysmal, and it's odd because they make such fantastic historical and wuxia.

vincenzo got the biggest haters, that show was so good
I watched it and wondered what all the hype was about. It seemed to me like the tone they took was too light overall to be a mafia drama. I didn't really like it all that much. It was okay. But some people loved it and I always kind of wondered why.

Title My Lovely Liar Spoiler
The screenwriters and casting directors are at fault for this crappy drama. ML/FL have Z-E-R-O chemistry. There…
Tell me if you've ever heard these before:

ML conveniently happens to live next door to FL

ML says he killed someone, and it turns into a big plot device, but then you come to find out he just FEELS like their death was their fault, and he didn't actually kill anyone

One of them gets unexpectedly drunk and the other has to carry them home and put them to bed. (btw, this happens twice in this drama)

One of them comes down with a bug, and the other one has to take care of them, thus spending the night next to them on the bed.

Confessions at an impromptu camping trip in a romantically lit tent at night

2ML is a cop who is always around because he has to 'make sure the FL is safe' from some threat lurking the streets.

2ML is an ex-bf of the FL. FL thinks they broke up because he was a jerk, but really 2ML broke up with her because he was sick with a secret illness and felt he had to let the FL go for her own good.

A moment where the ML and FL say "I have something to tell you" simultaneously. If one of them is the first to talk, the misunderstanding will be cleared up, but no, the other one says their thing first and just makes the misunderstanding worse and then the one who could clear up the misunderstanding doesn't ever say what they were gonna say in the first place.

This drama is just a patchwork of uninspired, recycled crap. There's no reprieve from it, not a single episode feels like it has any original vision to it.

The screenwriters and casting directors are at fault for this crappy drama. ML/FL have Z-E-R-O chemistry. There are no kilig moments. Their kiss scenes are technically fine, but there is just no fire between those two at ALL. None.

The plot devices were trope-ish and predictable to the point of insulting the viewer's intelligence. The dialogue was uninspired. The ML's sytlist gave him a dumb haircut and baggy clothes to wear through the entire drama. The aesthetic was very run-of-the-mill. Really a disappointing watch, honestly.
