Just finished it. I can see how some people would think this is like the best thing ever, but it just didn't really do it for me. There are just so many things wrong with it that bother me. One, the time-skipping of the storyline sequence is awkward. Two, he's a hot blonde but only for a few episodes. Why do this. There was no need. It would not have changed the story in any crucial way to let him be blonde through over half the show. They gave him a really hot look for just a few short episodes and then yanked it away from me and dulled him down deliberately for the whole rest of the show. Not cool. Three, the characters - and this show's brand of romance - just didn't speak to me. The ML's kind of a dick. The FL's kind of self-righteous. I don't readily identify with them or their attraction to eachother. Four, not enough passion in that romance. I mean it was okay. But I go for romances that portray really extremely hot fiery chemistry and this was just sort of a medium on that scale.
Lots of things about this show weren't bad at all... but just weren't over-the-top good either. I'd call it much better than mediocre, but nowhere near as good as some of the best dramas I've seen.
i honestly would not consider him a red flag, considering the fl is scared of him because she misunderstood him…
I love this drama a LOT and I love this ML a LOT, but if you don't think grabbing a female you care deeply about by the throat is a red flag, then idk what to tell ya... on top of that, he used her hand to stab himself in the guts to prove himself to her. I have been in a relationship before where he attempted suicide to get me to stay when I wanted to break up. So I stayed for a long time after that. I didn't realize that that's actually extremely toxic.
But I can say in all honesty that when I debate whether I want to watch a drama, the more feminists are seething in the comments section of a drama about red flags and toxicity, the more I want to watch it. So I could say for all the toxic ML lovers out there: Hell yes he's a red flag, now go and watch it MYOW!
I’m still lurking here like an unsatisfied soul!! Give me some idea how to get over this drama!
Try Extremely Perilous Love. It's a short-ep series. Which can be a good way of taking a little break between longer shows. EPL just grabs you from the beginning and the ML is so so so so so superfine and really hypnotic.... there's some nice kiss scenes and chemistry... the settings and costumes are sumptuous and beautiful. It will take your mind off this for a short while and entertain you a little bit. Also, I like to promote Wang Zu Yi whenever I can, he's a relatively new actor with a lot of looks and talent, I want other people to discover him too.
Many of the reviews are not encouraging, but I think it has a similar tone to SoKP. Just don't expect a masterpiece and don't take it too seriously because it's just a short-ep drama, and I think you will be able to appreciate that at least it keeps your attention pleasantly occupied for a day of binge-watching.
It has a 7.5 MDL rating. I'm a hard grader, and I gave it an 8.5, mainly because the ML is deliciously dark as a character, and the story is a little dark, the aesthetic was dark and beautiful, and there WAS chemistry in it, good kiss scenes too.
People complain that the FL stabbed the ML too many times. But since you liked SoKP, I'm guessing that might not put you off so much, because SoKP is also kind of a stabby romance too. People complain that it started off boring. But we just finished SoKP, where we put in 30 episodes of investment for an 8 episode payoff. We have lots of patience. <3
Luckily for me, I haven't seen Lighter and Princess yet, so I'm using that to pull myself from my post-SoKP depression and it's great, but I notice you've already seen that so. I thought i'd try to recc something you haven't seen before.
I'm watching L&P, and there's just something hypnotic about this actor. I love his facial expressions and the way he moves. There aren't many supporting actors that get my attention, but this guy is cool as shit and I want to see him in more stuff, with bigger roles.
Through the whole thing, I was waiting for there to be a plot twist where Xie Wei ALSO reincarnated self-aware of the first timeline. But then that never happened.
Try Legend of Dugu - Jeremy Tsui isn't the ML but definitely obsessed with his love interest (and evil). He kind…
I just started it. The dubbing is SO BAD. Do you happen to know if the dubbing was voice actors or the original actors? Supposedly Jeremy's voice is awesome, I wonder if they used someone else's voice in this or what.
It was so so awful. I finished Kunning Palace and just needed to decompress after watching it, so I picked this one. Just curious about Ling He's early work. The height difference is really cool and strange. But man, does this drama suck. The biggest problem I had with it aside from the RIDICULOUS screenwriting.... is the FL.
FL has the BoF FL's same haircut. Classic chinese FL tragic fashion sense. They portray her as conservatively dressed for the mostpart. She is written as a shy character who lies a lot due to her shyness. So she's a tiresome, reluctant creature already. But then you add to all this, the fact that the FL's habitual mouth expressions are very terse. And what you end up with is a very prudish and homely FL, all in all. It just makes me feel sorry for Ling He that he had to do a drama like this for work before he got hired onto better things. I guess everybody's gotta start somewhere.
Dropped at ep 12, and give it 4 stars for at least putting in the effort.

Hmmm ok kew. I will think it over. It can't be worse than Sparkle Love. I'm on episode 11, FFWing like crazy, and still fell asleep 15 times already. tysm <3

I just looked over the MDL page for it. 55eps?!? And rated below an 8. So that doesn't necessarily mean I don't want to watch it, I just have a few questions about it. One... how draggy is it? Two... will I end up skipping over the ML/FL plotline? Three... I'm assuming the 2ML ends up having a romance with a 2FL. How does it go for them? Does one of them die? Do they get/stay together by the end? How much screentime do they get? Four... How was it just in general, do you think the 7.9 rating is accurate? Five... About how many eps into the drama do you have to get before the 2ML/2FL romance begins?
Because I don't share your opinions you call me mentally unstable? What you're doing right now is called "gaslighting" and you can't get by on it in interpersonal interaction in current year, people see right through that.
I like that "have a good day" at the end too, very magnanimous of you.
Nice how you never answered the question I posed. Just went straight for the gaslighting. Stay classy.
So hard to move on from this. 😭😭 Even after I finished some other drama. Can someone recommend any drama…
I mean you could always try I Love My President Though He's a Psycho.... but I assume you meant "can someone recommend any GOOD drama with intense fear/hate turn love dynamic", so that one would be out.
Okay, can I just say.... whoever the STYLISTS were for this show deserve gold medals and nobel prizes. Bai Lu is funny-cute AND gorgeous. But some shows have stylists that make her look... a little goofy or a little dumpy or a little bit over-done. Her stylist in this drama brought out her true beauty, and made her look graceful and stunning without being over-made-up. Even in full makeup as empress, she still doesn't look overdone-up. Her look when she's in the snow is so radiant and pretty. I mean in Love is Sweet, they practically punished her for being too beautiful by tying her hair back, giving her "don't effing touch me" lipstick, and putting her in that god-awful brown jacket and pants suits. It was criminal considering how beautiful she really is. This drama treated her the way someone as stunning as she is deserves to be treated.
SLH reminds me a little bit of Lee Dong Wook, where his natural features are striking, and when stylists try to downplay that, they just make him look awkward. But in SoKP, his stylist has done him up PERFECTLY. He's pale with dark hair and red lips, but not so much that he looks vampy.... but ALMOST though. Just enough to give him a kind of striking unsettling vibe, but still with a natural feel to the colorations... they made him just heartbreakingly beautiful-hot.
Their hair is fan-friggin-tastic. Their clothes are awesome. And it's not just the leads, they also made ZJW look HOTTTT, and brought out the best in everyone's features with consideration to their characters.
Whoever is responsible for this, I love you, you are amazing and they should clone you.
I liked that he never treated the FL badly. I hate the dog blood dramas that the male lead is 'good' but mistreats…
Dude, he accuses her of secretly meeting up with Zhang Zhe in the rain, and she doesn't reassure him, and he doesn't apologize.... they both just skip straight to the part where he attacks her. GGGGGGGGG that was awesome.
You may have already watched it at this point, but Till the end of the moon. Bai Lu and Luo Yunxi. ML is possessive,…
Oh, I have definitely already watched it at this point :P
I'm suffering through Sparkle Love right now, and it's like "someone save me from this please omg". ZLH plays ML opposite this FL that looks almost exactly like Gu Hye Seon in Boys Over Flowers. I don't know how much more I can take, this is awful.

Sexiest red-flag romance I've seen since TTEOTM.
