The acting and dialogue is good, but the production values are bad and the special effects are terrible, giving this a very "Xena warrior princess" kind of feel. That's not necessarily that bad for me, I like Xena Warrior Princess and old Saved by the Bell episodes and things that have lower production values. But this drama was WAYYY too long, it just dragged on and on and on, and there were like 3 kiss scenes total. The kiss scenes were decent i guess. First kiss doesn't even happen till like ep 16 or 17. I thought this was supposed to be a romance??? Then the ending was just a complete cop out. This drama was tedious. And it had nothing to do with the actors, who gave good performances. The OST was both intrusive and - at times - atrocious. I muted the music when it came on.
This was very romance-y in that Hallmark kind of way... or like that American movie The Thomas Crown Affair. Except with way more decent kiss scenes and classier romantic moments.
I hated it though. Number one, there was just no kilig, and no spice. I didn't find the chemistry believable, and that was mainly coming from the ML. Something about him is fake, masked over, "Youre looking very lovely today, Mrs. Cleaver" vibes.
The music was nice, but it was "beautiful" music, gorgeous sunsets, that kind of thing. The plot was straightforward, and the couple's challenges come mainly from logistics and family bitterness, and business-related things.
Add all this together, and it was just a total snoozefest for me. Romance without the spice or the kilig, with a magazine-smile fakey ML wearing perfect business causal all the time...
I am on episode 11 right now and I totally agree with your honest feedback. I am really trying to get into this…
They DO have one honest-to-god HOT kiss scene in this drama. And that's all you gon' get. But it's worth it to at least watch up to that point. I like seeing them with this dynamic, it makes the TTEOTM re-watch so so good. It gives TTEOTM this air of like even though they just met, they feel like they "know" eachother. It's really cool.
But for me this show was a slog, aside from that wooo-baby kiss scene. I can't believe FL's wardrobe. That brown boxy poofy jacket that erases any figure she might have under there, which they cinch at the fat-roll level of the waist so she looks like the damn Michelin man, only with manly shoulder padding.
There are scientific studies to show that people consistently rate people as less attractive when they're wearing brown. Any stylist that puts an ML or FL in brown deserves to be FIRED. And this jacket wasn't just hideous because it was brown, it was hideous in the cut and style.
And the stupid business plot, just.... I so don't even care. I'm a romance drama watcher. Why spend so much TIME on that stupid plot, do they think their audience even gives a toot. Ughhhh.
Just remember all this boring nonsense is all for a good cause, and that is to rewatch TTEOTM!!! Stay strong!!! Fighting!
ML was nice looking but not a great actor. Very expressionless and dull. FL was awesome. They had some pretty good chemistry together in the first several episodes, but then that quickly faded away as the show progressed. It was a very flat plot, everything went exactly as you'd expect. Idk why people like this so much. I thought it was the epitome of average, except for the FL who was pretty good.
Jang Ki Yong already took that in Born Again. I think you might have to wait a longer while for another Korean…
Welcome to k-dramas

If they made him as dark as Heathcliff, according to the Unspoken Rules of K-Romances, he could never have a happy ending. And they wanted a happy ending for Heathcliff, so that's how they sidestepped that little issue.

Just too sedate for me.
