This drama was absolutely awful. The only redeeming quality about it was LYX & BL are both good actors with amazing chemistry. I think this is worth watching for only one reason, and that's to make watching TTEOTM even better, because you get to see some of the professional back-story behind this onscreen couple. But... be prepared for how terrible this show really is. OST was unbelievably intrusive, the ost/soundtrack are really out of step with the actual scenes and emotions behind them. Storyline is formulaic to the point of being insulting to the viewer. Aesthetics lacked vision and wardrobe, as usual for a typical modern-setting c-drama, is tragic. Supporting cast was not great. If it wasn't for the ML/FL, I would have dropped this early. As it is, I skipped a lot to make it through. If you find yourself watching thinking "when does this get good".... it starts to get better at about the ep 19 mark.
I never thought I would binge this series again. It's not one of my favorites, but it's still worth watching until…
I never had it as one of my faves either, and yet I still keep coming back to it... who knew it had such a high rewatch factor. Because of that, I came back to upgrade my initial 7.5 rating to an 8.
Have you seen Love Between Fairy and Devil and Till The End Of The Moon yet? Cuz dang, those were good too.
This was my review of LBFAD:
"I gave it an 8, the points off are for a tiresome bodyswap plot-diversion, and the fact that they kind of gave the ML too much comedy which at some points really messes with his whole "badass" vibe, and by the end of the show he's just way too cucked to the point where the sexiness of the ML they show you at the beginning just gradually sputters out. Still a great drama, though."
I'm big on aesthetics, especially in wuxia. I'm looking for certain kinds of aesthetics that are really cohesive, and make good use of black in them, have good color palattes that match the plot and atmosphere and characters. I'm also big on like that antihero/bad-boy ML, and good ones are kind of rare.
I thought the best part of TLB was the 2ML/2FL storyline it was just so fire. But the over-arching plot is long and involved. I looked at psychedelicjinkx's watchlist, and there's a lot of wuxia/historical c-drama staples that they haven't seen yet. So I thought "well if you thought TLB was THAT good, then you could try these" because they haven't seen em yet.
Personally my fave in this genre is Eternal Love of Dream. I don't know why I love it so much. The ML is really fire, and I like the aesthetics (except for that weird bird sub-plot part). There's not a lot of black in the color palate, but the way they use white is really on point, looks so beautiful. And it might be the only ML i've ever seen Dilraba have some kind of ACTUAL chemistry with. Normally with her I'm not feelin it.
But anyways, for me LBFAD scratched that itch. Couldv'e ended better.
But I was looking at your list, you gave it a 5, you hated it basically, lol. IDK for me, with this person's watchlist... I thought why not give it a whirl.
I get that they were going for deep disturbing psychological drama, but the fatal flaw in this story, is that in order to make the plot work, they invented an FL whose basic makeup as a character is highly implausible. She has reactions to things that make her impossible for the viewer to empathize with. To call her a doormat would be the understatement of the century.
This series was adorable! cute and funny with plenty of kilig moments throughout. Pleasantly spicy for a light romcom. I thought it was a great light watch.
This series is so good, the only thing wrong with it is they need a bigger budget and more story/runtime. The plot is kind of silly but interesting and dark, the cast is awesome. The only reason I can't rate it higher than a 7.5 is because the storyline is just so sparse and the stories so short.
I am glad we got 2 episodes today. They were really good. I can't believe HH wants to get another loan, when she…
Came here because I am addicted to LYN as Hao Du, and wondering if this will give me the withdrawls-fix I am looking for. Prolly not. Good to know. I'll just sit here and wait for A Journey to Love to come out and get subbed.
the Main Male lead is actual a very good actor. so underrated.. I can't wait for this too
He's friggin friggin friggin hot is what he is, whooooa baby such a good actor too he is straight fire.... Cannot WAIT to see him in a romantic ML role. Wuxia just makes it triple bonus awesome.
I would like to see him cast as an ML. I just watched him in Love is Sweet play a bad guy but... he was just so gorgeous and such a good actor, I felt like there's more to him than just a 2-dimensional guest role. He reminds me of Liu Lu Ning, who had that great 2ML role in The Long Ballad playing Hao Du.

> If I will ever tangle myself into another relationship with man - will I be able to have more healthy and satisfactory one?
yeah, that's the kicker. You get out and wonder if it was just a fluke tragedy that you spent all that time in an emotional investment with no returns, or if it really is YOU attracting those people.
I think if you blame yourself, you're not giving the other person enough credit for their life coping-skills. For a narc, or a BPD or even an antisocial personality disordered person.... their coping skills HAVE to get them by in life, they get GOOD at attracting unsuspecting victims, they have a camouflage, and it works only because youre unsuspecting, not because there's anything wrong with you! If you get bit by a snake, is it because snakes love to bite you? No! It's because it got past your defenses and you weren't able to spot it in time to avoid it.
I saw Kill me heal me, and Its Okay that's love, but I never saw OK not to be OK. I started the first episode and thought 'that FL is a b*tch' so I didn't keep going with it.
It's probably hard to make a good show about these kinds of mental illnesses because they're supposed to be entertaining romance stories, and yet the honest truth of it is that these people with this kind of mental illness cannot sustain romantic attachments. They need therapy, and they need to commit long-term to that therapy. It's not very romantic really.
The idea that love can heal all is a very nice idea, but people like you and I, we know that doesn't work with everyone. For some people, loving them is not enough to make a significant impact on their illness. And sometimes it's just downright enabling.

>My parner of 20 years is covert narcisist
ohhhhhh my god. You pretty much know exactly what i'm talking about. I kind of think you had it worse than me, because BPD people are very overt, and they have deep, multidimensional feelings that ARE real, whereas with a narc you're dealing with a different kind of beast. But -- so much of the stuff we go through is the same, so many of their coping mechanisms are the same.
I happen to LIKE bad-good shows, so I was watching this expecting some so-bad-its-good cheap entertainment. I was not expecting it to actually have any substance, so that took me by surprise. I'd be interested, if you did end up watching it, to find out what you thought of it too.
Also wondering, have you ever seen a drama that reminded you of YOUR past experiences with your narc s.o.?
And thanks for the compliments, I am so flattered <3 <3 <3 We got that survivor solidarity <3 <3 <3
From the standpoint of a mystery, this was an incredibly well executed story. I gave it a point off because it really made a point of being "deep", and yet if you took it as a deep tale of symbolism, psychology, fate and morality, the story it told on that level was pretty cynical. Still, this was captivating entertainment. FL had a very slight slight tendency to overact, but was still fantastic, and the rest of the cast was amazing. Production and aesthetic and the OST and soundtrack were very top notch.
I rarely rate anything a 9 or over, but I gave this a 9.5. Not because it was some epic rollercoaster of a drama, but because for what it was, I see very little about it that could have been improved. The story and characters were written so well, everyone's acting was fantastic, the aesthetic was easy and beautiful, the music and OST was probably the best I've ever heard, the way it matched the story and complimented it. This is cinematic quality in every regard.
There are some kind of outlandish plot points, but they are tempered by the way the story is told with such nuance and grace. There are no "villains" in the sense that everyone in the story has many sides to their personality. There is no abuse of the "misunderstanding" plot device so common in dramas. Nothing drags out too long. The psychology of the characters is believable, their reactions and the things they say are believable.
This romance was propelled along through so many episodes by a unique mix of story elements, there is some mystery, some taboo, some character struggle and growth, and somehow it just worked.
The kilig and spice levels are off the charts awesome. The chemistry just scorches the screen, and the love story is satisfying and sexy. I just keep asking myself why it took so long for me to discover this gem. Sometimes the Taiwanese dramas really knock it out of the park, and this is one of those dramas.
