I'm still getting used to the way idol fandoms work with dramas. Working backwards from an actor's looks to like…
Anyone who chooses this industry to make a living knows that theyre capitalizing off their visuals. So they willingly subject themselves to objectification, TO A DEGREE. But obsession from fans comes from parasocial relationships taking the place of rl relationships and isnt healthy... but the industry encourages it with variety shows, bts's, meet and greets etc to show the PERSON behind the actor, and to me thats not healthy... john malkovich and keanu reeves dont do this, and theyre widely loved and respected as actors. Some objectification is normal but too much is weird and creepy so its about degree and gray area here too.
Who freaking knew that Arthur Chen had this side to him?????? I mean MY GOD. He just turned--- like with this…
i will leave as magnificent a review as possible, and hopefully the momentum keeps up on this show, because i'm loving it, and Im loving that I didn't think I'd love it at all and then i DID lol
evernight = i gave it a 6, and i barely remember watching it, and when i go back and refresh my memory on it's page, I realize that the FL was a dealbreaker for me, no can do with that one
I think there's two things that make this drama magical... one, Arthur Chen has finally hit his stride. He has confidence, he has experience, he's taking the right roles for him. And two.... he clearly crushes on Dilraba in rl at least somewhat. So some of what makes this performance absolutely crush it is that there's an element of him *not actually acting*.
Which is what shocked me about the psycho bloodlust scene in ep 3, is there was a part of the REAL Arthur Chen in it, he made himself vulnerable to the camera in a way I just didn't know he could. That MFer is a LOT spicier of a personality than he lets on. He usually plays it cool and goofy and sweet and aloof and wise, and here he just went full crazy and it looked GORGEOUS.

Well here's how it works. An evil elite class of luciferian reptiles has taken over the planet, and they strive every day to deprive our lives of joy. This includes marring beauty. Natural beauty, civic and architectural beauty, and the beauty of art. So now you get a beach with a gas station sign parked way out on the pier to ruin any photo ops or nice sunsets, you get buildings being built that look like cold ugly monoliths, replacing older buildings that were built with grand intricate beautifications, you get post modern impressionism instead of rennaissance sensibilities about what art gets vaunted by society, so ugly sculptures etc
c-dramas is an oasis of beauty in an ugly world. the most beautiful will be the most celebrated.
YOU GUYS!I hate it when people say "you guys" and I try to never do it, but srsly. You guys.I skipped…
Who freaking knew that Arthur Chen had this side to him?????? I mean MY GOD. He just turned--- like with this ONE scene ---- he just turned into one of my favorite actors on the planet. I mean srsly.... I LOVE LING HE. Or rather, I love XIE WEI. But this acting is like LING HE HOLD MY BEER my god. How do I move on from this scene, it's so delicious and crazy and fine and amazing waaaaaaaaa.......
I hate it when people say "you guys" and I try to never do it, but srsly. You guys.
I skipped around and speed-watched the first 5 eps, and didn't like the vibe, and didn't like Dilraba, and didn't like the story, and I dropped it and rated it like crap.
And I took a week to try to focus on watching something else for a little while, and I dug and dug and watched two lo-budget stinkers (that were pretty good for stinkers actually) and binged Love Designer.
As I did this, in the background of my mind I KNEW this drama IS the best thing going right now, and I wouldn't be able to concentrate on anything else. So I started trying to just.... get my mind around the plot. She's 400 years old and has no senses and he's like 18 or some shit. And that's that. And it's gonna be DILRABA, and that's that. So just get over it.
So I got over it, and I got in a good mental place where I was like "okay, I know what it feels like to feel old and jaded and tired of everything and i've seen it all and done it all, and be like i don't care. And I know what it feels like when someone way younger than you thinks your superfine and starts courting you aggressively." So I just imagined I was in that place, and went in to this drama for a second time, but this time trying to be FULLY immersed.
YOU GUYS.
I'm on ep 3. Where the birds rain fire down on errybody, and ML starts going bloodlust psycho.
YOU GUYS.
I have never seen Arthur Chen channel this kind of energy, and it is SO EFFING HOT, I can't even move on yet. I keep pausing, doing other things for several hours, and then going back to the beginning of the scene and watching again.
What even are those expressions he's making?!?!? This is some of the best acting I've ever seen. Just... by anyone at all.
And it's not just that.... that scene where he first stares at FL and falls for her kind of on sight right off the bat.... you can f*cking FEEL it coming off him.
THIS IS INSANE.
I need to change that crappy rating I gave it jesus. I am watching this SO SLOW rn holy crap.
So far one of the best reviews ever. btw this me and my bff have a way to call this genre of drama in our language…
I just want to thank you so much for the lovely compliment! Portuguese, my great grandmother was portuguese. She was known in the family for having the best fashion sense, she always looked faaaabulous. Even when there was no money in the bank. She taught us that style and money are NOT the same thing!
And I didn't know anything about Portugal really, but then I stumbled on a youtube vid of people speaking Portuguese and daymmmm that is a sexy sounding language. If they made good dramas so I could get some immersion going, I'd definitely try to learn it.
I'm not a Dilraba fan at all, but I did for some reason like her in ELOD. I think the vibe she gives off is usually…

He's 19-20. Laughing like crazy and always smilin (he did smiled more in novel) was his coping mechanism.
I aint never had nothin like that, but I HAVE had - god how to say wo getting doxxy - like an illness that usually puts people out BAD for 2 weeks like not a common illness but not rare - and i got like the 1 in 10,000 level sick with it though and it took me like 2 years to finally start getting over it.... and it was HORRIBLE. and I am just a total p***y. I cry, I whine, I moan, I beg for drugs, and I cry some more. I don't do pain well. So I admire your inner fortitude.
The nurse had to slap me in the face to get me to hold still for a spinal tap
I was not a fan of L&P... I feel like a lot of Arthur Chen fans fell in love with him by watching L&P and I did not. And I thought he was good in WDBTD but not like make me swoon super excellent or anything.
But damn he killin this role. This is the best acting I've ever seen from him so far.
He smiles more in the novel. even while killing. There is more story to come about him that we don't know yet.…
My beloved ex was a sailor and one of the toughest people I ever met, and he had tourettes... and he would laugh all the time, even when he was nervous or angry or injured. So sometimes he'd be feeling threatened or intimidated by someone and sense danger, and he'd start laughing this laugh and I'd be like "oh shit, it's on. he's about to clean the floor with that guy's face." One time a really drunk mean bastard kicked our front door down off the hinges, he must have weighed like 250 pounds (My bf only weighed like 175). Scared the crap out of us. We had been chillin in bed at the time, so BF was wearing nothing but a sarong tied around his waist. He sprang out of bed and started giggling like a maniac and then literally picked the guy up and threw him down a flight of stairs.

His character there wasn't green flag? It seemed green-flag to me. Help me remember, what did he do that made him red-flag in that?
I'm a massive red-flag lover, so maybe whatever he did was so tame compared to what I'm used to that it didn't even register to me.
