idk, i did that with ABAY... I hated it so much I HAD to finish it. And Kai and Seven's fans on that page were MEAN. Really really mean, and they would say "well then why'd you finish it if you hated it so much", but I try to always finish a drama. I've seen like 500+ dramas, and I've dropped maybe 10-20, ever, in all that time.

But to say you didn't watch a drama but you don't agree with it's rating is a whole other level of special that I just cannot comprehend.

Well if my aunt is any indicator, she's a senior citizen, she watches hallmark romances and k-shows nearly exclusively. Sometimes she watches bible shows and rodeos. She can't get into a c-drama even though she tries to give them a shot.

I recc'd POB to her, and told her she would really like it, and she watched about 5 eps, and dropped. I begged her to pick it up again, she watched 1 or 2 more eps then dropped again.

I told her to try Blossom, Legend of Shen Li, Rise of the Phoenixes, My Uncanny Destiny, and a few others... none of them stuck for her, she just couldn't get into them. I don't think she ever made it past ep 3 of anything except POB, because I begged her.

But I gave her POJ and she BINGED the sh*t out of it, she slammed all the eps in like 3 days, and after we finished it, she said it was "really good" and compared it to CLOY. And her only complaint was that ML was in her words "such a baby face" that she didn't find him believable as a general.

Believe me, at her age, it's about the STORY way more than it is about the visuals. And she loved it.

I mean I basically almost never give out 10's, but when I go into people's watched lists, there are a lot of people out there, maybe around half, who give out 10's like candy to kids at a parade.

I gave this a 9, I liked it about as much as I like dream of splendor and blossom.

idk i guess you could be right, but it sounds like cope to me. This show was legit excellent.

Every now and then it happens, like Hidden Love got pretty high up there iirc and TTEOTM, there's a few others. I think SOKP is the best drama on the planet, and it never cracked 9 and I don't understand but hey.

One of the only scores I thought was blatantly artificially inflated was My Demon. What a terrible drama, there is no way it was ACTUALLY rated that high. If that was organic, then I am afraid for the world because dayum.

yea but you gave guardian, my love from the star and kill me heal me all 10/10, which to me is crazy. So my point just being that this show IS really really good despite it's flaws, and I'm sure lots and lots of people gave it a 10 just because it's GOOD, not because they're anyones mass-rating fans. it deserves its score.

Xie Wei = Best ML character ever. I have seen and read so much stuff, and I'd have to wrack my brain to think of a better ML in any fiction anywhere.

I liked Mr Rochester from Jane Eyre, but Xie Wei never locked an ex wife in his attic and then neglect to tell his current gf about it. I liked Edward Cullen but his cringe factor is too high. I liked Jonathan Rhys Meyers in Dracula, but they cancelled the series early.

There is literally nothing better than Xie Wei. I wish I had known before I started SOKP that I was literally watching the best show on the face of the earth, because I would have slowed down and savored it more.

Also, Bailu not always my fave, but that role was hers. It suited her perfectly, and she also killed it.

I was not a fan of love in the clouds

my aunt only watches k-dramas. i convinced her to watch poj, and she binged it SO FAST. She was done with it in like 2-3 days and she said she really liked it a lot.

hard to figure out what to recc when you don't have anything on your watched list. I don't know what you've seen and what you haven't.

YES to all of that for me also. I also thought the tone the show took overall, made the "insane deposed emperor" scene look way way too over the top and facepalm, me and my aunt both thought that scene was too cringe to fit in that story.

It was so so good overall, i'd play it for someone who has never seen a c-drama before to show how good they can really be.

My unwanted opinion though, is that when I walk away from this drama and let it settle in my mind, the biggest thing that stands out to me about this show is Deng Kai as Qi Min, and how he just stole the show because he acted his ass off and was just so damn sexy. He has way too much charisma, and he upstaged everybody. Snow Kong was the best acting partner I've ever seen him paired up with, they had so much natural chemistry and she's a fabulous actress.

If I wanted to rewatch my fav Ling He drama, it's still SOKP. But if I wanted to rewatch my fav Deng Kai drama, it's POJ.

Tried to watch because Ryan Ren. Every minute is like torture. I made it 5 eps in and just lack the inner strength to continue. Main reason? FL
The plot and script are also terrible, and the direction is god-awful, and the styling sucks, but I might have been able to tolerate all that, were it not for the fact that I find the FL so annoying that it's almost like she was custom designed by some malevolent force to the exact specifications that would p*ss me off the most.

I envy those who enjoy watching her, because they get to watch Ryan Ren bein all sexy and I don't.

My goal is usually to try to describe a drama in such a way that it doesn't ruin the experience of going into the show blind.

It's portrayed as less than consentual because if they did the same scene and it was entirely consentual that would make FL a cheap woman. The aphrodisiac story mechanism serves the purpose of allowing the FL to have a racy scene and still not be seen as 'impure' or 'sl*tty'.

I'm not condoning it, but this is the logic of C-drama. That's why those scenes often happen the way they do.
