Just started this because there's not much else to watch. The leads are somewhat lacking in the looks department, but the story and the history they have as characters is interesting so I'll stick around for a bit.
Just up to ep. 7 and I'm really enjoying the acting, writing and atmosphere. Was happy to see all episodes are available now. Don't know if I should rate it now or wait until the end. Its way too low in my opinion.
This drama goes from highs to lows in a split second. Some broad humour like Jeon Man constantly stuffing his face to the disturbing talk Gi Jun has with his sister. The setup and the resolution of the 'marriage between the mothers-in-law poingnant and joyful at the same time. It's worth it to stick around.
I'm liking this, it has good atmosphere. She is smart but always two steps behind. Her informant seems to be the guy involved in the crimes and is pretending to be injured by someone. For what purpose, who knows? The young cop is smart as a whip. The flashbacks with her missing partner/lover are very touching. Let's have more episodes now.
I'm in a quandary about how to rate this drama. While it had a solid story of revenge well taken and there was some excellent acting by some characters, it fell short in many aspects. The main leads were mostly unbending. By that I mean stiff and one-note in expressing their haunted characters. The constant snowing kind of set the stage for that. The villainous father ate up the screen to the point of overkill and took up way too much time. We didn't even get to see him die except for what I guess was his blood on his concubine's face. Ditto for the evil Duke's demise. I didn't expect much romance and I didn't get it. What was the point of those two sterile kisses?
This drama has an interesting premise. Watched both episodes and am enjoying the ML character and all the other participants. I don't have a problem with toilet humour (fart and crap jokes) but they are a bit of a cheap shot. In the same way that many dramas have their characters drink seju to excess in order to get away with interactions that would otherwise be too embarrassing.
I only started watching this today, and am up to episode 14 so far.A comment I read when I was about to start…
Up to 25 and the drama is not feminist. Instead it shows just how little power women have at this time and under these conditions. One female character has been honed, by a cruel childhood, into a steely knife that takes her revenge. Will she soften to get some sense of contentment? We'll see.
Twenty-five down and five to go. The despicable people just keep on doing their thing. The Princess dagles because of course women can't reach for power. The Concubine has finally become the Madam only to get framed by her daughter. The daughter holds a grudge against everyone so being an abused Dutchess helps her realize her payback. Grandmother is waiting in the wings but will she come through with testimony against the villain who is busy being a contrite puddle on the floor in front of the judge. Will a steely Han Yan find a way to make his defences dry up so he shrivels into the husk of a man he has always been.
The writers had me almost, I say 'almost' , feeling sorry for YuShan. HanYan is so cold it's a wonder YunXi's fingers don't get frostbite when he tries to choke her in self-defence.
Episode 21 was so empowering especially watching it as a woman!! I rather live my life as a bad shameless woman…
Agreed. A feminist treatise to show who is really the literary talent and intellectual superior in the family. Love the May - December aspect of the relationship as I've been in one of those myself for decades.
The wedding ceremony was totally enrapturing and consumated in death. The evil husband/father role is perfect for someone who doesn't have a supple bone in his acting chops. The few cracks that have periodically appeared in the ML's cement face have again been plastered over. I'll keep going but things better liven up soon.
So now we know just how horrible her whole family is from the time she was a baby and her mother gave birth. Just how does she plan to punish them or redeem them?
Wow, a wheelchair accessible secret passage to bad it reveals treason and will take down all the family members. Only HanYan is the snowgoose who may survive the cold that has enveloped the family.
Ep 11 who has time to look at the fireworks when you can have a long, lingering look into each others eyes. Later it gets pretty bizarre when the officials have to get into baths to check if they still have their gonads. Then they check their family members including the women who are sure not to have gonads. How ballsy of eunuhs.
