I feel like this drama would be a great piece of work to study in a literacy or even a film class. There are so many symbolism, motifs and character development and so much can be discussed about each action and scene. If it's allowed in the curriculum it is definitely something I would love to use as an example. I remember back in high school or even in college, we would go over Shakespeare books/movies and other literature pieces that are deemed as classics. I really feel CQL can be considered one as well or maybe I'm just biased.

You said it! The relationship between Lan Wangji & Wei Wuxian, and the love they have for each other bleeds all over the screen, regardless of not showing any physical intimacy. Isn't that what it should be? Emotional development should happen first and then comes everything else. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji understood each other and developed their trust in each other, which should be the priority in every relationship, atleast that's what I think.

Review The Untamed
Awesome review! Totally agree with all the amazing components this drama had to offer; and thanks for penning…
Thank you ^_^
Trust me, it was really hard to write one. Even now I still feel I can never fully express myself on how brilliant this drama is. I can write a thesis about this, drama or even a book.

Thank you! I will keep your advice in mind. I recently entered the rabbit hole and it is safe to assume I'm never getting out and I will go through a huge drama slump but eventually I will try to watch something else. But never move on from CQL entirely :)

What a great society but alas that's how it works. Every time we fall so that we can learn to pick ourselves up. Now all he has to do is smile and the world is his :)

That fact that I watched the whole 2:16 clip when he's saying the same thing is really saying some thing. He is the first celeb I probably like for his personality more than talent or looks, both of which he also has plenty.

I don't think I have ever been this in love with any sort of media production before in my life
I'm making him listen to interviews and BTS and Xiao Zhan songs and I'm like 'does the subtitle do justice! TELL ME!' So yeah he has to be cool. No choice when it comes to CQL hehe

SO I was watching this kdrama and it was good but guess what I stopped it after I started CQL and I haven't gone back since then. That's the thing. I don't think I'm going back anytime soon. My heart and soul is filled with CQL. That's it. The sooner we accept it, the better aiyoo

Sorry to butt in but just wanted to say my partners tells me that CQL and everything/everyone related to it are like my cracks. Whenever I'm not texting back or anything for few hours, he's like "you're doing your crack, aren't you?" He's not wrong XD

So many things happened within the span of two weeks: Xiao Zhan's birthday, breaking record with 'spotlight', Xiao Zhan updating his weibo, from showing off his muscles to being crackhead XD
Yibo team winning SDOC 3 to clocking his fastest time in motorcycle race to winning a golden eagle award
Me finishing CQL and MDZS; watching the special edition and listening to audio and on route to rewatching all 50 episodes again! Congrats to all three of us lol

Yes viewers do tend to immerse themselves in movies and shows to take a break from reality, but for me CQL did more if that makes sense. The challenges and the struggles the characters felt specially the ones you mentioned 'internal conflicts, familial obligations, or social circumstances', I was able to make a personal connection with those.

Kdramas have become part of my life. Now I can say Kdrama gives me the break I need to get away from reality. As for Kpop, it was something I was initially interested in but now I just listen to it once in a while to reminisce about the old times. Now it's gonna be a while before I can watch any drama...side effect of CQL I believe.

No worries :) Thank you for sharing them. It is amazing how one person's writing was able to bridge the gap between different people. I'm glad Yang Xia chose to produce the drama. I'm trying to imagine if another person picked it up, what would've happened? Would we gotten the same CQL? The fact that she mentioned 'they can't just delete certain aspects of the relationship because it won't end up making sense'. They really did succeed in finding a balance between audience needs and censorship. I couldn't agree more about the soulmate part. If there is one person in life who believes you and staying by you no matter what , it doesn't need label. That resonated with me so much.

As I mentioned in my review, the efforts put into this show is amazingly huge and well thought over. It’s not that type of fantasy drama where they’re just in one studio and overuses greenscreen. The Untamed really went on their way filming on different settings, making well-designed costumes, composing music, and making fiction feel real to make the fantasy its best version. It’s because the efforts of the producers, cast, and anyone who contributed to this drama is impossible to disregard.

Damn it! This just makes so much sense! I've never thought of it like that...this was the difference between pre-resurrection and post-resurrection, not being able to communicate :(

Yup! Each of them became a product of their environment, hence the saying no one is born evil.

See my background is South Asian so I mostly grew up watching shows from that region. But being from New York, I slowly started to branch out. American shows are good but they don't quiet capture my intense interest. Then beginning of high school I remember I had Korean friends who introduced to me my new world of Korean dramas and Kpop. That was such a long time ago but I wish someone did that with me regarding Chinese dramas. I came in very late as you can see but I'm glad I came across CQL and gave it a try.
Among everything going on in 2020, one thing I really appreciate is watching this drama. A lot has been happening personally and professionally but CQL kept me grounded. In a way, it rescued me. I have not experienced a moment before where a show can literally help me go through so much. I know it sounds exaggerated but trust me, this drama is a gem! Which is why I'll never able to forget this drama. It came to me when I needed it the most. There are some situation I can certainly relate to, parts where it made me think about so many situation in real life.
This drama is a precious gift that is going to be a timeless classic in future!

And I absolutely agree with everything you said about CQL.

Honestly Wei Ying and Lan Zhan's story is one of the most epic love stories I have ever witnessed. I can truly see Lan Zhan waiting for eternity even if just to catch a glimpse (ಥ﹏ಥ)

Apart from wwx and lwj, which characters character development do you love the most?
Jin Guangyao, Xue Yang and Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan! Sorry I just had to mention the last two ^_^
Apart from Lan Zhan, what I really love about all the other three, they are all parallels and shades of each other. All were street children/orphans, were hated by the world and had their men in white or the lights of their lives. Depending on how many 'people' they had in life, it affected their development. All were pretty bent over something. WWX with his selflessness of steel, JGY over achieving his mother's dying wish and XY on getting revenge against the world. Nurture is very present with them, especially XY.

You reminded me of a quote: “We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose…
Don't worry I'm not justifying the killing :)
No matter what the reasoning is, killing is wrong one way or another. But sometimes you do have to look at the situation. See lot of people spread rumors about him killing 3000 cultivators (which was true) and how he was evil but no on even bothered to find out why he took certain actions. They just straight up assumed that he abandoned his clan because he wanted to build his 'own' clan with his evil ways. But why did he resort to those 'evil' ways :(
You're absolutely right though. There's no straight or right answer. This is why I love this story!
