In addition to the props being displayed in a museum, another feat CQL accomplished was its farewell concert sold…
I was not a huge fan of Chinese dramas. I tried two historical Chinese drama . First one was Princess Wei Young. I really liked that one but then the second one I watched or rather dropped was Scarlet Heart. Ever since then I stopped watching Chinese dramas, which wasn't fair of me because it was just one drama. Then there was also the hype around it. It reminded of Descendant of the Sun. I thought it'd be really good because of how popular it was and I was so disappointed by it. Hence my hesitation starting CQL.

Yes I watched the farewell videos and I became so emotional! The characters they played will stay in their heart forever. They lived in those characters and brought out so many emotions, they had an unforgettable experience.

That Lan Zhan edit! I CAN'T! It's so beautiful! Honestly Wei Ying and Lan Zhan's story is one of the most epic love stories I have ever witnessed! I don't think I will ever forget their story. Not till the day I die atleast XD

And my Jiang Cheng...sigh....that precious puppy! I love that guy so much!

How much will I miss and what scenes if I watch the 20 episode version instead of this?I've a really hard time…
I'm usually the person that can't watch a 50 episode drama but for CQL, I would watch all the 50 episodes to fully appreciate the drama. There are so many details and complexity with all the characters with all the actions they take, even the mini ones, it doesn't even feel like 50 episodes.
The way the actors and makers executed the story to bring it to life elevated the whole story line. Then again it's totally upto you :)

I downloaded the whole audio drama so I can take my with this as well XD
I already want to rewatch the drama even though I haven't started the special edition one yet. But I'm watching the bts scenes as well and trying to see what Wangxian details I missed so when I watch it again I'll keep my eyes open for them.
I wonder when will that day come when CQL isn't on my mind 24/7...

Exactly! None of the characters fall in just black or white. That's the thing though. Not everyone will see him as bad person even in novel. Because he doesn't choose his family but instead chose to do what he thinks is right, many people saw that as 'bad'. He did those 'bad' deeds but for what reason? And why are they considered bad? Lol I'm thinking like Lan Zhan now

Was there ever a drama that held a concert like this? I can't think of any. WOW! 5 seconds! I can't imagine the excitement all the fans felt at that time! To be honest, at the time, I saw CQL trending but I didn't pay much attention to it thinking it's not really my cup of tea. What a big lie that was! I'm so glad you share these links because I truly enjoy them!

And the WangXian detail...that is mind-blowing! I didn't know about it until now. No wonder why Lan Zhan kept asking if he'll able to control himself. I thought it was because he knew what Wei Ying is doing isn't really the right cultivators way but at the same time he felt worried. But I didn't realize how much until this comparison was pointed out. It makes I wonder how many hidden detail the makers hid. I would like to see all of them.

I think I can say I love CQL more than MDZS. Now don't get me wrong, I love love MDZS. It was beautiful. Without MDZS, CQL would've never happened. Of course, there are parts in the book that I liked more than the way it shown in the drama. But CQL hit a little different. CQL basically elevated the already amazing MDZS to a height that any other drama will have hard time reaching.

For example, I think Wei Ying's trauma is something the CQL did better than the novel, mostly because of the structure of the novel. In the novel, the timeline is out of order, so you see Wei Ying as Yiling Patriarch before knowing how he got there, whereas in the drama, you get to see his development from past until the time he becomes Yiling Patriarch.

I also appreciated how the female characters had been given more screen time and story in the drama compared to the novel. MDZS used the strategy of telling instead of showing when it comes to them (how we’re told that Wen Qing is an amazing healer instead of seeing it first, and how everything about Jiang Yanli is narrated to the audience instead of getting to know her). Meanwhile CQL shows their strengths and weaknesses, their personalities, it lets us get to know them right as they appear.

Jiang Yanli’s relationship with both her brothers is wonderfully established just by having her with them on their trip to Cloud Recess, which brings me to the Yunmeng trio. Their bond were such an endearing aspect of the drama. It really is amazing to see the length they would go to for each other.

As for Jiang Cheng, in the book , he was known to search for Wei Wuxian, possible bodies possessed by WWX, and demonic cultivators and torturing them to death. He would even prefer to do that to innocents instead of taking the risk of letting a guilty person go. CQL managed to change his character by showing emotions other than hate and satisfaction at the idea of killing his brother (we even get emotional music and a flashback to the death scene). This makes his anger seem more similar to the one directed at Jin Ling (and so could stem from love).

Would love to know what everyone else thinks.

And I just found that their props were displayed in a museum exhibition...the fact that CQL did that is mind-blowing!

All this villain talk made me think of how our beloved wei wuxian is a villain in so many people's narrative so,…
You reminded me of a quote: “We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are.” Wei Wuxian chose to act on what he thought was right. It seemed bad on other people's perspective.

I"M OFFICIALLY DONE!

I don't know how to feel. Can you believe just to make sure the last episode is special, after I did the dismissal of my students and did office hours and everything, I stayed back extra time to watch it on my big smart board screen in my classroom. While at the same time facetiming my sister because we started this amazing journey together so we finished it together. When they started showing the flashback of how Jiang Cheng revealed himself to the Wen clan soldiers, I started crying. I was already tearing up because it was the last episode. By the time episode 50 ended, I was a mess. If someone walked in at the time, they would've thought someone died.

I feel so empty right now. Don't get me wrong. This is one of the best experience I've had while watching something but at the same time, I'm soooo sad that it ended. I don't know what to do with my life anymore TT_TT

Now coming to the ending, I personally loved it. It stayed true to their characters (Not saying the novel's ending wasn't good. It was great. I loved that one as well).
The idea of both Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan living clear of conscience has been reiterated time and again throughout the drama. During the years of WWX’s absence, he was probably acting the most out of character since he seemed to have more or less shirked his duties as Gusulan Sect’s esteemed Hanguan-Jun. Even Jin Guangyao mentioned that he never attended any of the big cultivation meetings. So for the past decade and a half Lan Zhan’s really been just living his own life, off on his own quest, and probably leaving all the major responsibilities of his sect to his brother and uncle.

I also appreciated the fact that even though WWX looked downright heart-broken when he realized LWJ wasn’t going to explore the world with him (yet), it seems like he had actually stayed with Lan Zhan until he became Chief Cultivator, which probably didn’t happen overnight. During their time of separation, WWX can be the one missing and pining after LWJ instead. Also the fact when Wei Ying hears his name being called, he actually looks shocked, which clearly indicates he never expected Lan Zhan to appear at all, which means they didn’t plan this reunion, that Lan Zhan just magically found Wei Ying again.

Maybe he finished the duties he wanted to fulfil and can finally join Wei Ying on his journey.
Another reason I felt like Lan Zhan became the chief cultivator is because of We Ying. The promise they made together to help fight evil and the weak. He's keeping it this way.

I CAN"T MOVE ON. Actually I won't move on. Now onto special edition and the audio drama and everything else!

If I'm given a chance to erase part of my memory, I would erase this drama. So I can experience the journey of watching this drama again TT_TT

I finished the novel and I'm on episode 48 of the drama. I'm already starting to feel empty. Aiyooo. I made a draft for a review. I forgot the last time I wrote a review for a drama...
Butttt EPISODE 45/46 took my heart!
When Wen Ning realize that Lan ShiZu is little Wen Yuan! I just wanna give him a giant hug, this big cutie turnip!
That scene was really emotional for me. Two teenagers represented two of Wei Ying's side. To me Jin Ling represented Wei Ying’s greatest mistake/guilt as he finally let out his grief about losing his parents. On the other hand Sizhui, the sole living descendant of the hated Wen Sect, represents Wei Ying’s immense kindness. Wei Ying’s internal struggle was clearly shown in his expression. This is why I love Xiao Zhan! To show that without saying a word...'chef's kiss'
And when Uncle Lan realizes Wei Ying is wearing Lan Zhan's under shirt after he took it off to put the marks on him...LOL
The big reveal part! To be honest I've never hated Jiang Cheng. To me he's one of the most understood character in the show. He doesn't know how to properly express himself due to how he was raised. He was raised into thinking he'd always be inferior. He always expressed his love through his temperament. He was so conflicted of his emotions on WY, at the same time he was also grieving for the lose of his entire clan and given so much responsibility that he let his anger got the better part of him. Actually, Jiang Cheng is one of the most lonely character in this story. When he was little, he didn't have any friends due to his temperament. He had to send his only friends (the dogs) due to Wei Wu Xian fear of dogs. But then, he got friend in WWX which means everything to him. WWX is more than just a friend to him, he is his brother and trusted one. If you notice, he has no other friend than WWX. Along with Jiang Yan Li, he has beautiful life and dreams. Then, his world is destroyed, he lost his parents, JY, his golden core, and WWX. I honesty can't believe the hate his character receives.
I'll come back to Xiao Zhan. His acting is really on point, my heart was twisted around when Wei Ying forced himself to calm down and swallow the pain physically and emotionally! Then there's Lan Zhan! Wang Yibo doesn't have many line yet he made the character so compelling! That boy didn't shed a single damn tear whilst getting whipped 300 times but cries a river over his husband! I cannot and the scene in the lake! GOD DAMN IT! When Lan Zhan gave the lotus seed while Wen Ning be straight third wheeling haha. I want to try some now!

Episode 47 where Lan Zhan is protecting Wei Ying even from Fairy! Sigh...

PS: The last extra chapter of the novel when I found out Lan Zhan cooked for him...I literally squealed! Yes just like the drama, I will keep going back to reading the novel many times after I start with the audio drama.
