Just wanted to provide the visuals for your post if you don't mind :)https://twitter.com/cuchallain/status/1144298362293948418
ajdajdgedkad I still can't believe how missed this the first time I watched it when it was staring at me right there! And the fact that CQL made wangxian gayer in the intro than the novel with censor breathing on their neck...respect!
This is a great drama and I see why so many people talk about it. I've only seen about 12 episodes but I was sucked…
I actually took my time watching it because I couldn't find time like you and guess what, I'm glad I did. Because now I miss it so much now (even though I'm in the middle of rewatching it)
"If someone was there to catch him, it'd be more than wonderful." T_T https://mylastbraincql.tumblr.com/post/632214715187249152/if-he-catches-me-ill-untamed-fall-fest
We always talk about how Lan Zhan kind of confessed his feelings by composing the song, Wangxian and singing for him in the cave but hear me out. WWX only heard the song once at that time and he wasn't even fully conscious! Yet 16 years later, he specifically chose to play that song when thinking about Lan Zhan right after resurrection...if that's not love I don't know what is (=^_^=)
picking top 3 wangxian scenes might be the hardest thing i've ever had to oh god
Tell me about it! I'm trying to think of another couple I like and I'm telling you I can easily pick out a favorite scene of them but Wangxian...I give up!
I did the same exact thing going through the list xD They're all so good and important to the different stages…
Right! Then not to mention their duet scene because I will never forget the way they looked at each other and Lan Zhan's smirk. I would blush if I could while watching that scene lol Then there's also the scene of WWX's core reveal! That tear god damn it!
I look at that list and I thought to myself 'wait a minute that scene deserves to be in top 10 and this scene too and this one as well..." As you can imagine I pretty much said it for all of them. It is truly hard to rank them. Does anyone have any favorites? (yes yes I know it's hard)
Though I will say the unofficial confession is my top Wangxian scene (along with all the other wangxian scene). The world literally melts away so they can have their conversation before they starting fighting their way out again hehe. The way Lan Zhan stood up for WWX front of everyone and allluding to my favorite quote by WWX. He’s made his choice and he knows where his heart and his conscience lies, and that’s that. This whole scene/exchange was incredibly powerful and speaks to how in tune with each other they’ve become. It was after this Wei Ying was able to open his heart to acknowledging and embracing the love and trust between the two of them.
As I'm typing this, I'm thinking of other wangxian scenes and why they're my favorite...alright time to stop!
Hi. I'm curious as to why until what episode did you watch it upto? Because I didn't like the drama when I first started it but now I can't seem to move on from it and I never will :) One of my friend dropped it as well and let's say I had to motivate her to pick it up and guess what she blames me now for running her life lol (because of good it is). She thought it was ok until about episode 30 and then after that boom she couldn't stop watching. Whereas I have another friend who watched it 7 times already. Don't ask me how lol. I'm in the path of getting more people into it
As for the factors you mentioned, let's see. I actually read the book after I finished the drama and in my opinion, the drama elevated the book even more. CQL basically elevated the already amazing MDZS to a height that any other drama will have hard time reaching. As @Joryenai mentioned to me once, "the MDZS novel is like the original cheese pizza...while it is tasty in its own right, I prefer the Hawaiian BBQ pizza (i.e. Untamed). Although I acknowledge that the BBQ pizza would not come to be without the cheese pizza first establishing its presence, I still prefer the flavor of the Hawaiian BBQ when presented with both options."
As for both of them being idols, when I started this drama, I had no knowledge of Chinese drama let alone these two actors. Only after I became fascinated with the drama, did I find out that they're idols. Trust me when I tell you that these two portrayed their characters perfectly. No one else could've done Lan Zhan's and Wei Ying's characters perfectly. You have to watch all the episode to understand why majority of people here feels that way. Xiao Zhan's acting is so versatile, he brings out the lead character's many many layers with such efficiency, it gives me goosebumps. Wang Yibo on the other hand is pure LOVE. His subtle expressions speak volumes for the character, making him irresistible. It would be not fair if I don’t mention the contribution of all the supporting actors-who are all simply marvelous and are top quality assets to the whole plot! Alongside becoming completely invested in the two main characters, you start to love nearly the whole cast.
It is completely based on your preference but to me yes it's one of the best romance drama out there. Below is an excerpt from my review of the drama :) "The production team seems to have fought for the most romantic interpretation of the show it could get away with. They’re brilliant. Even without stating the relationship as explicitly romantic, this drama managed to show how pure the love between Wei Ying and Lan Zhan is. There are simply too many amazing scenes with them where their relationship transcends the limitations allowed in the script, as seen in the actor’s choices when delivering not only lines, but body language choices and implications behind movement in general. It shows that love can be shown and felt without saying the words “I love you,” and sometimes it’s trailing off sentences that imply more than they are able to say. The Untamed heightens every interaction between them, cementing the idea for me that this is one of the most epic love stories I have ever witnessed. It isn’t every day you see a slow burn like this, and I for one, cherished every moment of it."
As for how meaningful and deep it is, I will give you an example of a character. For example, take Yao clan leader, he is basically a character who always spoke out in different situations. To me he seemed similar to an influential internet celebrity who is keen to express opinions irresponsibly on hot events in reality. He does not necessarily hold the power of life and death, but he can influence the direction of public opinion within a certain range, and kill people with a single mouth. In every hot news comment, we can find such a person, who speaks justly, as if he was on the scene when the incident happened. If public opinion causes serious consequences, he must feel that he is the innocent snowflake that drifts in the wind, he is just exercising his right to freedom of speech. Just like this character, almost all characters in this drama is relatable in a way you can see in society. I personally am going through something in my life right now and the way I can relate to Lan Zhan and Wei Ying is something I will never forget. Let's just say it is hard to move away from something your society has been used to. They expect you to follow their way but once you voice your own opinion and it's different from theirs, the reaction from them is very hurtful. This drama was perfectly able to show that. It’s a story of self-sacrifice and betrayal, abandonment and retribution, guilt and forgiveness, and the acceptance of responsibility for actions. Choosing to stand together for love and for what is right no matter the consequences; living with regret, and living despite regret.
Anyway sorry for making this post super long. But I hope you can give this drama a try until the end. If you still don't end up liking it, that's ok. It's just not your cup of tea :)
This thanksgiving beside being thankful for continuing to survive through this pandemic and the significant people in my life, another thing I would like to add is this masterpiece CQL and everyone who bought it to life. I came across this beautiful classic piece this year and I will forever be grateful for it <3
