I just watched AvenueX's live where she was being super brutal about ZLH's acting. Made me scratch my head because although there were things I noticed that he needs to work on, I thought he acted well the emotional scenes. Not as bad as she's leading people who aren't watching the drama to believe. And maybe this is how it is in China, it just takes a few bloggers to post black materials and people get led by the nose. I feel like the internet likes to jump on hate bandwagons.
I think sitting in a studio dubbing over lines makes it less natural than saying the lines as you're acting. Maybe that's the reason for the robotic-ness.

I think it’s because they see the potential threat since he’s so good looking with actual acting skills, so they’re trying harder to sabotage him before he really blows up. For someone so new, he’s already got quite a lot of projects on his resume. You know they’re all fighting for good projects for their favorites. Ever since MJTY, they love comparing him to the second leads and saying how he’ll get outshined by second lead again. I saw them doing it with WXY when Kunning first started and it’s so satisfying now that his character is so loved to give them a slap in the face lol.

It was hard watching it while it was airing because I was exposed to all the negativity from weibo and other places. It definitely lowered my enjoyment because I was frustrated for him as an actor. However, now that that period is over, you can watch it in one go in peace, you won't experience the same thing as his fans did. You'll probably notice some things, but it won't be amplified by outside noise. I also don't recommend watching the last five minutes of the last episode. It turns it from a good ending to a "wtf" ending. ZLH looked amazing in it and his acting very much embodied the character as well. So I think it's worth checking out.
After seeing all their interactions in fan cams and how their outfits coincidentally coordinated at scream night, I really need him and Tian Xiwei to have a modern drama together. They look so good together visually.
