Watching this was so refreshing. Don't get me wrong, I love all bl dramas, but I needed so badly one where they tackled some real issues, like being a single parent or being bullied for your sexuality. RoW did this and more. The fact that Shi Yi Jie didn't try to hide Fei Sheng Zhe in the closet; the fact neither one of them was ashamed of their relationship; the fact that they!actually!got!married OMG. I could be singing this show praises all night. I want to show this to all the homophobic people I know so they see that having two dads isn't going to traumatize the kid. FFS!
After watching the movie i think that the purpose could be to show something that could look like method acting…
Thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this. On the surface it may seem like they got too deeply into the method, but all the directorial choices point in another direction. It's too rushed, yes, but she gives you enough to fill in the gaps. How one chooses to interpret it, that depends on the viewer :)
When u listen to what the director says, it seems like she really wanted to show something "realistic"...But to…
What I find fascinating about this movie is how the director leaves a lot of room to interpretation. We don't know why Yeong-woo was looking down at his fans in the first scene. Is he tired of being an idol? We also don't know what motivates him to start taking the role seriously. And how he and Jae-ha go from mild annoyance towards e/o to having a date in the beach. Or how were their interactions in Jae-ha's house. That's why I believe they tried to find good things about each other to get into their roles and somehow developed feelings. And I agree with you. There's no way YW was acting all along. I can be wrong though! I wish someone else would sub this

And Yeong Woo... omg that kid couldn't act for the life of him. He didn't even want to be there. Are you telling me he went from hating the play to getting competitive and besting a veteran actor? lol ok

For me, the biggest sign that Jae-ha wasn't acting was his notebook. According to the director of Unchain, Jae-ha uses it to write every detail of his characters. Later, Hee-won finds it empty. if he was method acting and then got too involved, how come there wasn't a single line written? I could analyse every minute, I loved it so much xD But the bottom line is, every scene leads you to believe they fell in love (or lust) while preparing for the play. If the two mains were a man and a woman there wouldn't be a discussion in the first place.

I know, but I highly doubt she'd sleep with a co-star to feel a connection lol Despite all this, I really, really loved it. I've been obsessed with this plot way before this movie even existed and this was exactly what I had in mind. It also helps that the actors' chemistry is off the charts xd

Ming and Kit totally stole the show
