On Idol Producer Nov 4, 2021
I started watching this while it was ongoing in 2018 but I was not much of an idol survival show kind of person back then but now I really want to pick it up again. I remember watching the first maybe 4 or five episodes and thinking Cai Xukun will hit big and damn he really has grown so much since

Am I the only one who doesn't actually 'hate' the final line-up. I honestly don't think it's disastrous or anything, agree it could have been better and more diverse but although I'm disappointed I'm not surprised. In terms of "global Kpop group" honestly every show uses the word global these days, and the outcome is usually just a couple foreign members, so putting hopes on a fair distribution would've resulted in disappointment. I was hoping for at least one more c-girl but I am really not surprised. Ultimately their main target audience would be Koreans, and I know for sure the Koreans won't be happy with a mostly foreign line-up. When shows use the term global I think they just mean, we'll let them audition, participate and let the whole world vote but in the end this is is a KOREAN pop group. I wouldn't say I'm happy with that thought but I get where they are coming from with it. Nevertheless, C-group deserved far better treatment, and J-group deserved more attention.

As for the final members individually I honestly don't have anything bad to say about them. All 18 finalists were very talented, I wish some girls debuted but I wouldn't say instead of others. Like it's a shame to me that Yurina or Bora did not make it, however I wouldn't bring another girl down to say they deserved it more as I think they all worked hard and deserve a spot in the lineup. I also have to mention that it may sound like I'm indirectly talking about Bahiyyih here so let me address that. I don't think her having the 'benefit' of being a popular idol group member's sister is anything bad, like I wish Hiyyih Stans could realise this. You can't deny she had a huge push because of the sibling relation, and that is nothing bad at all, to me it's just like there are girls who have debuted before and already have a fanbase voting for them so arguably that could be just as 'unfair'. As a sort of fan (don't think I'm as dedicated to them as other moas) of TXT myself Hiyyih was not my one pick (I voted Youngeun) but I'm so happy to see that she debuted, and honestly yes a lot of votes may be from her brother but I would also argue that she has enough talent to have her own fans, whether or not they were introduced to her through Kai, they have now become her own fans who have been very loyal to her and she is lucky to have them. I don't care that she's second since I feel like placements other than centre doesn't really matter. Would I have put her there? No. Am I happy for her? Absolutely. I feel like we can't place too much emphasis on talent in these shows, in the end it is a popularity contest where all participants are talented, it's just a matter of who is most liked.

Overall Mnet did definitely do the foreign groups dirty, no doubt about it, but I am not surprised. Although I don't like the lack of diversity, it was definitely expected and kind of makes sense for a K-Pop group to have mostly Korean members (still wished for one more c-girl though). Sorry for the long paragraphs, but thought I would share a more positive opinion, I don't see many people supporting or being happy with the lineup but I guess I'm just looking at this light-heartedly. In the end I think people will love this group, the girls individually are talented sweethearts and once they've moved past the 'survival show' era and onto their proper debuted 'idol group' era people will see them as one whole.

It's alright, don't force yourself to go through something if you don't want to. Everyone has different tastes,…
I've seen that mentioned in different places might take a look. And yeah I don't really mind the length of the drama, I think I just like meaningful shows. Like my top ones are either slice of life, more realistic with great characters and character development, or the heartwarming progression of some sort of team/group even if they're different genres they all have a lot in common.

I am genuinely struggling to watch this show. I started months ago, watched the first 5 episodes dropped it picked it up again today and am considering dropping it again. I feel like it just all seems so silly. I started bc of the hype and high rating but low-key disappointed. I won't say I hate it nor that it is a bad drama, probably just isn't my cup of tea. I had higher expectations but I am just so bored. I can agree it's definitely funny but like the top review states it kind of takes away from the interesting plot and ruins my immersion, I've just gotten tired of it and it seems overused at times. Anyways this is going back onto my on-hold list until maybe one day I feel like I should finally finish it

it wasn't Mnet, it was masters... but it was just 0.33 points ugh!!
I totally agree. it sucks to see these professionals being doubted when it’s literally their job but it’s not the job of the viewers to research who those people are and judge whether they are good trainers since the show makes it seem like they do nothing. honestly makes them look so bad but I hope more people can understand that they’re probably getting more training than we see from the masters

I see a lot of people saying this but unfortunately that's all mnet shows. If you remember that one clip where the dance master, Back Koo Young, went up to help the Fate team giving them advice on how to come up with better ideas for their choreo, or when he went backstage to see a team before their performance, I'd assume there is a lot more of that in the background that remains unaired. Mnet only cares about the drama, especially in this show for some reason (I feel like the PD series showed more training than this show does), and probably doesn't care about the actual technical advice they get. With a time slot of not even two hours and so many performances to get through they use the masters to point out the good and the bad then throw in a Montage of practice before the performance. Not to mention the focus is on the trainees rather than the masters so they don't want to waste time with their words since they can just show progress from the practice to the performance. So I'd say blame mnet's editing and not their choice of masters, all of their credentials are very high as people who choreograph and vocally coach for professional idol groups so I wouldn't say they aren't good at training since we don't even get to see most of it.

BTW this is mainly about the professional trainers, as for Sunmi and Tiffany, I can't tell if they're just choosing not to air their advice or if they were invited just because they wanted some popular current idols.

This is not directed to the trainees, as I haven't even watched a single episode of this, but until when are we…
This survival show is totally different to the PD series as they are in their respective companies and will have a more permanent contract rather than the temporary contracts of the PD series. Survival shows in general are harsh but in a marketing prospect, it's a good idea for the group to earn fans before debut, and it really improves the trainees skills in a short period of time so it saves the company's time as well. What happened to X1 is the fault of the producers, and this show is not only a different production team but also a totally different broadcasting company, so I feel like it's quite pointless to compare the two. However take that comment to GP999 and you'll probably have better conversations there hahah (though I'm pretty sure their production team is different to PD series but we all know about the snake mnet). However survival shows will keep going for a long time and despite our complaints against them most of us end up watching them anyways right.

ICE CREAM TEAM!! I was so happy watching that team it just felt so complete from the moment they began practice to the stage performance, no dramas just girls with the same goal reaching for the best performance. And Dayeon's leadership was so nice to watch, often mnet makes leaders with the killing part super greedy and over controlling but they couldn't even evil edit with this team because Dayeon was so considerate of the other girls and though she did most of the work it wasn't to the point where she was being bossy or anything and the team was happy and followed her really well. And Ikema Ruan, I honestly didn't know of her until she received the planet pass so I wonder if it was just Mnet who didn't give her much screen time or me who just couldn't remember but either way she worked so hard after the criticism, and Dayeon of course led her well and made sure to help her out as much as she can, and then on stage it was just perfect. Like this team was just complete, I genuinely have nothing to criticise lmao

I agree. From the first time I saw him, I thought that he would be a really good solo artist. Also about koki,…
I love seeing Psy's genuine nature on this show, he truly loves these boys and they are now the eldest sons of his company. I feel like he'll be a very understanding CEO, and especially with the nature of his company I believe these kids will still be able to enjoy their youth despite the list of things they had to give up. Even the staff seem like they care so much for them and hope for their happiness and success. I just hope those who didn't watch LOUD don't judge them, especially Koki, too much.

I know a lot of people are upset about Daniel but honestly I think when he said being an idol doesn't really suit him he was being genuine there. He has a soloist vibe, and also a self-producing vibe. I don't think he'd be too into the whole fan service, character and standards of being an idol (I'm not saying he can't do it I'm saying that I'm not sure if he would enjoy it as much). I'm sad to see him go but he is active again on Insta and Youtube so continue to support him there!! Plus after this show, who knows he might get so much more opportunities and he has learnt so much I'm sure.
As for the concerns of Koki I wholeheartedly agree the boy is so young, the image difference doesn't match the group of the older teens and sticks out so much. However, we've watched him for so long, and I've just sort of gotten used to him lmaooo. I mean let's hope he gets a growth spurt in the next year to balance that out, and his voice breaks and he can manage that with vocal lessons so he doesn't sound like that one child. And most importantly I hope the company doesn't make him do any concepts that are inappropriate for his age. Pretty sure most of the group are minors anyway but we know the Kpop industry doesn't care as long as they're in high school. However Koki is barely the age of a middle schooler in Korea. The company just has to manage him well, so I guess through this group and especially how they handle Koki we'll see how good of a company PNation is when it comes to idol groups, it is there first time though so I wouldn't expect perfection.

my thoughts exactly, as someone who loves to watch character development, and meaningful stories, shows that are just full of action takes away from the value in my opinion

I'm more talking about the type that is made just for violence. I personally do enjoy shows that have fighting, like you said in historical dramas and wuxia dramas especially however, there are some shows that have just a lot of fighting and not much of a plot. However, if there is a proper plot and the characters are well written then it can be quite enjoyable I agree

Ugh so true. I personally love Slice of Life dramas, my favourite genre. I don't understand the action packed, mindless violence nonsense, how does that make a good story, such unrealistic and unnecessary fighting. Whereas shows like this are either super relatable or touching, tugs at our heart strings and also really makes you think about your own life sometimes. You can even mature through watching these shows as your mindset widens. Those action packed shows might be thrilling but how long can you be entertained with constant fight scenes with the same outcome, probably just as cliche as rom coms too. Anyways this drama is truly worthy of its rating and I'm glad majority of the viewers know it

UPDATE!! I FINISHED. It was beautiful, I was smiling the whole time and yes my cheeks still hurt hahah. Also the rocket launch was so much more emotional than I thought like hey we really did watch him go from his teenage dreamer, to almost giving up to working super hard and to finally accomplishing his dream. And QJJ was a wonderful support and fun character, who was playful yet mature (we even got to see her maturity grow since the beginning). I don't know how to move on from here :((

I just finished and I LOVED IT. Do not understand what the comment below me is talking about because this show was a gem. I was actually looking for a light rom com when I came across this and who would have thought I found something even better. I miss this couple so much already and it hasn't even been a minute since I finished. I can't stop smiling that my cheeks hurt, actually one of the sweetest couples ever, and the way they both matured throughout the show and just the chemistry was amazing. I'm so thankful to have come across this drama by chance the day that the last two episode were subbed (I don't know how I would watch it if it was ongoing waiting each week would be torture). Totally forgotten about YY in Love O2O now, I only know YAMG. Wow just another beautiful drama that makes all the other ones I watched look average. How to get over this one now :((
Onto trying to find a rebound drama lmaooo

HAHAHHA POOR LEO. So true though, we were robbed of our intimate moments in TLB but I think that couple was beautiful in a different way though, the way they understood each other so perfectly. BUT this one is just TOO SWEET. Even now I just finished episode 22 and I just can't stop I don't want it to end but this couple is so fun to watch, just how can it get better in the next 10 episodes but I'm excited to see. My smile literally has not left since they got together my cheeks hurt, and they're so playful I love it.

I just finished episode 21!! THEY'RE SO CUTE AHHHH. I've been so sick of the cliche rom coms with such childish fights and unrealistically annoying supporting roles or antagonists just for the drama. I am all for this mature romance, they making everything so sweet and it has JUST begun. literally smiling so much right now.

Ahh i’m on episode 18 now we’re almost there. Honestly seeing him longing for her is so sad (usually when someone distance themselves from the love interest i usually find it annoying but this time i totally understand him thinking he’s not good enough so doesn’t want to disappoint her so i’m more sad with him than being annoyed) I can’t wait until they meet again
