Oooo. That's an interesting change. Didn't read the novel so... But I liked how the screenwriter structured that sequence. Because while FTY eventually is the one who forces herself to 🤮, she wouldn't have had the presence of mind to do it had ZL not been there. I mean she was probably weak, in pain, grieving her maid, angry, terrified of dying so ZL telling her to "stop crying and help yourself" was a much needed help.

I think the rest of the series will be mostly the ML. They changed the FL-centric novel into a ML-centric one for this adaptation. We're only 4 eps in. There's 32 more. Maybe wait until after episode 36 to see if the series would in fact have less ML screen time than what they supposedly promised.

The way I saw it, because she was a widow, she had to play the part of the chaste, loyal widow for more than a decade and that ate her up. She felt lonely, discarded and resentful towards the Fu family. She saw the marriage to TingYun as a way to establish her family line into the Fu family as well as to ger back at the matriarch Fu.
Peeked at the previews for eps 5-8 and I am liking what I'm seeing of Zhao Ling's character arc and the development of the two leads' relationship. Crossing my fingers it would be great!
Just finished 4 eps and dang I am now so invested in this. Started out slow, building the story and background of FL but good pace. I may be biased but DYX and DEX's first scene together, like face to face, was absolute tension I loved it! These first 4 episodes focused on giving background to Fu Ting Yun's character and DEX acting is so on point! I need the next episodes right now!

I think they were just building the premise and anchor of the story in these 4 episodes that's why it focused more on TingYun's story. The preview of the next 4 episodes shows more of Zhao Ling's arc as expected based on the synopsis.

Ooo for me, one of the things I really liked about YX was that when she realized that SD didn't recognize/remember her and after that disaster of a wedding night, and that chopstick incident, she only focused on putting herself in a position where she can get out of the marriage (hence the bet with the divorce as the price) and buying time for her family not to be exhiled (hence the 3 month time). She didn't waste time trying to make SD like her or open herself to someone who clearly said "you're not the one I want to marry". So when SD started falling for her and she was basically just gritting through and surviving, there was this distance, maybe a wall, that she placed between them that I think SD was partially responsible for building as well. So that's why I was completely okay with her not "showing" her affection at the first half before the whole confession thing. Because after that, when both of them laid out all their feelings, girl was clingy!!! And yeah, before that confession, I really enjoyed those scenes where SD was like being affectionate and YX gets all confused "why is he being sweet it's so weird halp!"
