It's okay! you don't have to force yourself to watch this one if it isn't working out for you ☺️ there are…
I am seeing your comment now - and you'd be happy to know that I did give heed to the advice of others and watched till Ep 3 - and now am ALL in this drama! I think it was the slow pace in the beginning that had put me off. Thank you for your perspective, I am loving this drama as well now. Happy Watching to us!
First episode wasn't that great as such. For me I was hooked from episode 3. To each their own I guess. But I…
I was not aware this is the first work of the screenwriter, that's an interesting trivia too. I ended up watching till Ep 3 - and I am liking it now. The pace has finally picked up. I think that was the issue - too many characters added in, and your mind wanders here and there - but the pacing was snail-paced. For me, since am very used to neck-jerking speed dramas usually. Glad that I gave it a go - and thank you for your perspective.
The character quirks - I am okay with; my eyes are kind of glued on to the visuals of BWS and at times Steve Noh 😅 and ofc the Queen Mother - she might be antagonist-y rn, but she's so beautiful. I have seen her many works, the latest one being KARMA where she played a villain character. I hope there are more layers to her character in this one. FL - yes, I am not a huge fan of IU in such roles, but then I know its what the story demands - and I am okay with it, if not in love with her character.
Regarding the negative reaction to comments, yes, its the unfortunate side of a forum like MDL. I try to take it in my stride now, but yes, prefer giving fair warning.
ofc .. not everyone likes this genre or this type of cliche romance im a sucker for it but I would say that the…
OMG! Thank you so much for taking the time and checking it. Yes, it did take sometime - early days of MDL had me go all the way in, and now I just keep updating it, whenever creativity strikes! :)
But thanks to your comment I realised that with the new changes in MDL the formatting has all been lost :( Guess time to revamp it a bit
oh wow he’s the lover in the art of sarah!!!! I thought it was my first time seeing him and I just checked his…
I am not sure if he is/was an idol or trainee. I know he was a model and then have seen him only in these 3 dramas so far - Hierarchy, The Art of Sarah and now Yumi's Cells 3. In fact a small cameo role in another favorite drama of mine "The Trauma Code" - but mainly these 3 is where he is a main cast and I have seen and recall him very well.
Our Blues - I checked his filmography and yes, he is there in that too. Good catch!
Im not sure why start your post with "dont come for me"? this is personal preference, if you are not feeling…
Oh I have been at MDL since a long time, and while there is a lot of good mostly, there has also been a lot of bad. While most people are very receptive of different perspectives especially from their own - there are times, especially for dramas like this that are airing and very popular across social media, where people get very passionate and just not want to hear any views apart from them. I have literally had a lot of hate from some users in the past - and thankfully other users and I have reported them cause they got to the point of abusive. And so I began my comment the way I did - that please don't hate me, it is just another perspective that I have.
Yes, MDL is more like a sounding board - always has been, so I usually like such a drama and trope, the fact that I am not I came here to check the reviews, rating and comments. Since my perspective is different from most - I decided to sound it off. And good that I did - now I have got some good tips - to check the episode rating and to at least try till Ep 3 and if not, then I know its not my current cup of tea and I can come back later to it.
Seems silly just to try and force yourself to watch something you clearly don't enjoy if you've already tried…
Oh no - not that kind of FOMO. I have been away from MDL since long, and also was going through a drama slump. But March/April onwards there are a lot of dramas I am looking forward to catch-up. And one of the best things of watching dramas - is discussing it with dear friends here on MDL :)
And Perfect Crown is one of those dramas that has a lot of interaction, and which is why I wanted to watch it as it airs and discuss it with MDLers here. But as I am struggling to watch this drama, I also came and read the ratings and comments and everyone is loving it, so I felt a little confused and therefore tried a couple of times. When it didn't click I thought to voice it here - and so grateful for all the lovely perspectives like yours, and I think let me try to watch till Ep 3. IF not, no worries, I will come back to it later. But yes, the FOMO will slightly be there for having missed a discussion with other MDLers on this drama :)
Let me give it a try till Ep 3 and see how it goes and thanks again for writing back and giving in to my whimsical thoughts 🥹
First episode wasn't that great as such. For me I was hooked from episode 3. To each their own I guess. But I…
I think you are the second person who has also said that it gets better from Ep 3 - so let me try and reach there and see how it goes from there. I agree to each their own thank you for saying that. While I like IU - as an artist, I have not liked these kind of characters that she plays (similar to Hotel Luna).
I am a sucker for such tropes, but I guess it is the multiple characters and slow pace that's throwing me off. Like I know all of these support actors and have loved them in their other dramas - the Queen Mother, his father, the main court ladies, the brother and his wife, the two department heads, and mainly Steve Noh ( he is my reason no. 3 for waiting for this drama). So it's like my eyes are following them and I want them to be a better involved part of the story. And I think they will be its too early to say anything.
Another part is - I think most of such modern/royal setup dramas have a storyline explained - like we see a little backstory and then go into the main story. I am thinking my old favorites like "Goong". The storytelling is more vivid and here we simply jumped in. Maybe that's why I need to watch it a bit more and see if the narrative is something that appeals to me by Ep 3.
And thank you for sharing your perspective. Popular dramas like this tend to have people who don't see anything other than what they like, and sometimes argue or say bad stuff when someone shares a different perspective - which is why I began my comment the way I did.
ofc .. not everyone likes this genre or this type of cliche romance im a sucker for it but I would say that the…
That's what is surprising me - I love such dramas, the whole cliche, contract marriage setup is so me!!! And add to the fact that I love BWS - I should be going crazy for this drama. But I think I understand why as another user has mentioned that the addictive pace picks up from Ep 3 - so let me try till there. If it doesn't click even then, I'll put it on hold and come back to it later.
Oh I love the actor who is playing the brother - he was also there in MR QUEEN and was super hilarious, as he is even now.
"If wishes could kill" - given the genre, totally adding it to my list. Thank you for your perspective and the recommendations ✨
Seems silly just to try and force yourself to watch something you clearly don't enjoy if you've already tried…
OMG - I didn’t think of FOMO in that intense way 😅 Don’t worry, it’s not that serious on my end - I can totally disengage from a drama if it’s not working for me. It’s more about missing the fun, real-time discussions with MDLers while a show is airing.
But yeah, you’re right - if it’s not clicking after three tries, it’s probably best to let it go for now. There are so many other dramas airing anyway, and I can always come back to this one later if the mood hits.
EDIT 2 - Thank you especially to those who said that it gets better from Ep 3. YOU WERE RIGHT! I saw it and now am in this drama completely. I figured out the cause - it was the pacing for me. I am someone who likes fast paced dramas (thrillers/actions/suspense) and even if its a rom-com I like narratives like that flow gradually. You know "Once upon a time...." I think that was an element that was missing, we jumped in and had to see so many characters and hints at some plots - and all the while someone is just coming in and just proposing marriage. I think it was too much at once, and my mind was thinking omg did I place too many expectations and this is just going to be a visual treat and very convoluted story. Thankfully not - I think Ep 3 is what sets the right pace to the story and characters. Glad I did voice out my thoughts here - and thanks to all who commented and shared their views - this is why I Love MDL - and why I had missed it last few months. Excited to catch up the rest now - Ep 4 onwards. I will be back here and share some theories and thoughts 🥰💗
EDIT - thanks all for the comments and the tips shared. Going to try this till Ep 3, and see where it goes from there. Thank you again, I knew I could count on my fellow MDL-ers for being helpful, MDL is a trusted sounding board for me. 🙏🙏🙏
Please don’t come for me - I know I’m about to sound like a traitor to the crown 😭👑 but I need to get this off my chest. If not here on MDL, then where?
I’ve been waiting for "Perfect Crown" mainly because I’m a sucker for royal setups and because of Byeon Woo-seok. I’ve followed him since his model days, watched the wave of love he got after "Lovely Runner", and naturally, I was so ready for his next big moment. But… I’ve now tried three times and I still can’t get past Episode 2.
I knew what I was signing up for - a slightly over-the-top, predictable, visually lush drama. And honestly? I’m usually very okay with that. Give me clichés, give me dramatic entrances, give me sparkly robes - I’ll eat it up. Even with all that, I expected it to be addictive, the kind of show that either makes me binge irresponsibly or stare at the calendar waiting for the next episode.
But somehow… it feels heavy. Episode 1 felt a bit too convoluted for something that’s supposed to be an easy watch. And I hate to say this, but I’m struggling to warm up to IU’s character. I like IU - I really do - but here, something isn’t clicking for me. The constant winking and tongue-clicking? I don’t know if it’s a character quirk I’ll eventually find charming or something that will continue to mildly haunt me.
Now I’m stuck in this internal debate: Do I give it another shot? Or do I respectfully place it in my “watch later when complete” pile?
What’s confusing is that I can’t even pinpoint why it’s not working for me. A while ago, this kind of drama would’ve been my entire personality for weeks. Maybe it’s because I’m currently watching stuff like "The Boys" and "From", and on the K-drama side, "Yumi's Cells" - all of which are pretty fast-paced or tonally different. Maybe my brain is just in a different genre era right now.
And yet - the ratings are soaring, everyone seems to be loving it, and so the struggle is also making me think that I'll feel a bit of FOMO if I don't watch it as it airs - because its always fun to interact here on MDL as a drama progresses.
I can so relate to Soon Rok - Homebody forever!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Really hoping this season does well - especially for KIM JAE WON. Have shared this before - I really disliked or rather did not pay him much attention in the first show I saw him "HIERARCHY" - the drama was terrible. But he really shined - he was handsome, acted well, and quite seductive in "THE ART OF SARAH". I mean Shin Hye Sun is one of my favorite actresses - and to stand on the same level as her or come close, is something I regard very well. Therefore, I am really looking forward to this season of him as SOON ROK - even though in my mind and heart, YOO BABI was endgame and walking green flag for me! #fingers-crossed 🤞🤞🤞
Do I have to watch season 1 & season 2, if I had to watch this??
there are references to Season 2 characters in Season 3. Similarly Season 2 features characters from Season 1. So I'd highly recommend watching it from the start. I myself wanted to start from S2 cause of the ML - Jinyoung, but ended up getting confused in S2 first few episodes, so started from S1.
It really gives you a better understanding about the Cells Universe, and Yumi in depth. Otherwise if you watch from in-between characters will be perplexing and their decisions even more so.
A tip in case you feel like dropping the whole thing before you can reach S3 - fast forward or 10sec skip-skip and watch the episodes. I personally did that at times for S1, S2 was my favourite and I ended up watching it twice before S3 was announced. S3 so far is going well, but since there's time to air and complete more new episodes I think you have good enough time to catch up on S1 and S2. Hope you like them - Happy Watching!
4 years have already passed? I feel as if only yesterday we had heard the news of their marriage and first child - time flies so quickly! Congratulations to the couple!
Omo-omo-Omo! BWS's vein-popping hands and forearms are just something else. The makers of this show know what they are doing. I know it is just the opening episode, but I was getting a little disoriented at he pacing, but the shower scene reset everything. Thanks you, BWS! 😍😍😍
The character quirks - I am okay with; my eyes are kind of glued on to the visuals of BWS and at times Steve Noh 😅 and ofc the Queen Mother - she might be antagonist-y rn, but she's so beautiful.
