He has always been a versatile actor, one of his earliest movies, "Antique Bakery", really showed his acting chops…
I have not seen that movie - but now that you mention, I will make it a point to look for it. I also enjoyed his role in "Dark Figure of Crime"

Not shameful at all - but he abided by the rules of his country. These rules maybe viewed strict by some, lenient by others - all different, but at least he did not shy away from it - and therefore, though he was absent for awhile - it is great to see him back now with such amazing projects.

"... did I get to know that he was caught in a scandal and I think has also served some time?"it's been sixteen…
Please see my OP with the edit - I just was not following Korean dramas and news after watching Goong sometime around 2017. In fact I feel have more access to K-news now that I am actively on MDL and other forums/news etc. That time I simply just did not know much on the news but was just watching dramas at random from the "sites-you-know-what-before-OTTs" hence I did not know that he was absent.

If you read my edit post now it will make more sense - I wanted to highlight this very point "speaks to his character that he didn't hide from or circumvent justice". Hence, as before am proud and happy of his projects, talent and look forward to more.

WHAT A COMEBACK - So Happy for JU JI HOON! 💖

I first saw him in Goong (Princess Hours) which though released in 2006, I watched it much later in 2017+. Even then though he was much younger, his acting really stood out even then. Overtime, I forgot about him - as there were not many projects of his. Only when he came back in "Along the Gods" and "Kingdom", did I get to know that he was caught in a scandal and I think has also served some time? This was really unfortunate - for what he had done, and the fact that it was a shame/wastage of his talent.

Personally - I am of the opinion that we should condemn the act, and if the person has done his/her time and is looking to turn a new leaf they should be given a chance. While we cannot look inside his heart/mind to see if he feels remorseful or has reflected on his past actions, but am hoping he has definitely reformed his ways. Therefore it makes me immensely happy - that such a talented actor as him has made a comeback and giving us such amazing works like: Blood Free, Light Shop etc.

And to see his name in such articles and comments - really makes me smile and I look forward to his works and him being a better person off-screen.

EDIT: I made this post because of his overall journey both good and bad. People in the comments are thinking that am pointing out only to his mistake and the comeback inspite of it. That is not my point if it came out that way.

Some more context: a very famous actor has been given a sentence and when I commented on that article that I hope he reflects and is able to come back soon cause he is talented - I got a lot of "comments" who wanted me to change this as Korea is unforgiving and would not allow him to come back. I cited JJH's case and still do - hence the post that I am happy for his comeback and loving each and every project that he is doing, no matter if am able to catch them all or not.

I'm just 2 episodes down and so far it is fun. I have seen the movie (parent story) earlier and loved it - but like how many things have been changed in this adaptation.

Looking forward to how the story progresses here :)

Literally had to google if Mr Park and Mal Sun (older) are married in real life or not!
The actors - Jeong Bo Seok (Mr Park) and Kim Hae Sook (Mal Soo) played lovers in Strong Girl Namsoo as well, and are so amazing here in this drama as well.

They might not be married IRL - but their chemistry is fire!🔥How are they so cute! 💖

When the show was airing, I shared the same feedback almost weekly - and was low-key bashed for it or there were many who said it gets better. I think I also continued the show having faith on these people too - I thought maybe they are right - it will get better, or I'm reading too much into it.

But at the end of it - it just did not sit right. And no fault of anyone tbh - like the cast and crew were just doing the job and I have been told even the novel is great. So I cannot really pinpoint the problem - as a whole the idea itself went against my values in dramas and otherwise of IRL - which is why it was unrelatable and therefore not enjoyable.

I think Pachinco really turned LEE MIN HO into a better actor. He is really good in the first episode.
I'm not being biased because Boys over Flowers was technically my first K-drama, but even with its flaws one thing that always stood out for me was that Lee Min Ho is a good actor but gets slightly overlooked as he stereotyped into the rich heir roles which become a focus point over his acting.

In BoF, there are 2 particular scenes where he is crying/angry/smiling through tears all at the same time and his makes his body (hands) tremble which I found very realistic and memorable. While it would not be something very great - it made me realise that he is not just a pretty face but just caught up scripts that tend to focus on the looks/suave/aura etc. than giving him chance to show real acting.

Even till date - none of his dramas are highly rated in my lists, and keeping aside the characters he has played (as it was under a particular direction where he has to be a larger-than-life hero usually) - Pachinko shines because of also the direction and script. Another good one would be Gangnam Blues - his acting shines although the movie in comparison to his dramas was a flop.

Therefore I think he was always the good/great actor he is - just also a matter of right script/direction (expectation) etc also is a contributing factor.

I am yet to start this drama - unsure, because I feel the direction would again be taken to the rom/com angle, but keen to know and see him, especially after Pachinko.

Fun Fact: Jin Young plays the grandson of Mal Sun in the original, parent movie: Miss Granny (https://kisskh.at/8614-miss-granny). And he is the love interest in this new installment.

I love how he is there in both the projects ~ characterwise, weird funny connect (I know they are separate stories just found this trivia - cute funny surprising).

Not sure if others have noticed, I did now - so couldn't resist to pen it down :)

A granny who become young again and fall in love a young man?Does it make any sense?
I am yet to start this drama - but I saw the movie and loved it. It had a bitter-sweet but realistic ending, though not sure how it will be in this drama. I'm guessing it will be in the same lines and nothing scandalous.

Regarding your comment - not sure how much weightage to give to the current ratings/comments as I find on MDL and otherwise they can be misleading. Further you can never know something unless you try. So while I can't say anything of the drama - I'll definitely recommend the movie: Miss Grany (https://kisskh.at/8614-miss-granny) in case the drama premise is making you doubtful (am assuming this given your original comment). Hope you like the film!

Having seen so many perfect ratings, your review and rating stood out on the homepage. Agree on all of it and it is very much like my own review of the show: https://kisskh.at/profile/omo-omo-omo/review/416738

This line: "Because he really needed someone to kidnap and threaten her in order to treat his wife with decent politeness" - this is where it is all wrong. I shared the same, in comments throughout the time the show aired and in my review - how can all the past neglect/indifference and cold behaviour be forgotten in just a short span of time? Even with the drama logic and no matter how swoon-worthy YYS looks, not biting the bait lol!

Even my favorite part were the second couple - Yuri and Sang U, they probably need to get a drama spin off, I was more interested in their interaction as they had the cute romance and chemistry unlike the leads.

I like how you have articulated the review - I wrote mine as soon as I finished the last episode and reading yours made me realise I missed the points for the FL (Maybe I'll revise it later). Always in search of well written reviews and articles so will save yours too

Love your title - I was also racking my brain to think of a title for my review along the lines of blocked contact, missed calls etc but did not fit - as unfortunately/fortunately I too had picked this call of the drama, when it rang.Upvoted as soon as I read it - genius!

Sorry for the long comment, but just wanted to discuss it with someone who feels the same, and yours and mine have been almost alike - so thought to let it all out XD

All four of them are my favorites - having seen their dramas (and variety shows/songs). Especially Lee Je Hoon and Cha Eun Woo - for reasons beyond their work ;)

Did not know about this show until I saw some reels pop up on Instagram and here I am. But will wait for all the episodes to finish airing before starting. Finland as a place is on my bucket list and so that will be a cherry on top!

Great review. I agree on so many things and that's why I dropped it. It was just poor script, nonsensical writing,…
Thanks Jeana for making the time read! I know it feels bad that YYS being the great actor he is was also not able to salvage this drama for me. Hoping we have better drama luck in 2025!

agree on so many points. ML is unforgivable.
Thanks for reading! Wish it could have been longer to have the character and motives better explained. I hear the novel is detailed and it makes more sense, so would give it a try once I find it but unfortunately the drama was not working for me.

Marriage Not Dating is one of my favorites. Yes, she was awesome in that as well.
Oh is it? That is wonderful ~ this is the first time I am seeing him, so good to know this. He has a bit of vibes like Sung Hoon.

So far - am liking his arc and acting as well. Overall this show is really good till now (Ep 24) and given it is my first daily drama I am loving it but keeping fingers crossed!
