I'd say, always set your expectations low. Take your time :)
Yang Xuwen is pretty tall, just as tall as Liu Yuning. Maybe just 1cm different. When he was filming Strange Tales, he had to lose weight to fit the description of a young general. Also since he did a lot of fighting scenes, he would need to move fluidly such as spinning etc. Having a bulkier body actually makes the actor unable to move easily. He did have a body double but he did most of the stunts. As for the character, Zichuan Xiu, in the anime he is described as being slim/ thin. Right after he finished filming Strange Tales, he rushed to film this drama so that's why he looks petite.
I don't like her either in the anime and she's more insufferable in the drama..lol.. oh boy.
If that what's in the novel, I wish they had changed her character in the drama. She's a brat. She's the next chieftain only because she's a Zichuan.. She inherits the throne. Typical monarchy.
I've watched four episodes so far. I love watching Yang Xu Wen portraying a cheeky type of character especially…
I also enjoy his acting skills. He switched immediately from a rigid young general in Strange Tales to a cheeky soldier in this drama. I've watched the anime version before watching Eternal Brotherhood so I'm familiar with some of the characters and the story structure. I try not to get attached to the characters I like after I finish watching a drama. It could kill my enjoyment of watching the next drama :D
Yeah he is a really good actor. He actually did a better Guo Jing than Hu Ge did (don't kill me!)
I've tried but failed multiple times lol. They have too many similarities in the structure, theme, types of characters, etc I may be wrong but I feel that most idol dramas are made for the fans of those actors, not for the sake of storytelling.

ppl are unbelievable. No justice system is perfect including in China. But when it comes to high profile cases, the police wouldn't just let someone go easily if there were evidence. It would give them a bad name outrightly. The fact that they let him go means that there's no evidence of his involvement in the incident. Yeah, it has definitely ruined his reputation. I wish ppl came to their senses.
Well this was filmed in 2021; just this in under 2 months so I think this is all that we’re getting.
Oh sorry, I meant I was looking forward to the s2 donghua. There will be Purple River s2. Season 1 ends with a cliffhanger so there will be s2. As for Eternal Brotherhood, I'm not sure if they follow the same format as Purple River the donghua. The novel itself, I believe, consists of several volumes.

I may be wrong but I suppose that could be a correct description.. imo as soon as the focus is romance and all of the actors look too beautiful then it must be an idol drama. I don't watch idol drama either. Have tried many times and always dropped it after a few episodes or just one. Last year, the only drama I managed to finish was just Faithful.

I read a little about it. I wouldn't put it as a scandal. Just a controversy. With so much information on the internet it's easy to get affected. But he won defamation lawsuit twice so it seems that he truly didn't have anything to do with that incident. I'm glad he's back too.

I'm glad he's not going down the road of traffic actor. With his looks and height, he can pull off idol dramas easily. But he's not. So, good for him. I hope he gets more challenging roles in the future.
