He is just a skinny person. He’s dealt with some bad injuries in previous dramas and took a while to recover. He always gets these kinds of comments which is kind of rude imo

its set during a specific reign after the fall of empress wu and makes references to her frequently. the characters are fictional though but the historical figures are real. as far as historically accurate, i would say it looks pretty authentic to tang dynasty aesthetic but it’s probably not on the level of longest day in chang’an which took years of research and set up to create. it’s a supernatural mystery drama with wuxia elements so you still get the magical medicine & poisons, martial artists, and fake assassination plots.

edit: the overarching political stuff is with said real figures but theyre not always present in the story.

it's the same age gap as prisoner of beauty actually but i don't see people bothered by that one at all. seems to be people only have a problem when the woman is older even though they're basically all in the same age group and friend circles.

i think because martial arts stories tend to be about the journey through life. like the MC has some sort of goal or adventure and meets friends along the way and maybe falls in love too. so i think a good well-rounded adventure/martial arts story will include all those elements.

it’s just because mdl users and intl cdrama community is biased towards romance. the most successful wuxia type or wuxia adjacent shows (nirvana in fire, joy of life, mysterious lotus casebook) focused on plot and all types of relationships rather than just romance.

honestly kind of offputting how obsessed all the commenters are with wanting romance. cheng yi has a romance drama coming soon so feel free to skip this one.

in my experience very long shows are more about the experience while watching so maybe watch a few episodes here and there when you feel like it? i just started a’d have been this type of chill approach which is making it an enjoyable experience so far.
