I just realized that Zhiguang will be on as guest role, that makes me even happier cause YESSS to seeing him in the same drama as Jiarui :)
I'm soooo looking forward to this cast already, so it feels like it will be ages till we can see the drama, but trying to enjoy the filming updates along the way XD

Just my personal opinion obv: I did finish it and it had some interesting parts but overall it fell flat for me esp considering I was looking forward to this drama ^^

I just feel like this is a non-developmental storyline for a mainlead FL, she barely changes from 1. to last epi, and the major change (from her young self living away from the family to the way we meet her) happens only as comparisons through flash-backs, but we barely get the emotional connection from her.
Everything she's going through seems pretty much compartmentalized for her (which can be understandable since she had to keep it together to keep herself save, but there's barely any room for a connection/reflection between these chara-stages even with family matters settled).

Ngl I'm simply not into centering family-dramatics/schemes (but that didn't affect my rating negatively cause it's simply personal taste) so I was looking forward to her story-line of finally venturing into business, but even that feels very uninvolved, she does it to keep herself financially independent & secure coming from an unsecure position in her family, but at the end it's pretty much just 'young noble lady lets others run the store and it doesn't matter anymore for the story overall'.
So overall I just feel her chara reduced to often being in a passive position simply reacting to what's happening around her instead of being pro-active like I hoped for from a mainchara FL and the way the story was advertised.
Some exceptions of her being more active e.g. in certain moments trying to deal with her mom's past & some of the family dramatics and while connecting with ML when he was 'her brother' but it doesn't outweigh the passive moments & later on in any romantic aspects with ML & dealing with SML she's passive again.

So while I was looking forward to this drama for the FL story, what kept me from dropping it was the ML story-line, he did get the story development....but a way better balanced ML & FL story development for me was 'Are You The One' (also with Zhang Wanyi).

This drama was a random 'let's check out more from Zhang Wanyi' decision and then I simply could NOT stop binge watching it, became one of my fav dramas overall :)

I think it came at the right time for me (had to get over my Fangs of Fortune void T_T + looking for something less dark) and right from the first few epis it has a wonderful balance of lightharted story-telling but with enough intrigue & chara depth to keep me glued to the screen XD

Disclaimer: if you don't like couples lying to each other this drama is NOT for you lol
But personally I didn't mind the deception because it never lost the spark between them and they each had their plans later on and were on equal grounds in the deception haha

I think my fav aspect of this drama is really the writing (personal taste obv): the story never fell flat in all these 40 epis for me and the charas (esp the ladies) were so well written it was honestly a joy to follow their journey (this drama gave me nearly everything I wish for in well written female charas and the young empress was an absolute gem <3)

The 2. fav thing is def the chemistry in the drama, ML/FL were such a wonderful choice, I loved both charas & actors, their banter and teamwork was just everything and had me smiling so often!
A certain royal couple stole a piece of my heart later on, Idek why I love them so much, but their slow burn was A+

the chemistry between all 3 is just TOO GOOD to ignore!
(and my heart happily queer&polyships anyway lol)

for me it really got me with ZYC & LL fighting when ZYZ was in his 'possessed by malicious energy retreat' all that neck-grabbing and stepping on ZYC lol
often i'm not drawn by 'toxic' dynamics, but suddenly jealous ex-LL trying to figure out why ZYZ was so drawn to ZYC made a lot of sense in my head lol

and then the show just kept going and the scene/conversation of LL trying to draw ZYC 'into the abyss with him' was just so well done and ZYC's refusal to validate LL's POV gave him pause and got him re-evaluating what ZYZ tried to tell him before.
(esp with LL beginning to be drawn to ZYC too, all that face/neck-touching never stopped lol)
so I'm really glad LL had a bit of a redemption arc (even if too late for some regrets and damn YL's death hurt!) and these 3 working together was really en epic scene and I agree it def felt very intimate the way it played out from mutual energy-sharing to 'def totally necessary continued neck-grabs' :')

I understood it as 'she lived 300yrs because it was a pocket of time' and is otherwise a normal human, but ok that's even a nicer thought that they might all be able to reunite ^^

1. personally I'm just going with the flow accepting him as a 'mad scientist' villain, e.g. in superhero stories their 'science' isn't exactly explainable within our reality either.
so I'm just assuming that in the same way he managed to create a poison similar to Ran Yi's dream and an artificially created demon core, he also found some way to replicate the other powers he was interested in due to his medicine background. (and he met a few of them while cooperating with LiLun so I assume that's when he got his samples)
It's the same hand-wavy~ movie science that also allowed Bai Jiu to help stop the spread of the 'plague' based on 'stop people from smelling the evil inscence' ^^

2. they mentioned it during the fight when LiLun showed up: he forced his remaining power into assuming a human form instead of cultivating for a 100 yrs to help them in the fight, the down-side is that it means he's destroying himself and dies.

3. It was said that ZYZ & ZYC are soulmates.
ZYZ & WX loved each other deeply, but ZYZ & ZYC have a connection that's just as deep (considering their fate was bound together like this + they came to such a deep understanding & affection).
I think they left it up for interpretation how we want to see their relationships, they did their best despite censorship to make each of these relationships obv important and I can live with that haha.
For me personally polyships are the best option anyway haha.
WX might not even live long enough to see ZYZ regain human form if we go with the comparable cultivation time like LiLun (100yrs, or even longer considering it's just a part of ZYZ's soul), so for me personally the goodbye with WX was final for ZYZ and he hopes she'll have a full life :')

it's fun to see others discover he's a sunshine haha.
I was already checking out their bts for MJTY back then and he was adorable then, but I think by now he overall embraces the sunshine & sometimes classclown role with confidence esp in variety shows, since he has a bit more experience by now :)
I'm unwinding from the FoF depression by catching up with Divas Hit The Road S6 with TJR & Neo and it's nice to see them enjoy the travelling & being silly with the group :)
(there's also Random Journey on the way with Cheng Xiao & TJR, so enough content to get me through my FoF withdrawal XD)

I started Story of Pearl Girl before the FoF brainrot took over and it became the drama I focused on, but I def liked what I had seen so far from TSOPG so will try to go back into that (maybe some break to get over FoF first tho XD)

Idk if it was better or worse to watch the rest of the epis in one day, I feel emotionally drained but still tearing up just thinking about some monents T_T

ufff this drama was emotionally damaging and at the same time absolutely wonderful in its love for the charas and the found family, I appreciate how much we got to love every single chara in the drama, I'm going to miss them badly!!!

I'm not ready or articulate enough to go into the details, but it will def. be a drama I'll rewatch, it has so many meaningful moments and some wonderful quotes and I'll enjoy every precious moment of their interactions :')
(big thanks to every actor & everyone involved in the production, music & cotstume & sets were amazing again, only nit-picks for me: sometimes the face-zoom was so close they were literally out of focus lol and sometimes the pretty-crying amount per episode got out of hand haha)


That Ep34Extra=Ep35 was a bit healing but also another stab into the heart with Yichen receiving Bai Jiu's box T_T
I NEEDED those last few secs cause when we saw that ZYZ soul-shred was being left behind in the contract I was ready to scream into the void lol
So I'm very grateful we saw it reach ZYC, I already was ok with the ending of ep34 and ZYZ being remembered in the rain, but ngl I'll gladly take the extra ending knowing Yichen will take good care of Yuan's soul-shred and there might be a ZYZ demon again after some decades of cultivation ^^

don't judge on ratings but try the first few epis to see if you'll like it, e.g. on youtube (even a 9 rating wouldn't mean it's automatically your personal taste)
I'd say it's a great drama if you can enjoy the flow of the show, it's a slower unfolding story & some are like chapters in a story-book giving the side-charas time to shine :)

the romance is overall very lowkey and there's some minor quiet pining from SML but not a real triangle (and the ML & SML bromance is SO GOOD plus the sismance between FL & SFL that you can just ship anyone and also in polyships haha)
very worth watching if you can go with the flow of the show: slow unfolding of the story-line, it's like a colletion of different fairy-tales esp at the beginning with side-charas getting their time to shine :)
