I hope one day Jdramas will get anime treatment, but who am I kidding, it won't happen for many different reasons. Great article, people should know that there are hardworking people putting subs for their favorite dramas, and just like what guy below me mentioned, kissasian etc. don't make subs, they don't deserve any credit at all.
I was waiting for Takahata Mitsuki to appear, I didn't know she voiced the cat, it doesn't sounds like her hahhahaha. Good movie, predictable, but heartwarming if you're an animal lover. I love the pacing too, you won't be bored.
Doesn't matter who's right or wrong what's important is knowing how we reach to that conclusion as discussions is very important, world is not black and white. I appreciate how Jdramas dive deep to tackle controversial issues. Solid acting as you would expect to a WOWOW drama. The ending song is beautiful too, not sure if Kou Shibasaki is the singer, it sounds like her though.
Brilliant movie about a strong female who will do anything for the sake of love. The setting is gang underworld but don't expect it to be purely action and violence as the movie, for the most part, is very compassionate and shows the female lead's strong resolve. It's also a social commentary on china's rapid growth development which mirrors movie's main narrative. The soundtrack is also beautiful from iconic 80's western music to beautiful chinese love songs.
Another risky but worth it attempt by Japan. I don't see this type story would get approval by producers in my country. Also Morikawa is a wonderful actress, she mastered the art of facial expression, she can do cute puppy face to evil witch face no sweat.
I knew it, I thought I've seen that akari girl somewhere. It turns out she's that actress in camelia girl. If you haven't seen that movie its one of the weirdest movies out there, it's like the director is on some weed or higher than weed when he's filming that movie (like that toad that killed mike tyson's ego). I also don't know but there's something about her acting that is captivating, maybe its not acting but her personality in real life because her character here exactly like her character in that movie.
After the so many cheesy romance live action movies I've watched these past months it's just so refreshing to watch something realistic. It's one of the most realistic portrayal of youth, teen struggles, high school romance in a movie. The plot is simple but it's like those movies where theme is more important than the plot, in fact you could view it as a short film if you want.
Two reasons why people don't like this movie, it's either slow pace bore them to death, or they are not old enough to experience love. If your idea of love the one where a girl chase the boy in the bus or a train then I don't know which fantasy world you're living in lol.
This should be good guys from the director of host, memories of murder & snowpiercer.

Futuristic Japanese metropolis? Japan in alternate universe? Whatever you think of the setting, "Swallowtail Butterfly" is highly entertaining, crazy story development and the most well received Shunji Iwai movie to date. It's impossible to put a genre in this movie and just like I said these characters went through some of the craziest development I've seen in a movie. It's like a combination of crime, violence, culture clash rockumentary, coming of age, social commentary, family drama with a bit of romance and friendship thrown in the picture. It's also fascinating how this movie predicts the future given the immigrant issues right now.
