43 episodes in and this instalment is absolute fire. I cried over the meeting with Consort Jing, was shocked at the audacity of Prince Yu, astounded with the easy, intimate way that Prince Jing and Xiaoshu strategised. to maintain this level of narrative integrity, this level of interest at this stage of the series is so impressive. many times in the last couple of years I've wished that writers would go back to this style of storytelling, this is why. it's breathtaking.
