Just pondering about neo-Confucian patriarchy and how our two leads each subvert it in their own ways. Gilchae…
Just to add additional context. Captain Gu is above average decent in offering to take her back. The women who had been taken to Qing were sent back or forced to live as outcasts bc they were considered ruined. They had to conceal the fact that they were returnees in order to be able to continue living in Joseon. There's an episode of this in Pung the Joseon Psychiatrist. Also, the KBS drama special "Return Home" deals with the cruelty of the treatment of people taken as hostages by the Ming dynasty and returning to their homeland.
Oh hooo, while some of the comments blaming Gil Chae for being a cheater.. the husband took a challenge for being…
Captain Gu is just doing what everyone did to women taken to Qing. So he is just normal and above average decent in offering to take her back. The women who had been taken to Qing were sent back or forced to live as outcasts bc they were considered ruined. They had to conceal the fact that they were returnees in order to be able to continue living in Joseon. There's an episode of this Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist. Also, the KBS rama special "Return Home" deals with the cruelty of the treatment of people taken as hostages by the Ming dynasty and returning to their homeland.
Normal adult communication: the situation in Qing has gotten too dangerous for you to stay here. Jang Hyun: I don't love you anymore so f*** off. They still can't communicate normally and without creating fundamental misunderstandings. FL and ML are just impossibly frustrating. Why the hell must they be breaking each other at every turn. Separately, they're decent people.
People are taking Strong Girl Namsoon too seriously, when it's suppose to be fun & unserious. Also it's a spin-off,…
I'm not taking it seriously. I fast forward through it to see how low they can go. The amusement is all in seeing the depth of crappiness. Strong candidate for absolutely cringiest k-drama ever made. But kids love it and it's for them.
do you know which scenes have been cut out? did they talk about them in an interview? I'd love to know more about…
People posted some of those scenes here. Especially the one that was meant to be in the first episode as an introduction to Junmo would have made me see Junmo in a different light. Apparently Euijong's and Junmo's teenage years scenes and dating scenes were deleted as well.
1) Sound of Magic (singing!, nuances!) 2) If You Wish Upon Me (major character development, he makes even the most hardened of us cry) 3) Worst of Evil 4) Healer 5) Empress Ki the rest, not very good dramas
The suspense in this one is almost unbearable. Had to take a break before the last episode. But the last episodes were really good, and the best episodes so far. More about psychology and discussing the toll of the undercover work than mindless bloothbath. I do understand that most are here bc of the bloodbath (whilst condemning cigarettes and kissing someone else than spouse lol) but. The way they finally showed how careless the chief of police was about hazards of the work for Junmo and Euijong was very satisfactory. In the end their sacrifices could easily have been in vain if Bibi had not killed off the corrupt cop. But I'm happy that the ending went this way. A plot where the spouses got in too deep and ended almost losing themselves bc they tried to protect and support each other was brilliant writing, imo. But: having watched 3 Disney+ k-dramas recently, I'm very disappointed in the way Disney producers have decided that the scenes that add depth and context to the main characters and their work need to be cut out. It's taking important depth out of k-dramas. This is why I'm giving this 8.5 instead of 9.
Unfortunately, not endorsed by the director. He leaves it open. To quote him :-When asked about the ending scene,…
For your information, this is a fictional drama. Fiction is always open to subjective interpretations. What we have watched in our lives influences our experiences. Why you need to have an interpretation pinned down tells more about you than about the drama. My interpretation is as good as yours. I just don't have the need to force it on others.
Duel is a great drama of his, totally worth watching if you like action thrillers. He has a triple role in Duel. It's kinda magical how different he makes the two brothers.
