Enjoyed the first episodes, but this is getting way too predictable. Childhood trauma, memory loss, death of mother to be unravelled. Family inheritance fight. The two brothers against each other. I hope this is not the way it will go but I fear it will. Romance between leads would really sink this and be the final nail in the coffin.

Did anyone notice those were real strangulation marks on PJH's throat and bruises in his face (not makeup) in eps 8,9? I might be wrong but. PJH dives so deep into his roles it's almost scary sometimes.

I'm a fan of Yeo Jin Goo's acting. The drama is good but gets draggy and somewhat boring in the second half.

I believe the king had cooked up a rescue plan by sending her to the border. With Myung Ha or his (the King's) bodyguard. I think there's going to be romance after he gets Hee Soo to believe he really meant to save her. But I also anticipate lots of angst ahead, as in the Crowned Clown penned by the same writer.

I thought I liked this drama but the twists are getting too depressing and too much. I'll try to stick around until the end.

Hahaha indeed in Black Money Love they just kept coming back after dying! Even to the point I wished they'd have stayed dead! I'm so disappointed if ML really died. Yes they hinted the 2FLs father ordered him killed and that the ex-cop did it.

This is much more fun than I thought based on the 1st episode. I really like the ML choice, a fresh face (had only seen him in Amanza). Honey Lee is is course a virtuoso actress. ML and FL characters really are soulmates and their shenanigans make me laugh! I don't think they'll go full romantic in the drama before the last episode. This is clearly a well planned drama and am seated for the rest of it!

zero predictability, fast paced. Psychological thrillers are not everyone's thing though, it's not for the kids.

Today 1/3 or more of new Viki offerings are BL so I think the women's rights issue is more in line with what sageuk writers and makers have originally intended to convey. Of course it's okay to watch these things from today's viewpoints too and read them as hidden BL/GL dramas. But with so many overt BL/GL dramas I prefer to read them in the historical frame.

Women dressed as men appear in so many fusion sageuks that it's nothing out of the ordinary. Sungkyungwan Scandal (2011) is one of the older ones. In none of these dramas did the actress really look like a man. I think the reason for this drama driver is not only to amuse but also to offer food for thought about the confined possibilities of women. In Joseon particularly women of higher classes had very limited possibilities to participate in the society. Sungkyungwan and scholarship was for men only, for instance. Maybe not everything has changed when it comes to women's role and tasks, even today.

Bad timing, almost simultaneously out with My Dearest. I find it unfortunate that this one has the same historical timing without being historically accurate. My Dearest was based on real historical events and this one is fiction but perhaps inspired by historical events. I don't know why we had to go to Shenyang again only to stay there for 5 minutes. It's disturbing to me to know all ways in which Captivating the King is not in line with actual history and the ways in which it is. The paranoid king, which is not King Injo, the hostage, which is not King Injo's son, the fate of the people sent to Qing, etc.
