This was an interesting film. Kudos to the writer for telling a story, that probably would've been pretty typical otherwise, in a unique way. What I love about this film is how it challenges the viewer. Well... it challenges some of us who might have a slight lack of attention to detail anyway lol. I gave this film an 8/10.
i watched it raw and i'm totally confused by the last 10 minutes... it was 2 people she dated?
Technically, she didn't. Takku did. She slept with Suzuki Yuki in September. Suzuki Tatsuya broke up with her that same year in October, but when he did, he said their relationship had been over for 2 months - 2 months ago was when he first slept with Ishimaru Miyako at that crab hotel.
Hahaha. Look at me about to give a serious comment about this film smh xD
So, why did I decide to even watch this after the first one? Honestly, boredom and curiosity. The first one wasn't amazing but it was pretty entertaining in its own right, so why not check out the sequel right? Lol. And believe it or not, this is more toned down than the first one lol. I feel that Gigolo 2 definitely had a more focused storyline than Gigolo. However, if you're gonna try to have a more serious and straightforward storyline instead of the crazy sex and humorously absurd situations, I'm gonna watch more seriously too. I liked the idea of the plot (especially when I first started watching it) but I don't think it was executed that well. The character development felt pretty forced and so did the chemistry between Fung and Monica. Because of that, I felt the ending wasn't as impactful as it could've been. Honestly, I felt that Fung had more chemistry with Isabel. Overall, I'm glad the film tried to have a more straightforward and focused plot, but this film wasn't as entertaining as the first. But, it wasn't unbearable to watch either. 4.5/10.
P.S. Did they really try to pull a Meg Ryan in 'When Harry Met Sally' restaurant scene?? hahaha
This film tells the story of 3 different generations coping with the aftermaths of an earthquake and power plant explosion that forces the people of the town, and areas around it, to evacuate. What I assume is a very sensitive topic for Japanese people, especially after the horrifying Fukushima disaster, Sion Sono does a great job depicting the emotional struggles that occur after such an horrifying event. Now that I think about it, this is my first time watching a pretty conventional dramatic film by Sion Sono. Anyway lol... Whilst the overall story is simple, yet beautiful, and the message of the film very clear, the execution manages to lack fluidity - feeling very choppy. There was also more focus on two specific couples which left me feeling not so connected to the remaining couple (though I do very much wish there was more on them). Natsuyagi Isao and Otani Naoko were definitely the stand out performances in the film. The chemistry between them was perfect as well as their portrayal of the characters. Overall, I thought the film was pretty good, but to me, not a stand out Sion Sono film. 6.5/10.
To me, this film was definitely an interesting watch. It centers around a young girl who seems to be completely detached from life and is looking for some sort of feeling within it. Looking to feel anything, even if it's pain. She is shown to be pretty self-destructive throughout the film, having a disregard for her body and relationships, delving into a world that is opposite of what she's grown up in, and never being fully fulfilled. She is definitely and interesting female character. You fight between hating her and feeling sorry for her. This film seems simple, but it definitely has some complexities to it. To be honest, it really makes me wanna read the book. 8/10.
JUST A HEADS UP: careful reading through some of the other comments below, they're filled with SPOILERS.
It's starts off pretty funny - pretty much an R-rated teen flick accompanied, of course, with a basic plot. However, the plot did become more interesting, but when it did, it was squeezed into the last 10-20 minutes of the film. Honestly, this wasn't some kind of masterpiece but I was entertained for most of it, even if it did have corny, over-the-top moments. You will laugh quite a bit throughout this film. To be honest, this film should be tagged as a comedy as well. I'd give it a 6/10.
And yes, this film does have sex in it. If you're gonna watch, please don't then come on here and complain about the sex scenes. I've seen too many pages on this site that are filled with negative comments about a film because it has sex it, despite majority of films like this being tagged as mature and obviously having sex driven plots.
Yamada Takeshi is very promising actor. Hirose Tomoki... bruh, that kissing seen... smh lol.
(I gave my more 'in depth' comment on the first film's page lol.)
One of the better BL live-actions I've seen, especially as far as technicalities - beautiful scenes and interesting edits. However, there was some long a*s pauses in some scenes which just felt awkward for me though - like a lot. A part from that, I read the manga and thought the story was more or less interesting before watching this, though I did think that the live-action adaption would easier expose the corniness of the story, but it didn't. It was actually a nice surprise to find that it didn't feel too corny. I guess I can thank the director and producers, as well as, actors for taking it pretty seriously and not just seeing it as a film for fangirls. Yamada Takeshi is definitely promising as an actor. Wouldn't mind watching him in other things. I gave both this and the second part 6/10.
I mean, you've seen one youth romance live-action based on a manga, you've seen pretty much all of them. This didn't really have anything new to keep me interested. The storyline and characters were very cliché. The actors themselves didn't add much either. However, the cinematography was pretty - still, not that groundbreaking either.
Overall this film was okay. Not a bad film, because it had it's moments, but not universally amazing either. Personally, I felt like most of this film's excitement/energy came from the amazingly beautiful cinematography and camerawork, and of course, the roaring punk rock soundtrack that played throughout. However, the development of the story itself felt lazy and forced, so I never really felt attached and fully engrossed in most of the events. Though, the ending of this film was very entertaining. I thought that Mizuno Erina and Murakami Jun were the standout performances, while Shibukawa Kiyohiko gave a pretty good comedic performance. For me, this wasn't my favourite Ayano Go performance and Sometani Shota was, well... Sometani Shota. (Interpret that however you'd like.) In the end, I gave this a 6/10 because I did enjoy the film's artistic style, but I do wish the plot and characters had smoother developments.
I really can't think of any other words to describe this film other than cute and fun. You would think that because of the cast, this would be just another over-the-top Japanese comedy, but it's not. The comedy in this film is simple and quirky. I was definitely giggling throughout. The story was funny and well executed and the acting was also very good.
For some, I can see how they'd lose interest, especially around the beginning, because this isn't exactly a fast paced film (despite it being tagged as a crime film on here and an action/adventure on Netflix), but it's definitely worth watching all the way through. I gave this film a 8/10.
This film was so sweet that my teeth hurt from watching it. Haha.
Romantic comedies can sometimes get very annoying for me because so many of them tend to follow the same romcom formula. I mean, this film definitely had it's cliché moments, but they weren't as much of a nuisance to watch thanks to the writing, especially because of the interesting characters. The execution of the story was done beautifully, each character had their own charm which kept me intrigued, and the acting as well as the chemistry between the leads were great. I just couldn't stop smiling throughout most of this film. 7/10.
P.S. Watch until the end of the credits. There's a little cute moment at the end xD
I'm really freaking confused at the end. He cried because she died and felt guilty or because he fell for her…
I agree with KellyFlower, I think guilt as well. Imagine if instead of trying to hide what was going on, he actually came forward as an adult, and actually saw her obsessive and needy behaviour as what it was, which to me seemed like some kind of mental disorder, and got her help. Things could've went a lot differently.
This film was okay for me. From reading the comments, it seems like my opinion is going to be the more unpopular one but honestly, for me, this film was pretty slow and didn't start to pick up until about an hour and a half in (keep in mind this film is 2 hours long). In my opinion, there wasn't much characterisation (just archetypes), so I didn't really get into the characters, especially Joon Gi (played by Jang Hyuk), which left me to focus more on the storyline, which honestly isn't that original (especially for someone like me who has seen a handful of similar themed films). However, I did think that Sun Woo Sun gave a stand out performance. Even as a supporting role, I felt that she brought the most life to her character as I became more intrigued in her than any other character. In regards to the storyline again, the writers did try to throw in some curve balls but, to me, they didn't have much impact because I felt that if you were really paying attention, they're quite obvious. In the end, I'd give this a 6/10.
Lead female actor was obviously cast just for her looks because her acting was lackluster. The story itself was boring and so were each of the characters. Not even the sex scenes were very interesting... 4.5/10
I enjoyed this film. The description didn't give away a lot about the story, which I really liked because the film went somewhere a little different from what I was expecting after having read the title and also after watching the first 20-30 minutes or so. Ichiko is a female character you really start to root for and even get a little inspired by despite her being a bit of a hot mess in the beginning. As the comment below says, this film is very slice of life, so it can seem slow in some parts but that's the point, it's slice of life so it gives you a realistic life even if it isn't a very exciting one at first. You should definitely continue watching all the way through. And it isn't some sugary sweet romance film (so please don't expect that) but it is a very good film. 8.5/10.
