Honestly, despite my initial misgivings, I really am liking this drama. I still prefer the 2nd couple, tbh. But the ML has grown on me, the 2nd ML is gentle and just my type, and Fu Rong has her strengths even tho I still find her reckless nature rather annoying.
Things are getting really interesting, can't wait to find out more about the Ruyi Pavilion!
All in all, I'd recommend to watch up to episode 5 and see if this drama is or isn't for you.
I don't know, I have seen 2 potential ones already and that's by end of ep 8. Yes, I did also notice that more…
Yeah, I definitely agree with you that Qi Zhu's hate isn't rational. Of course Fu Rong and her sister have nothing to do with her brother's crimes and it's his fault. I just think we can be a little more lenient with Qi Zhu --- she's just a young girl whose world changed in one night and is now all alone and frightened. She's probably depressed and pinning it all on Fu Rong to have something to hold onto. I do hope, however, she can be redeemed later if she does go down the villain route.
There is also the fact that maybe she understands her brother had to do some shady things to get where he is to support their family. Not saying it's excusable, of course, but back then the system wasn't very fair unless you were born into wealth and power.
As for the princess...I think she actually appeared earlier, around episode 5. I think childhood sweethearts does mean childhood friends but when it's between a boy and girl. Otherwise, I'm not sure lol. But now, /she's/ definitely going to be the typical annoying villainess -.-

And if you're referring to Qi Zhu as one of them...I mean, I don't find her as annoying because she has a legitimate reason for hating Fu Rong. I mean, it's expected she'll believe her brother. And at least it's not romance related lmao.
One thing I'm REALLY liking so far....there hasn't been one (1) annoying and b*tchy female character! I'm sure there'll be one, we can't be without them apparently, but it's nice to see multiple female characters with mainly positive interactions for once.
Ok, I'm on the 3rd episode and....djjfkjdkf WHY does she keep asking him for his underwear / undergarments, like???…
Fu Rong is really spoiled...like she finds her sister and the friend Qi Zhu to be "too obedient", but that's how it was back then...she's only allowed to be like this because others indulge her. Like don't get me wrong, I like female characters who are decisive and take their destiny into their own hands but...the way she goes about it is in a kind of selfish and/or idealistic way. I do hope she gets character development and becomes more thoughtful.
Ok, I'm on the 3rd episode and....djjfkjdkf WHY does she keep asking him for his underwear / undergarments, like??? It's a bit funny, but come on lmao, does she honestly think that will work?
And also, I get it's somewhat suspicious she's everywhere when Duke Su is in trouble, but who would believe she has the capability or resources to send assassins after him?! He's supposed to be smart, so it seems kind of forced he'd believe that lol. (And when he kept chasing after her until she went on that raft, I just wanted to face palm, it's too silly!)
yes, their story looks much more interesting, and the actors are playing better than ML&FL!but, unfortunately…
Nope! The guy for the 2nd couple is more of a spoiled and cocky young master. His character is actually really fun lmao, especially when compared to the serious and cold ML.
I like it so far, altho like others have said it IS a bit childish at times. I just wish...there were a bit more substance? I'm not a big fan of too serious dramas either, but idk, it's lacking a bit.
And while I do like JJY...her character Fu Rong is...I just find her character too reckless and spoiled for my liking. She keeps barging everywhere without thinking in these first two episodes...in contrast, I find her elder sister Fu Xuan to be much more likeable. And I'm already enjoying her interactions w/ the silly young master (he's so fun!) a lot more than the main couple lol.
I also wish they'd given ZZH a less stiff and cold role. He already did one in LYX, it would've been nice to seem an ML with more emotion this time.
Can you tell me where you read it with English translation? And if the translation was good?
Go on novelupdates and search I Am This Type Of Woman or something like that. And the translation is pretty good, not the best I've read but good enough. But it hasn't updated in some months, just as a warning.
Ban Hua told her parents and her brother about her dream and that their family will face ruin in five years and…
I love the novel too, Ban Hua is such a breath of fresh air. She still has that relaxed, indifferent quality to her like the author's other FLs, but I think I like her more because she's so...shameless xD
I'm just hoping they get her character right, and don't change her too much!
I'm really excited for this drama!! I've read the English translation of the novel the drama will be based on, and the FL is one of my favorite character types.
I'm only worried they will change her character tbh, since she's not the typical sweet and kind FL found in historical dramas. She's not that selfish, mind you, but I'm not sure I would call her that kind either. Or sensitive for that matter. She's vain, brash, confident to the point of being arrogant, and enjoys making other noble young ladies jealous w/ her beauty xD Tbh, she really only acts 'mean' when provoked.
I just hope they maintain her essence without making her another too sweet, naive, virtuous FL -.-
Is anyone else curious about how they'll end this? Obviously (or maybe not, who knows), Xiaoqian will go back to the modern world...but what happens to Han Shuo, then? Is she going to end up w/ the actor? That'd be weird since they're obviously not the same person...but I'm not sure how else the story would end.
This is pretty good so far!! I love Reba's character in this drama, she's ambitious and doesn't let people walk…
I really enjoyed watching Zhou Fang's 'comeback' at Luna's childish plot to humiliate her. It was classy and mature, especially fitting since Zhou Fang seems to be a woman in her late 20s or maybe even early 30s.
I even liked the fact that Zhou Fang wasn't thinking that Luna might be scheming when Luna first approached her. At first, I was like "Isn't she really gullible?" but then I realized. No, it's because Zhou Fang is a mature woman focused on her dreams. Her first thought wouldn't be that a rather famous actress would be petty enough to fight with her over a flimsy rumor lmao. (Altho....it would still be weird Luna would approach her in the 1st place w/ no motive, tbh)
I'm liking this so far! I have to admit modern romance dramas aren't really my thing, but the plot sounded interesting and Dilraba is gorgeous and a good enough actress (I haven't seen her other dramas other than her acting in TMPB). Johnny Huang is also good as the male lead, I like he isn't the typical overbearing CEO. But I do find some of his acting stiff, altho I think it might have to do w/ the character itself.
Either way, the story is moving at good pace and I like the dynamic btwn the leads. I also really like Qin Qing, altho I still skip her scenes w/ the nerdy guy - the age difference isn't my cup of tea.
The other thing I don't like is the female rival, Luna. She's really one dimensional and adds nothing to the plot, even her attempts to win Song Lin over are childish and really stupid. I would have preferred an actual rival who isn't automatically written as a love-obsessed binch.
If second MLs can have interesting personalities, then why can't the second / rival FLs?

And omg, I'm loving Fu Xuan and the Little Marquis! FX is so awesome~
