Mid episode 17 and the difference btwn Xu Jin and Xu Ping... Xu Ping orders his guard to find a scapegoat as fast possible in order to get Fu Rong out of jail, while Xu Jin is investigating to prove Fu Rong is innocent without hurting anyone.

It just makes me laugh (in FULL contempt) because I remember how Xu Ping said in the first few episodes how he used his Farmer Ji Shui identity to write about the problems the common people faced or some noble BS - but when it comes down it, he doesn't really care about them. Not only has he never done anything to help the common ppl, with the vast wealth and influence he probably has as the Emperor's doted younger brother, he keeps using common ppl for his sinister plots or killing them when it suits his needs.

In contrast, Xu Jin is so much more honorable. A lot of it may have to do with the fact that he didn't grow up in luxury and whatnot in his later years, and had to fight at the border since a young age. So it's easier for him to sincerely care for the common people and actually DO something for them rather than just write meaningless poetry (like Xu Ping lol). But at the same time, I think it also shows who he is as a person, because it would've been just as easy for him to turn out bitter and full of resentment...again, like a certain whiny 2nd ML xD

I really have grown to love Xu Jin. Prince MLs often tend to be more like Xu Ping, with no care for the people below them, so I'm glad he's consistently been shown to be a good and kind person by having him actually CHOOSE to do good things. He didn't have to go to the capital and investigate the corruption case with the army food rations, which obviously would cause him to be surrounded by enemies on all sides as well as the fact his own reputation wasn't very good to start with (making it even more difficult), but he took that heavy duty upon himself anyway!

Just ask yourself - would Xu Ping ever do that? xD

Didn't even think of that since FL took the girl's place but you are totally right! I have to say though as much…
I'm just about to watch those two episodes lol~

Like...I guess it makes sense for him to be so angry, but damn, to implicate so many people in your revenge for a death that was accidental? Idk, I just find his reasoning to be really weak.

And lmao you're right, this dude has been traveling around, wtf happened for him to be so dark and twisted?!

I don't feel much for the Emperor, his character is pretty flat imo. So if the SML would just destroy HIM solely....sure~

I wouldn't mind if only his backstory were more compelling. His reason for revenge is....just really lame and makes him come off as a child. He doesn't investigate and is killing people for a death that for now seems to be accidental. If he'd found out it wasn't it would make more sense but he hasn't even tried to found out the truth! -_-

Like for example, we have Wu Baiqi who is also very affected by his mother's death and his father's betrayal. If HE wanted to get revenge it'd make so much more sense imo.

Watching episode 15 and WHAT is wrong with Xu Ping?!?! Putting aside his stupid revenge and mommy issues....he would have an innocent girl r*ped just to bring down Prince Su?!?! I really, really hate him now.

Is it just me who couldn't care less about FL's sister's romance with the Corporal dude?
Honestly, I think it's a matter of taste, because I've seen lots of posts for and against the 2nd couple. As well as for the first couple.

That being said, while I like the 2nd couple more :p, I can see why ppl might be finding them boring. Unlike the first couple, they're still in the flirting / fighting stage. Like yeah sure, the Little Marquis had some character development, but it hasn't really translated to their relationship. They haven't had a moment where they're honest with each other or even built any trust or whatever.

On the other hand, regardless of whether the main couple's interactions are to your liking or not (i mean this generally), one can't deny their relationship has progressed a lot. Beyond flirting, they've confided in and trust each other to a certain extent, and have gone through dangerous situations where they've relied on each other. Their relationship has more substance (which makes sense since they're the main couple xD) so it isn't a surprise if you like them more or are more interested by them!

(As a 2nd couple lover tho... I do hope we get some progress for them soon too!~)

Unpopular opinion, it seems, but I can't bring myself to be interested in the 2nd couple lol. I definitely prefer…
Well, personally, I enjoy the 2nd couple so much more, but I would advise you not to worry! After all, the main couple is, well, the main couple and I'm sure we'll have even more scenes with them - especially after the cute scenes we got in today's episodes!

The romance might feel a bit slower because Xu Jin is a rather reserved person, so I think he'd have to trust and befriend Fu Rong first before falling for her. Which imo makes for a more realistic and better romance, so I'm hoping now that they've gotten closer in these last episodes, we get even more romantic scenes soon~

(I actually...I think we might get one in episode 15 tomorrow!)

I agree that, as of now, I feel like FR doesn't have a protagonist's "spark." Her personality *is* very cute,…
OMG that scene....I wanted to face palm so hard!!!

Like, even if she's an innocent young miss and stuff, she should know that without evidence, the official won't listen to her. She came off as stupid and whiny, like you said...

And yes, this show definitely has flaws, but I also enjoy watching it hahaha xD I really love the Little Marquis and his pair w/ Fu Xuan (who I wish had more of a character, she seems like she'd be a good, rational female lead for once!), and Xu Jin has grown on me a lot! His scenes with Fu Rong in the latest episodes are getting cuter so that's great too~

As for face-mask man...I won't spoil it for you, but I never ended up warming up to his character, even when his backstory is revealed. He IS super handsome imo, so he has that going for him xD

Hmm...I personally disagree. It's already 14 episodes in, that is way too much for her to not be a more fleshed out characer. But oh well, I still like her with Xu Jin and I DO find their moments cute, I just wish she was a little more intelligent tbh.

It honestly would've been really cool if, rather than simply being a troublemaker, she were also interested in politics or martial arts or something that would make her a better partner for Xu Jin. Other than just cute and cheery to his more stoic personality...

Hm...am I the only one that doesn't like Fu Rong that much? I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't HATE her, and she has her strengths. But her character feels very shallow to me, for some reason. Imo, you don't need to have a tragic or dark backstory to be interesting, but idk, her character just doesn't have that spark that a protagonist should have...

I like her older sister Fu Xuan so much more, as I've said before, but sadly we don't get many scenes that reveal more about her as a character ;-; Only when she's with the Little Marquis tbh.

(I'm writing this as I watch)Liu Ru Yi gives me the creeps and I wish she would get cut out of the whole thing…
Omg, pls don't worry about "doing it on time", we'll be waiting for when you have time to finish it. We all appreciate your efforts!!

Thank you so much for voicing my thoughts. I literally just paused it to come and complain here because I am finding…
As for the logic in the show...you're right. But tbh, since this show is pretty much supposed to be a light historical (even if they try to add some heavy themes...it still comes across as light), I just ignore it.

And since I love the Little Marquis and the 2nd couple so much I can't stop yet xD

Glad to see someone shares my thoughts, I thought I was maybe being too harsh on him hahaha. But to me....idk I don't know if I'd go so far as to say he sounds whiny, but I just can't bring myself to care about his revenge. And to drag so many innocent ppl into it....just makes me dislike him more.

This is so me, honestly! Actually, I do think the first couple's moments are getting cuter and I like Xu Jin a lot more now (Fu Rong...I feel lukewarm about her), but I just love the other couple so much more. The Little Marquis is just such a good character xD

I just hope that the story arc with the spoiled princess as the main wife is as short as possible. I can't take…
We don't know if he will yet, but in one of Fu Rong's dreams, that Xihe princess is Prince Su's main wife while Fu Rong is a concubine ;-;

What are you missing in him? Does he just not strike you as a capable guy or is revenge on his brother (and son)…
That's v true....just finished ep 14 and yikes wasn't expecting for him to go that far...but it does make him a little more interesting to me. At least, he's finally doing something xD

That's true...and maybe he's going against Prince Su to get revenge on his brother. I also hadn't thought of that last part.

Idk, like I said in my other comment, it's not so much his backstory. It's just him as a character - he just isn't funny and charismatic like the Little Marquis or earnest and endearing like Xu Jin ended up being lol. Poor him, tbh, he just ends up seeming boring compared to those two xD

IDK, I think maybe I'm going about this the wrong way. It's not so much his backstory....it's just HIM kjkdjf, I just can't bring myself to like him that much. I just find him so boring for some reason xD

I only find him very good-looking, and that's it~

Idk....I just think he feels like a really flat character. I can understand his mother's death was traumatic but getting revenge on Prince Su for something he did as a kid is....well, idk, not really something I can sympathize with as much. It would've been a lot better if he were just getting revenge on his brother, who IS at fault for hiding his mother's death from him.

And yeah, it's true that everyone else's motives aren't great either, never said they were lol.

First of all, I love everything but I can't stand awkward humor so I had to skip through that awkward match making…
Hmm, personally I don't think the master's actions were that suspicious? The two men she ordered to find out where Fu Rong had gone are the same guys Fu Rong has been using all along for her silly plans lol xD I'm sure Fu Xuan knows them because of that.

And lying to their parents is not only to prevent Fu Rong from getting into trouble, but to stop more people from knowing imo - if word got out she stayed outside overnight with a man, especially one as high profile as Prince Su, her reputation and her family's would be ruined. I'm sure if her parents would've gotten worried if they knew Fu Rong hadn't been found yet and maybe had a search party for her, making the whole thing bigger than it needs to be.

Also, that princess Xihe is so annoying -.- It really does suck we can't get clever villains. I mean, even if she has to be in love with Prince Su, can't we get a villain that actually knows how to make trouble for the female lead? Rather than act like a spoiled child no one can stand...
